The guy doing it left the company and they tried to make a new one and boned it up by not using Wireless MAC address as the identifier, which is our SOP. Seeing that **** rolls downhill, I had to take it.

5) drop left shoulder
why? don't do this
6) don't throw your club from loose grib
it should be a light but firm grip ... like holding the steering wheel when racing the Z :driving:
7) But pretend it's an egg
wut? :icon14: the club? It's not an egg, it's a golf club ... swing it like one
8) curse at ball repeatedly
sure ... whatever floats your boat  ... I prefer a sip of beer :tiphat:
9) Don't "pop-up" when striking the ball
excellent tip ... aka keep your head down
10) Don't forget stance
this one and your grip should be your very first thoughts when walking up to the ball... it's hard to be consistent if you don't approach the ball the exact same way every shot ... obviously slight variations in stance between clubs but generally you should be standing over the ball the same way for every shot on level ground
11) Not the car kind of stance
:icon17:
12) forward press on some clubs
no ... most people do this to account for other deficiencies in their swing; you don't want to perpetuate a bad habit
13) A or P wedge at 120 yards?
Depends on how well you hit your wedges ... probably a PW. But I know a couple guys that send their PW nearly 140 yds. I typically drop a club on closer shots to have a lighter swing and more control, so I often won't hit my PW much past 100 yds. I'd probably hit an easy 9 iron at 120 unless it were downwind or downhill.
14) screw it... 4 iron flop shot this bytch
:icon17: I recommend a 68 degree wedge for flop shots ... I dropped one in from the sand from about 20 yds out for a birdie the last round I played
15) Man i'm hungry on the 9th hole
more beer and maybe a hot dog
16) taco hell maybe?
:ugh: ... :shakes head: :icon17:
36) Pop left foot to pivot slightly
only do this if it's natural for you ... if it feels awkward it can throw off your swing
37) be sure to follow through
another big one

me too

You made me laugh ahha. Thanks. Makes me feel better I can't hit a bybrid to save my life. I'll give it a few more buckets at the range before my final verdict.

I'm curious about your reasoning on forward pressing irons though. I've always hit center of my body with all clubs. just recently started moving my irons forwards a bit after a few lessons and youtube videos. It has helped me be able to consistently strike down on the ball further instead of topping it.

My next routine is going to be working on keeping my right hand downwards a little more so I can't see my fingertips and allow my thumb to align with the shaft easier.

When you say forward press, I assume you are doing that thing where people lean their upper body over their front leg a bit just before taking their backswing. You won't see pros doing this ... they shift the ball relative to their stance. Don't mess with your swing. Try moving the ball back in your stance a bit. Hit 10 balls or so and then move the ball back just a little and repeat. See if that makes a difference.

Another thing is keep those elbows in. The left elbow flaring out can really affect ball contact.

A forward press to me is loving the shaft of an iron towards the outside of your front leg. My driver is always right in the center of my stance where as irons move towards the outside of my front leg the further I go.

Elbows are decent supposedly from my instructor. I just need to work on following through and keeping my head down haha.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm referring to. I've seen people move everything from their entire upper body to just their hands. Try keeping your hands centered on your body and not the ball. Moving the ball back in your stance will keep the head of the club behind your hands like it was before and should help keep your swing more consistent.

JARblue 08-10-2016 09:20 AM

To clarify, you are still setting up centered and then lean your hands forward, correct? Because if you are just setting up with your hands a little forward, that can be ok if it works for you. But you should be setting up like that on every shot, not just some irons. The lean that you see people do right before taking their backswing is what you want to avoid.

I set up center followed by just leaning the club. I don't shift my weight or tilt. I just move the club to an angle basically.

That's what you don't want to do. Doing that is uncentering your hands and throwing off their coordination with your body.

Instead of moving your hands forward from center, keep your hands centered on your body and move the ball back slightly. Moving the club head to follow the ball will give you that same club angle. And this way you keep your hands and body in sync the same way on every shot whether you need to move the ball back a little or not.

Hmmmm. I'll have to ask my instructor about this on my next lesson. Reading bout it online shows people are for and against it. It had just helped me stay under the ball instead of topping it. maybe i can go back to center without topping.

That's the idea. Keep that swing as consistent as possible throughout the round. Moving the ball slightly back should help with your goal to hit down on the ball as well as helping to reduce the topping.

JARblue 08-10-2016 09:50 AM

I can tell you that lean was one of the first things my dad was told to stop doing when he started lessons last year. My dad's pro was a good friend of Harvey Penick, so I definitely trust his instructions. There's some good history there.
