Canon Lens Recommendation

So, maybe some members can help me out here. For the past year or so I've started into photography and have been shooting with a Canon G10. I love the camera, it's a great portable setup that served me well on my trip to South Korea and beyond. But, now I'm looking to get a DSLR and I need some help on lens selection.

I'm looking to buy a Canon 50D, but I'm not sure what lens I should be getting. Honestly right now I like to shoot different settings but I can't afford more than one lens at this time. So I'm looking for I guess a more capable multi use lens. The website I'm going to purchase the camera from gives me an option of body only($949), 18-200mm(1499) and 28-135mm(1129) lens. Are these worth spending money on? If so which one would you recommend? I plan on using the camera for cars...wildlife...Sorry for being so vague. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on these lens's (or any others) that would be suggested to me for a good all around starter lens.

I love my Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and leave it on my 20D most of the time. You might also want to consider the Canon 24-105 F4 lens. Check out the Canon lens reviews at this site. Canon EOS Digital Camera SLR Lens Reviews

$1129.00, is that price of the lense, or the price for both body&lense? Are the lenses "Canon"? If they are not, then I wouldn't buy them!

Good price! I'd go with the 28-135, it's suitable for general photography.

I've never used anything but the name brand lenses, but Tamron has a good reputation! At 200mm, you'll need a tripod, or brace yourself against something, to avoid blurred photos.

I've read a lot of good things about Tamron in my search. But I feel like 200mm might be too much to start out with for general shooting? Btw that Tamron package for 1800 is NOT what I'm considering if thats what you were looking at. I'm looking at the $1129 with 28-135mm lens.

The even harder decision is, either I get a camera now or an exhaust now! :-P If not exhaust will be purchased in a few months.

The 28-135 lens doesn't even say what brand it is. I would not buy either of those two lenses. Remember it is the lens that really determines the quality of your images. I would rather save money on the body and get good lenses. You will replace the camera body a few times while keeping the lenses. It is also a good idea to buy lenses that will work on a full frame camera. When I bought my 5D MKII I was able to still use the lenses I already had for my 20D because I only purchased full frame capable lenses. You will be limited in your photography if you try to use slow lenses like F6.3. Also keep in mind that small sensor camera like the 50D has a 1.6 crop factor. This means a 100mm lense records images like a 160mm lense would on a 35mm camera.
