Damn, you guys moved to 10? I saw the desktop architecture team at work had a win10 image on the deploy server. I forgot to snag a copy before they removed it.

Just the laptops. gave us more options to play with for some of our specialized programs. What a nightmare the updates have been though. They have basically neutered themselves connecting to wifi.

I am so glad we run VMware sessions for the majority of workstations.

Dude, get a simple freaking program like Paragon backup or something, it is a free download until Nov 1 and then it is only $40. For goodness sake man, work smarter not harder! :icon17:
I use it for all our loaner laptops. It is dead simple to use and would save you so much time.

This whole process getting the image to start loading takes about 10 minutes, tops.
I did not write these instructions :icon17:
( Click to show/hide )
Paragon Restore Steps

Make sure the HDD settings in the BIOS are set to IDE.
Download and extract the correct network driver for your device. Generally the folder you want(after extraction) is called Flat or Driver. Inside that is usually more folders, often named WIN732, WIN864, etc. But they are not always named that. Copy each of those folders to your flash drive for use later.

Insert Paragon Thumbdrive into PC and boot from thumbdrive.
You may see a message “The network is not present or not started.”
Select Cancel.

Insert the thumb drive with the appropriate network drivers for that machine.
At the Paragon Main Menu select Tools
Add Drivers
Browse to the Thumb Drive with drivers and browse to the folders you copied earlier and open one, try the .inf and see if you get and IP address from the Network Configuration section (below). IF it fails, select a different .inf and try again. Repeat the process until you have found the one that works and get rid of the others.
****Remember to use 32 Bit drivers****

After they are loaded, at the Main Menu select Tools
Network Configuration
Plug the Machine into the network (Must be on [redacted by madwi] Server)
Machine should obtain an IP automatically, if it does not click release and then renew.

Select the Network Drives tab
Map to a network drive
Map to [redacted by madwi]
Driver letter does not matter, defaults to Z:
Connect as user,
Enter [redacted] Credentials ( [redacted]\username then password)
OK

At the main Menu, select Backup and Recovery
Select Restore

Select the folder of the backup you want to apply
Make sure to select the top option, Basic MBR Hard Disk
(If the disk you are restoring TO is smaller than the disk you are restoring FROM, you will need to resotre one partition at a time. For example, if you are restoring to a 256GB drive and the backup says it its 456GB, it will not fit. You will have to select each individual partition you want,(usually safe to ignore the HP back up/restore partitions if they exist) Make sure you restore the bootable partition (usually Drive C: or D: ) and the Windows partition (usually C: or D: ) You will need to Restore one partition, and then go back and start the Restore steps from the main menu again to restore the next partition. When restoring a larger partition to a smaller drive, once you select the partition, it will automatically fit it to the correct size and ask you if that is what you want, though you can always adjust it, you should not encounter any major issues at that step.)

Next

Select the Appropriate Disk to restore to

Next

Select “Copy data and resize partitions proportionally”

Yes

Next

After the wizard completes, at the Main Menu select “Copying and Migration”
Select P2P Adjust OS

Next

Select the Operating System

Select Adjust hardware automatically

Next

Apply changes

Next

Finish

****If you are restoring the backup to a machine OTHER than the original machine(eg: restoring backup of Asset #18035 to #18034) Make sure the OLD machine is off the network when you apply the restore to the new machine because it will name the new machine the same as the old, for example, HP18034 becomes HP18035. Then you must rename the new machine to it’s proper name and reboot. It may be necessary to remove and rejoin the old machine to the domain to re-establish a trust relationship.****

I have it downloaded. Company won't let me use it because it "scares" the CFO. I freaking love paragon. Dead simple to use and robust. Even easier than Acronis.

This is my desk currently. Out of space and still have 4 more laptops to work on. At least give me some faking proper I.T. space for all the physical hardware.

Projects currently;

Monitor "psu" on desktop
Set up 2 kiosks with total control over browser (kioware software)
Update 17 laptops to work with new AP
Configure AP to route properly with SAP program
Track 2 RF guns sent out for repairs
Create mapped drive credentials for 3 users

It's noon on a Friday... My morale for the weekend is already shot. May be stuck here late tonight fixing stuff. Doesn't help that the I.T. Director is still here and sees my cluster mess of a desk and the issues we are facing currently.

You now know how i feel....

I am having a mini heart attack from the cables being strewn everywhere. Best i can do though since I have limited range with my extension cords and even less space to properly have stuff situated in an organized area. I mean, at least give me another damn switch so I can plug directly into our network with a temp I.P. instead of having to run 50ft patch cables to different open cubicles to plug into the outlets....

Since the IT director is there and I am sure he would love to hear a cheap, solid way of boosting productivity in the I.T. dept.... ask him to tell the cfo to piss off and buy the software and use it.
