Need asap help we can't compress the springs close enough to thread the top hat back on. What are we doing wrong??

Also, the exhaust is uneven in terms of length and gaps between the bumper and top of tips. Help?!?

just re-compress the new springs a tad with the spring compressor.

thought i mentioned to u already about the exhaust tips. u have to add washers to the hanger bracket (above the exhaust tips) to lower the higher exhaust tip to even it with the lower tip.

just got back from motoring my STI, dyson'ed the 2nd floor and a quick early lunch. :p

going to go for another drive with the STI this pm before putting it away until next week.
tomorrow am going to clean the STI and then take the Z out for a spin.

kenchan 05-14-2016 12:02 PM

washing the car early am is  before the sun hits it too hard. gives me A LOT of time to dry the car so no worries with spots.

my next door neighbor thought i was crazy washing my car so early. :D

We had under half an inch of room compressing the springs to thread the top hat back on.

The exhaust is on 3 washers already and it's still uneven both height wise and length wise.

i think swift did dat on purpose as it doesn't run helper springs and not like them cheepo squishy progressive rate springs.

if axleback then most are known to be uneven (fujimura's are perfect length but required a few washers to get the height even). i thought u went with another brand that had even length tips? forgot the name.

BoneZ 05-14-2016 12:27 PM

Da fug? I come out and I'm surrounded.

We got 1 spring done so far. Woof.

We used nuts to even out the height on the exhaust. There's a good 1/8th length difference. One is flush with the bumper and the other is sucked in just a little

BoneZ 05-14-2016 01:28 PM

Getting better. At least we are in the VQ family.

lol done!no exhaust is whoa....

Leingod 05-14-2016 07:20 PM

The car is officially on swifts and the exhaust is intoxicating. Woof. What a day. Car is filthy since a damn monsoon basically came through the area. Some slight shakiness in the steering and the wheels are def unlevel, but I hope a basic alignment will take care of those issues.

I am insanly happy with the results. And the swifts take bumps even better than stock IMO.

motored my STI again this pm, had a great time. this car is dangerously easy to go fast and i can understand why it is the #1 pulled over car in the US. :rofl2:

the biggest issue is dat the addictive burst comes high so u get drawn in by the delivery of power and forget u're pulling 2nd gear hard into 3rd...and before u know it ure in expressway speeds. :icon17:

with the Z torque comes early so u can enjoy the power without going so fast.

Good job. Did you install rear camber arms and lockout bolts too? Post a vid of the exhaust when you can.

Vid tomorrow of the exhaust. And No. Everything was kept as is other than the springs. Figured that after I get an alignment, I can weigh my options for future stuff if the wheels won't get close enough back to factory.

Good luck. Mine wasn't one of the Zs that would align with factory arms/bolts. Wasted money on an alignment and more time taking the rear apart again. Oh well, good learning experience.
