Mike,

Thanks again for the quick response... gotta love the forums!

This might have been asked already but I just scanned the thread.

Can you get this exhaust without those FUGLY A$$ tips? is there an option for different tips?

bluestyle55 11-19-2009 07:42 PM

I guess I just dont see the point in putting "burnt Titanium" on a car especially in an area that would never get hot enough to color burn like that...If the whole exhaust was titanium that would be one thing but even then the headers and area around the cats would be the only thing that got color burned. To me those tips are as pointless just like that burnt titanium intake.

Usually my car is grabber orange, but in the right light my car is yellow! And its not all orange now but I will post pics of that later.

I kinda like it. Not sure if this is "grabber orange" though.

I was just kidding around, I meant no disrespect to your car. I do like the burnt tips (that why I was being a smart ***). They actually match my blue Z very well. But on other colors they might not look as good.

sylenze 11-20-2009 12:04 PM

i think Lou actually mentioned that Invidia is thinking of offering SS tips... but Lou would need to confirm or update that...

AutoX Z 11-20-2009 09:27 PM

You have a PM Lou.

Its in the works, I don't have the ETA for the SS tips yet but they are planning to make them.

Also, One of my G37 customers did this to his burnt tips:

For those who LOVE the Invidia Gemini but HATE the burnt tips - MyG37

I like the single walls myself. Ti or no, doesn't really matter to me.

Lou,

Do you have a tracking number for my order yet? I want to schedule an installation date with the garage that is doing the install.

Thanks,

Tony

Did you get the box? it shows it was delivered yesterday:tup:

Back in stock guys, stainless steel tips now available

Trips 12-01-2009 09:19 PM

Hey Lou, do you have any pics of the new tips?

tcarretti 12-01-2009 10:42 PM

Lou,

Yes, the box arrived yesterday and I finally got a chance to get it opened tonight. Looks like everything is there. I'm hoping to install it on Thursday if a friend of mine is available to help.

Thanks again and I'll be sure to write up a review after it's all said and done!

tcarretti 12-09-2009 06:37 PM

FINALLY got my Invidia Gemini and Berk Test Pipes installed this afternoon.

They sound GREAT outside the car... almost stock at idle and then really come alive on throttle.

Inside the cabin the db level is greatly increased on throttle. Cruise is extremely comfortable and a normal conversation can be held with no problem.

I've only driven it back from the installer which was about 15 miles and so far no CEL. Asked them to put a little steel wool in the bung on the test pipes. Let's see how well that holds up.

All in all the system looks and sounds great. It's going to take a little getting used to since I've been driving the car for 4 1/2 months stock, but I think it was a great buy.

Haven't had a chance to open it up yet, but I'm going back out tonight so I'll see if I can feel any difference on the butt dyno.

I'm really glad there is a stainless option now as I really like the exhaust but hated the ghey rice boy tips. I had a mate lined up to polish the crap out of them.

Neon lights, stickers, titanium tips = fail

tcarretti 12-10-2009 03:14 PM

OK, put about 100 miles on the car so far with the exhaust and test pipes. Idle and cruise are great but under load this thing is LOUD!! I'm getting paranoid that I'm going to roll by a cop and get pulled over...

I think I'm going to try it with just the catback. I'm sure that it will be quite different as far as overall volume is concerned. The thing sounds great, but just a little too much for these 47 year old ears with the test pipes.

Just a note, at 93 miles after install I finally threw the CEL. That was with steel wool inserted into extended bungs on the test pipes... oh well.... live and learn.

Looks like I might have some Berk Test pipes with a couple of days use up for sale pretty soon!

bluestyle55 12-10-2009 04:46 PM

I am running the invidia gemini on my Z with stock cats and it is not loud at all. If your not giving it gas, you can't hear any exhaust noise (highway cuising has zero drone). When you get on it, it does liven up but not to a degree that I am worried about cops pulling me over. I actually finally got some videos taken and hope to have them posted tonight or tomorrow.

tcarretti 12-10-2009 09:34 PM

bluestyle...

Glad to hear that the exhaust is tamer with the stock converters. I'm going to wait until saturday to make up my mind on whether to put the stockers back on, but right now I'm leaning towards it rather than keeping the test pipes...

I haven't had any customers with the TEST PIPE and the GEMINI exhaust but the HFC/GEMINI exhaust combo is not loud at all. Maybe you should think about HFC

(INVIDIA WILL RELEASE ONE THIS WEEK) i'm still testing them to make sure there's no CEL:tup:

yes you do, me! All of my videos are with that combo.

Did I miss the pics of the SS tips? Not trying to be an pain, but some (actually, a hell of alot) of pics get blocked where I am at the moment. Sorry to be a bother.

Well I can promise you that the Gemini w/ stock cats is definitly conservative for most exhaust systems I've ever heard. Its funny becuase JPIT sold me the exhaust because he had it paired with HFC's and thought it was too loud. But given how conservative the CBE w/ stock cats sounds...I just can't imagine that the HFC would increase the sound that much that it would change to unmanagable. However...its obviously comes down to personal preference.

Soon as I get my tax return :excited: I plan on getting the berk HFC. If its too loud, I'll go back to stock cats.

With the test pipes... is it loud all the time or only loud when you get on it?

tcarretti 12-12-2009 10:12 AM

bluestyle55,

Actually, I'm starting to get used to the sound now. I almost went back to the shop today to have the stock cats put back on but I think I'm going to give it a little more time. At idle the car sounds almost stock. At cruise with little or no load it is barely louder than stock.

When you accelerate gradually it sounds FANTASTIC! When you accelerate hard it sounds booming in the cockpit, even with the windows up.

My only other concern is the CEL. It came on after about 97 miles. I had them stuff steel wool into the extended bungs but I guess it wasn't enough. I'm going to contact Uprev on monday because I'm of the understanding that when they flash the ECU during tuning, that they can disable the rear O2 sensor. If I can confirm that this will eliminate the CEL permanently AND still allow the car to pass inspection here in Texas, then I will probably keep the setup the way that it is. For the moment, we don't have a tailpipe emission test here in San Antonio.

After driving it for about 175 miles now, it seems that either I'm getting more used to the tone, or it is mellowing just a little. I can honestly say that this thing is not as loud as my Evo IX was with bigger turbo, ported manifold and full 3" exhaust. I guess I just had been away from the car scene (2 years..) that my ears had gotten a little sensitive....

So, to answer your question, NO, the car is only really loud at WOT. Normal, conservative driving yields very reasonable volume and tone with the test pipes and the catback.

Hope that helps!

Tony

Mike 12-12-2009 06:57 PM

yea, I'm getting CELs on long drives now myself. Fortunately, I have a scan gauge and just reset it.

tcarretti 12-12-2009 07:00 PM

Well, I called Uprev today and they were able to confirm that the ECU flash that they do will eliminate the rear O2 sensor reading. I just have to decide on what other mods I plan to do before having this done. The Osiris flash and dyno time are not a cheap date.

any drone at all? or around the 2K rpm range?

tcarretti 12-18-2009 04:46 PM

Actually, they sound really good even with the test pipes. There is absolutely NO rasp whatsover. There might be a little drone, but I'm comaring to what my Evo IX with full 3 inch exhaust from the manifold sounded like. This is much more refined. Granted, when you are on throttle and there is more than a little load on the engine, it sounds aggressive, but as for drone I really can't say it has much if any.

Driving 65-75 miles per hour on the highway is VERY comfortable. I was surprised...

Hope that helps,

Tony
