I would if my office would pay for it, they were 95% Verizon and then few people have gone over to T-mobile just because. Only one person left on Verizon and they were going to add me because our rep was going to offer a deal, but they decided not do in the end. I am stuck on AT&T until this next summer now, which will put me right where I want to be:
~Next iPhone
~Windows Mobile 7.0 (if no delays)
~Android will be a full mobile OS with support

I have been happy on AT&T for years, anywhere I go I have had service so I am a lucky one. Though living in Houston has helped with coverage since we are large we get more money for towers/etc.

Seems like I'll be getting one on Monday. :O

Good to hear, share your thoughts when you get it.

Well I never had an iPhone before so the Droid will probably blow me away, though all the comparison/reviews I've seen have been neck to neck.

To me the biggest drawback of the Droid is the lack of pinch zoom, and the coolest thing is the free Google navigation with street view. Google says they are making it available for the iPhone as well, it depends on whether Apple lets it into the app store, and whether AT&T wants to a free service to compete with their pay service.

Because of how much I like text messaging, the droid doesn't seem like a good option looking at that keyboard. Everything else about it seems pretty nifty however.

I got the droid a while ago and I must say its far superior to any smartphone on the US market today. Yes iPhone 3GS did great for me, but since I got a hold of a droid, I have sold the iphone right away. I don't really want to bash iphone (a lot), I was a fanboy of it but that may be impossible.

Here's my experience with droid:
Exchange Support: Synced with exchange server on first try and hasn't stopped since. I get notification of new emails in 15 seconds or less. Contacts synced, calendar synced, and no matter what they tell you you are able to accept, create appointments.

GPS: Droid is an unlocked phone. Yes you can use GPS. Some have complained that they don't like the map is not aboard the device, but my guess is those are other then verizon wireless customers. I have yet to go outisde of 3G coverage and I go places.

Facebook: Syncs facebook and photos to contacts. Not a heavy user of facebook but it seems to do most of the things you can do on the web site.

Battery Life: Yes battery life is on the low end if you compare it to iphone but you have to understand a few things. Larger superior screen drains batteries. Apps on droid run at all times unless you quit them which normally you don't. That drains battery. iphone can't even run two apps at the same time much less run them in the background while the phone is on standby.

Screen: Superior to iphone. Nothing else to add, just superior.

Keyboard: Software keyboard is at least as good as iphone. You also have a physical one and some people manage to turn this choice into a negative? wtf?

Apps: Any decent app is avaiable and most are free. More free desireable apps then on iphone.

Interface: If you used the two phones and you think iphone interface is better, I can somewhat understand that. Droids interface is customizable though. If i get a call while I am typing a message, when I end the call I am right at the message screen. When I am done I just close it and I am back on the browser where I was before starting the message.

Google Voice App: Free unlimited text messaging anytime anywhere. You no longer have to get verizon's text messaging plans.

Touch Functionality: No difference except iphone has pinch functionallity all around and droid only has the hardware to do that. There are patent issues for google to be able to add it to droid. Some apps are using it though.

So do I think iphone is better at anything then droid? Yes. The iphone hype helped me sell it in less then 24 hours.

I'll take the physical keyboard over a touch keyboard any day.

Is the Droid completely open for 3rd-party aps like the iPhone?

Yes. In addition, the apps don't need to be approved by corporate unlike iPhones.

Pushing_Tin 11-20-2009 02:30 PM

I like to talk and surf the web, can't do that at all with Verizon. A major drawback IMO.

You can if you're a near wi-fi spot. Besides that's a sad argument, only kids would try such a thing. It means you're spending way too much time on internet or phone, and either way you deserve AT&T and iphone.

Also the fact that the droid HAS to have interchangeable batteries because of its crappy battery life. I think that the iphone is still on top. IMO verizon might have the best service and that is what I have but apple still have the best phone. I do not think this is a iphone killer.,

How long does a normal charge on an iphone last?

Are you normally such a total douchebag? We are discussing the pros and cons of the Droid, that is one of them, and it's a biggie for a lot of people who are one the road or travel often and need to multi-task during brief down times.

molamann 11-20-2009 09:21 PM

"Brief" down times and ATC... :D
