Droid

Got it yesterday. Pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have an Ipod touch also. I think the user interface and speed of the droid is far superior.

Really this comes down to preference. Both have a few features the other doesn't, and this is the 1st phone to be in a "competitive" area with the iphone. My buddy just got the droid yesterday since he is with verizon. Both are great phones, but neither one is that much better than the other...

Not true, there have been a few phones that have taken on the iPhone, just none with the "exposure" in the media.

Well I have yet to see them, and where I work smart phones are king. Most chose the best phone their carrier offers. Many great phones out there, but none are an "iPhone killer".

Blackberry Bold
Blackberry Storm
HTC Touch Pro 2
HTC Hero (UK version is slightly better than the US version)
HTC HD2 (though not officially out in the US yet)

There are a few other smaller phones (from LG & Samsung) that have come out but not 100% better than an iPhone, mainly because they lack media features, but there web/email/etc. are above that of the iPhone.

does the droid have an LED for notification purposes (missed call, text, email, etc)?

Ah man, my contract with Verizon ends Monday and I've been thinking of getting the Blackberry Tour for months now. Should I get the Droid instead?

I have read and watched quite a few reviews in the past week and for an unbiased buyer each phone has its pros and cons. I couldn't care less about a "real" keyboard, but some people swear by them. Some people don't care about apps, and others would prefer a choice of 100k. As far as speed it has been a wash. It's kind of like a G37 vs a 370Z, both fine choices, but it depends a lot on personal preferences.

The Storm 2 is out, with "updated" hardware, it is an ok bump but nothing major. In my personal opinion, Android (the operating system on droid) is going to be the next big thing. Windows mobile might be able to make a comeback but it will not be until Windows Mobile 7 next summer, a little too late I think.

After messing around with the droid and the iphone I am still saying iphone is the winner. Much smoother and easier to find apps for it. Also the fact that the droid HAS to have interchangeable batteries because of its crappy battery life. I think that the iphone is still on top. IMO verizon might have the best service and that is what I have but apple still have the best phone. I do not think this is a iphone killer.,

the_student 11-08-2009 10:40 AM

Yeahhh, a topic about phones. The droid doesn't appeal to me because it isn't very good looking haha.

Anyway, theDreamer pointed out a phone that I think will be a really really really good phone, the HTC HD2...Currently out in Europe and Asia, and is scheduled for a release here sometime soon. It is a WinMo phone but HTC integrated their own personalization UI call HTC sense which is similar to what is on the droid and other new android based phones. The HD2 is also the first WinMo phone with a capacitive screen and the same 1Ghz snapdragon processor thats in the droid. Go look up the latest reviews on it. It looks really good.

Actually it lasts the same time frame a similar 3G devices (iPhone, HTC Touch Pro 2, Blackberries, etc.), but it does have interchangeable batteries which is a huge plus for on-the-go users, such as myself.

Verizon finally has a phone I actually will look at for more than a few seconds before passing over it, but one thing that will never get me to switch to Verizon (CMDA). Sorry, but until I can take your phone to any country and use it I will not buy it. On the plus side, many phone manufactures have seen this and now build dual CDMA/GSM phones, so you can get Verizon and still have a world phone.

That bold statement is been one of the major reasons WinMo phones have sucked these past fews while the iPhone/BB/etc. have started to grow. Yes, WinMo needs a major upgrade, but the hardware has not been there for them which kills them.

Dreamer, you should switch to verizon we have used almost all the providers except nextel and sprint, and verizon is simply the best. With the most coverage and the best service you can not beat them. Other companies are worried about unlimited this and cutting prices and all but there reliability and there service coverage is just terrible.
