Sounds good, is this with the stock cats?

Gaiiden 11-05-2009 11:25 PM

yea they only mention the coilovers in the video so are we to assume the rest is stock? I'm guessing no.

302 HP with just exhaust... hmmmm...

Nick911sc 11-09-2009 12:07 PM

Sorry if it's been discussed. But hows the clearance on this vs FI? I see in the video its pretty low, but the car has been dropped. I've been thinking about doing both possibly. But I'd appreciate if someone would fill me in on the clearance.

htt760 11-09-2009 07:28 PM

That exhaust sounds really nice....

The exhaust does hang low...? what is the clearance on the type 2 vs the type 1?

TeamARK 11-09-2009 07:30 PM

the lowest point under the car is the Flange where the muffler and mid-pipe meet. The our final production, the flange will be lifted to ensure no scraps and bottoming out although it still clears.

Nick911sc 11-09-2009 08:08 PM

So you're saying that the height in the video(not considering ride height) is lower than the final product?

You caught the part in the video where it says the car they used has been lowered with KW V3 coilovers, right? So don't get your underwear in a wad over how close the exhaust is to the ground in the video, as it's not representative of how low it'd be on a car with stock suspension height. And if perchance you've lowered your car, well . . . that has nothing to do with the design of the exhaust. Reducing ground clearance is what happens when one lowers his/her car.

Yea, I totally understand the car is lowered, hence the reduced ground clearance in the video. And I know that clearance won't be an issue when the car isn't lowered. I was just curious to ask since FI also has low ground clearance and at this point I'm trying to decide between these 2 exhausts so if I knew which one had better ground clearance would make the decision a little easier for me. Especially if I end up using coilovers.

Ah, I understand now. You know, I was comparing pics of the FI with the ARK, and I was about to say that there's no real difference between the height of the flanges of both designs. But then I went back and replayed ARK's video, and I'm not so sure I agree that the flanges are the lowest point. It might just be the camera angle, but it looks to me like the front edge of the mufflers actually sit a little lower, and that's probably due to having to make room for the extra resonator / backpressure tube up top.

Nick911sc 11-10-2009 08:52 AM

I thought the same exact thing after seeing the video. The can is definitely lower than the flange.

semtex 11-10-2009 09:07 AM

And scraping the front edge of that thing would be bad, esp. if it actually catches up on something.

idk if it's just me, but it does looks like the right can scraped a bit. And just to go a little further, if you watch the video, at :33 seconds is it just me or does it sound like somethings scraping?

I don't mean to cause any problems for ARK because I love the sound of the exhaust and I'm really considering it. These are just concerns I, and I'm sure many others have.

semtex 11-10-2009 10:06 AM

I thought that sound was the driver grinding the gear a little. But now that you mention it, I don't know if it came from the gearbox or if it was the exhaust scraping.

semtex 11-10-2009 10:30 AM

I think it's the front chin spoiler scraping. Watch the vid again, it looks like the driver's side of the chin spoiler touches the pavement a little.

Snakebite202 11-10-2009 10:37 AM

I agree with semtex - even looking at the video it's almost obvious that the chin scraped the ground.

sofa_king 11-10-2009 12:57 PM

Yes, it is the chin that is scraping in the video. As far as ground clearance while lowered, the flanges are the lowest point and the cans being the second lowest. I've had no big problems yet with the exhaust scraping on normal driveways and speed bumps. The scrape you see on the right can was from backing out of a pretty steep driveway. I've talked to Ark about this and they said once the final production comes in the flanges will sit higher than it is right now. Have anymore questions feel free to ask

TeamARK 11-11-2009 04:11 PM

I Have 2:

What will type 3 look like and will you be offereing non burnt tips as well? ( don't like burnt tips one bit...)

TeamARK 11-12-2009 05:22 PM

I cannot release the info on the type 3 just yet. As for the tip, we might even go with a different tip design.

I thought something scraped (seemed like a can) at 1:01-1:03

semtex 11-16-2009 07:13 PM

It was the front chin spoiler. Look closely, it's the driver's side that scrapes.

I've looked several times now, I think someone else should because it looks like the front isn't even close but the rear on the other hand..just after those bumps it hits..i'm pretty sure it's the exhaust.
