no i'm just curious as to which route is cheaper. doing a billiet piece or getting a CF piece like the one pictured.

i have no idea as to how much either process is on the production side. just posing the question. either way i'm very excited to see what phunk turns out.

One of my best friends is on the deepest level of product R&D and manufacturing at AMS. They are actually right down the street from me.

They have been to the moon and back to get that intake manifold into production and are still sorting out loose ends. I have thought about asking them if they would be interested in selling me the CF plenums, but I already know the answer. That said, I know exactly where to get it made, but its not cheap... and the last thing it is, is QUICK

bullitt5897 04-01-2015 10:36 AM

Billet would not be cheaper in materials but would be easier to reproduce consistently so there is a trade off... Higher material cost and machine time but lower labor.

Carbon fiber is lower material cost but higher labor...

The cost of the product will have to be determined as which is cheaper to produce and still be reliably reproduced and perform without failure. This is something Phunk will have to determine once he gets his prototypes built.

phunk 04-01-2015 10:38 AM

Making the billet plenums isnt really "expensive" for me since I can machine them in-house. But the machine that makes them is expensive and can be pumping out parts that would be worth more per hour of machine time. But thats OK, my machine isnt running 24/7 so until it is, I dont have to choose only the most profitable items to run through it.

Making a pattern/die/whatever-you-want-to-call-it for the CF wouldnt be a big deal, and if all other things work out, I have no reason to not at least get a quote on the CF plenums.

Thing is, for the GT-R its a lot easier to build a successful manifold, its a turbo engine. Everyone is going to gain big power for it, with minimal cost to low end that nobody really even cares about in a 1000+ hp car.

gotcha. thanks for the info. just saw that pic awhile back and always thought it was a nice looking piece.

yours better be at zdayz at least sir. i'm very excited to see what you come up with :tiphat:

worst case ship it to me and i'll take one there for you :bowrofl:

Reliability is the concern. Cracking or flanges busting off the plenum. If your lucky, the engine just screams to redline and bangs off the limiter rapid fire until you turn it off. Another scenario is a piece of it runs down into a cylinder and effectively destroys the engine.

Cosworth stopping making their CF plenums for their DE intake manifold....

Holy Ship, i'm getting pumped.

Wonder what the gains would be on a NA set with FI LTH's, FI CBE, Stillen G3's, and ported TB's along with a uprev tune. I know z1 kit minus the tb claims 340 ish to the wheels but lose a decent amount up-top.

We dont know yet. It will depend on a lot of factors in the design. After talking with Charles yesterday it seems like he has several versions of the design and is evaluating which one he wants to go with. Expect something that will be functional and sound in theory. As far as power is concerned depending on the design will depend on where one makes power. I have offered to help where I can since I have both an N/A Z and a Hi Horsepower Z...

I am giving my support as I know CJ-motorsports is a small company and the product has to be perfect from day one. Hopefully, it will get in the CNC machine here shortly.

derraj06 04-05-2015 10:37 PM

bullitt I talked to you at Z1 Friday. I didn't know you were following this project. Will you keep me in the loop on this? I'm staying NA for a reason but I'd love to find some extra power with this and I believe it's possible. Looking forward to seeing this in production.

bullitt5897 04-06-2015 08:10 AM

sure no problem. but check back here often for the latest updates.

Unique_Z 04-06-2015 12:03 PM

I'm holding off my intake manifold purchase till this is released :)

ANMVQ 04-06-2015 12:32 PM

When this comes out if you want to do some comparison test, Vs the M370 and a ported G37/370Z upper intake with a ported lower let me know. test these as we speak.

Great work phunk !

Elmo370z 04-06-2015 02:27 PM

love all the support

Same here. Waiting for this mani to drop before I get tuned. Fingers crossed for a good whp bump.

Nismo350z#310 04-13-2015 11:05 AM

I have been waiting for the manifold to drop as well before my retune, but the time is probably going to run out, as I have to get a tune before I can even drive it and been waiting quite some time for this now.

Do we have a new timeline for completion on this?

Charles, what will be needed for this manifold to fit the HR?

phunk 04-13-2015 11:48 AM

Later today I am starting the first batch of HR rails... just working on switching the CNC coolant (huge hassle).

I need them finished in their confirmed and final shape so I can make sure the intake manifold clears them as well.

Do not wait for this manifold to tune your car... Even when the posts start to get more exciting it could be a while before you have one in your hands... and even then it will not require substantial re-tuning, just some minor adjustments. These MAF based cars are able to detect higher airflow and dont lose their way too much when you increase it a little here or there. It will just be some tweaking required.

Elmo370z 04-13-2015 03:38 PM

Wonder if a big group buy is in the near future.

phunk 04-13-2015 03:49 PM

I will gauge interest before production just to get an idea of how many to make. Otherwise nobody has to really worry about anything until its available and ready. Wont need any deposits or anything like that.

Elmo370z 04-13-2015 04:22 PM

Sounds good my friend

ANMVQ 04-13-2015 05:28 PM

:drama:

Patiently waiting Charles. I have my compare( M370 Vs Z1) dyno on the 25th

Kingbaby 04-19-2015 12:59 PM

Progress...I like it

Elmo370z 04-30-2015 08:43 AM

Any new updates on this project?

Zero ! :( M370 actually made more everywhere ex top end where they made the same. I think I need a return for the Z1 but from a just swap and go Z1 lost.

Car was tuned with the M370.

Damn, least you made some power.

Elmo370z 05-10-2015 08:57 AM

Anymore updates about the manifold?

ANMVQ 05-10-2015 10:50 AM

Yea I installed the ported lower yesterday- Threads right below this one, Dyno is in two weeks

This week I will be updating the CAD and sending off the file to the tooling shop for the final quote and ETA on the cast portion of the manifold. He says he is ready to start working on the project with me. Then I can get back with pictures and maybe some rough price estimates.

I somehow missed this, but just read it.

So looks like us HR guys will have a bolt-on part too!!! This excites me greatly!

:excited:

Honest opinion do you think your manifold will produce decent gains for NA set up, More so than motor dyne and z1 modded manifold's?

How much gains are decent? Peak or under the curve?

Peak. With the other dynos I've seen, the other manifolds make great power under the curve but loss a lot up top.

phunk 05-16-2015 04:49 PM

I am making the runners a tad longer which should help midrange torque, which is all that can really be done for the NA... I dont know that there is much to gain on the top end in intake manifolds without spinning the engine much higher.

That's what i figured. When do you think the launch date will be?

phunk 05-16-2015 08:00 PM

I am not sure yet when they will be ready to go. Once production begins, it will go very quickly. But it hasnt begun yet.

ANMVQ 05-17-2015 07:58 AM

Charles can you please include me in on this! I can add this to the two test Ive done with the Z1 and the M370. I still have a ported M370 that I'm debating on putting on the car or selling. :/

Elmo370z 05-17-2015 10:41 AM

Yes please.

AntiVenom 05-17-2015 11:31 AM

don't know how i missed this... sub'd

Elmo370z 05-17-2015 05:42 PM

So maybe you could contact Sam from gtm and have 1slow370z prototype fitted to a car to test your manifold on a well suited na Z? This is what a community does.

Jordo! 05-17-2015 07:21 PM

I'd be onboard for a IM that made substantially more torque off the line (say, 15 - 20 wtq) even if top end was unchanged.

That might be wishful thinking tho'...
