So I'm getting my exhaust / cats installed today, and the shop calls me. Said there's no gasket for the cats to the down pipe. So I call FI and they said to use red RTV (and that it's in the instructions-which the shop obviously hasn't read). Call the shop back and tell them to read the instructions. They call me back about 10 minutes later and say they're not comfortable just using the RTV. I did convince them that there are A LOT of these out there, and I can't ever remember reading of an issue. They're saying it will leak.

I'm asking here becasue I don't know much about all this. And it's a reputable shop - they work on mostly classics (jags and maseratis) and European exotics-my 370Z was the cheapest car in the shop - by half.

Anyone else ever run into issues with this and their installer?

Maybe I'm one of the craziest guy here! same thing happened to me. Didnt read the manual of the testpipe and installed it without a sealant or what ever. Then after review the manual picked up the phone and call tony. Then he told me do I got cel light or sound like hiss (or whatever they call to that sound) when I step on gas pedal. Then I told him nope. Everything seem to be fine. Then he said u good to go. So far put like 1000 miles on it. But no issue or any problem. That's totally no sealant just straight installed. Hope this help your doubt. Sorry for a bad English too!

I did use sealant on my test pipe install and I have almost 4k miles on mine now. No leaks no cel's ever. Tony makes a great product. Only sounds I hear is an amazing exhaust note and the regular hiss on decel which happens when you remove the cats. So don't worry.

Yeah. Sealant will be the best for now. I believe tony mentioned he working on gasket for us too. That's will be a first ever gasket for testpipe and HFC

if there is gaskets for the other pieces of the the exhaust why you need red rtv for the cats to the down pipe , why the kit didnot come with those gaskets, red rtv is ok but I will rather have gaskets and add some rtv to those gaskets.

The way I understand it is you use the red RTV for the headers to test pipe/HFC section and re use the stock gasket for the test pipe/HFC to CBE section.

Correct me if I am wrong as I am #541 and also going with HFC's which I bought off a member here and that is what he said Tony told him.

Red RTV ----> headers to HFC/TP

And the other end of HFC/TP don't worry about it the "new" gasket come with your kit. Tony's kit got all u need. And all high quality. Don't use any old gasket. Just red RTV for headers to your new HFC.

Just came back from the shop, and some comments / observations.

They said that it was probably the nicest exhaust they had ever put on. Everything fit perfect and the manager is so used to the techs complaining about aftermarket exhausts and fitment issues that he couldn't believe he didn't hear anything from them.

Their biggest issue? Getting the car on a lift. It wouldn't go on any of their lifts w/o damage (I'm assuming they're talking about crushing the pinch welds) so they ended up doing it on ramps. He said they spent an hour trying different things before they gave up and ramped it.

First impressions fro the drive home-I did the 18" resonated CBE and resonated cats:
It's loud. I know it will settle in some, but having never heard one in person I was surprised. I've got a drone right at 2100 RPM, but it seems to be going away even after 30 miles. If it doesn't, I'm screwed because it's right at cruising RPM and conversation over it would be impossible. It produces one of those vibrations you feel all through your body.
Now it sounds like a sports car though. And not cheap or ricey - just very clean. It's too cold to drive with the windows down...but I was.

When I took off my old exhaust I noticed that it appeared to have rubber dampers on it towards the front of the car on both sides of the pipes before the merge. I wonder if those are to detune drone and what if any effect they would have if installed on an aftermarket CBE.
