If he doesn't come out with a mani by the time i can afford the dry sump and billet crank, ill be more than happy to ship my car to him for up to 6 months so he can build this mani and test it.

brucelidat 11-29-2015 01:06 PM

He also did a dry sump and spent a ton of money. I am just talking about most people's NA applications which is they have all the bolt-ons and would like to add it if it could add power to their set up without being part of a bunch of other stuff because most guys (enough to make this part worth making for him) aren't going to go that far and do all that because they would just boost at that point. If he's making the mani for boost applications, then that's completely different.

Elmo370z 11-29-2015 01:18 PM

i feel ya, then the part will never exist or it won't be a great design to keep cost down. Very small market of ppl wanting to stay NA and make decent power. People like me will prob end up having to get a custom one made.

brucelidat 11-29-2015 01:22 PM

Yeah, it's probably not going to happen. What would be interesting is if they did a complete intake, TB, mani combo. Someone was talking about doing it with Maxima TBs which are significantly larger. If that combo would make decent power, it might be a nice NA upgrade. I doubt many would pay 2k for a mani that mgiht give them 5-10 whp. But if they did that whole package for like 3k and it made like 20whp/trq on top of all the bolt-ons, I think there would be some interest.

Elmo370z 11-29-2015 01:31 PM

Yea, that would be a good idea. I would like to see a kit like that come out

brucelidat 11-29-2015 01:33 PM

Someone on here is doing it, but I wasn't sure if it was a custom one-off or if he was a tester for someone producing it for sale.

We are currently working on a custom billet manifold for another DE project customer. When its done we are going to start milling the full billet intake manifold for my personal HR/VHR project. It may or may not be something of interest to people here. We will test it on our NA bolt-on car but we dont have much expectations for it there... but there is only one way to find out.

We will be working on moving into our larger shop soon (working the deals right now, hoping to be settled before the new year). We will have room to store customer cars there. So fully custom manifolds or whatever other custom builds will be available (wet or dry sumps, etc).

Will you have bigger tb's? With jwt creating bigger exhaust cam and having the supporting mods to rev the motor you think this billet mani will produce, if so im. In i

Dont care what it cost.

phunk 11-30-2015 07:17 PM

With the billet manifold layout we are using on my car, we are limited on runner length due to what the CNC can get at inside the runners. Without longer runners, we wont be able to produce the mid-range gains that you saw on 1slow370z's one-off setup. But there might be some top-end gains to be found in the higher rev-range. We shall see.

The design concept that was originally posted in this thread, while it has evolved a lot since what was posted here, is still not finished and ready to try and produce. We are reverting back to a layout that is easier for us to produce without having to cast anything or out-source anything, and it will be not entirely unlike our billet DE manifolds (except we are not going to do the front throttle relocation). This is due to the time crunch as the rest of my car is progressing and it will need an intake manifold. We (the community) also has some designs coming out from at least 2 other sources, maybe more, that we would like to watch un-fold.

As for bigger throttles, for my car no, I dont need them. But with a full billet manifold, its not a big deal to make small changes like that per order. Thats what we are doing with the DE manifold we are cutting right now... he wanted it to fit a 90mm Bosch electric throttle and we customized the plenum shape and entry angle for his build.

Spooler 11-30-2015 08:11 PM

Due to runner length issues I would suggest you machine it in halves and weld it together. You can smooth the welds out on the inside. That is how my exhaust manifold was done for my Cummins 5.9. Works like a champ.

phunk 11-30-2015 08:37 PM

For this layout that wouldnt really work out... But I am not seeking long runners anyway. The only purpose for long runners is because thats probably the only way to build a manifold that will show any gains on the average all-motor VHR that doesnt spin very high.

Spooler 11-30-2015 10:23 PM

It will be interesting on what everyone comes up with. I gave up the NA build. I know I won't be happy without a pair of turbo's hanging off the motor so I may as well wait a little and do it right the first time.

is this project abandoned or paused ?

phunk 05-31-2017 01:26 PM

its back burner. We play with it every few months. I bought a 4th axis so that I can machine it more easily, whenever I eventually get around to it!

Seeing as that my own 370z just started on its build, its likeliness of seeing completion improved 10x

This has been teasing me for the last two years. Like a super hot chick letting you put the tip 1mm away from her Vag saying anytime now.

While not the same project this thread is about, we have started working on our "Drag" style front throttle manifold. Once this one is done I hope we can revisit the twin plenum design and get that into production as well.

Elmo370z 09-30-2017 07:25 PM

go to hell phunk stop teasing us lol
