I prefer straight, but takes way longer and I have to be wicked careful. Safety for quicker (but still careful). And be sure to get a real badger brush. Dorco for replacement blades. |
Tout fini

https://www.amazon.com/Dorco-Prime-S...s=safety+razor This is what I own. It is amazingly balanced and dead simple to navigate https://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Long-H...s=safety+razor I use Astra blades. i believe Madwi uses Feather blades. Can't go wrong with either. I do 1 shave, flip the blade for next time and then toss. I sitll haven't run out for over a year from a $10 box. This is the brush I use. So freaking soft, the bristles don't fall out, and it mixes well with creams/oils. https://www.amazon.com/Perfecto-Shav...s=badger+brush Also, be sure to get a good shave oil and balm for afterwards. A safety razor gets about as close as possible without restructuring your face with blood. https://www.amazon.com/SECRET-SHAVIN...ords=shave+oil https://www.amazon.com/Proraso-After...rds=shave+balm And if you want to act like a real manly man, get a straight edge. Just don't go Sweeney on someone. I claim no responsibility if you cut your jugular. This is what I own. Even i struggle at times with it and get some knicks of blood. https://www.amazon.com/Parker-Profes...straight+razor |
Those tips look great, Chase

Another great starter handle is the Dr. Harris although Muerker makes some pretty nice stuff too. As Leon noted, I prefer Feather blades as I find them to cut the best for me. usually you can find a deal where they send out a bunch of different brands to test out.
Even though they are a single blade, they last a lot longer than the multibladed units, by far. One Mach10 razor would last me maybe 4 shaves before being completely destroyed, these last me a good week and a half-two weeks of comfortable shaving. Mitchell's wool fat shaving cream is my go to. Amazing stuff  badgerandblade.com |

Wanna see some painus? Looking at the old machine shop photos and came across this gem. Caught my arm on a solid carbide endmill I was mounting in a holder. Didnt have time to stop for stitches as it was a rush job :icon17: *gross pic.
