The only problem with a loud set-up is it makes every loser out there with a modded 20 year old civic want to race you

That's true and I'll deal with that when the time comes. I just love a loud great sounding exhaust, it's music to my ears!

[QUOTE=birdmanx1;1284660]No kidding boss, I had a bald guy in a civic SI almost clip my bumper last week. He figured that I was inviting him to a showoff contest as I drove by :shakes head: You've heard the setup already ...
Great vid, you should make another where you launch the car hard and redline. The set-up sounds great. Is yours resonated? |
:D

what I don't get is why these guys in civics or whatever even ATTEMPT to race cars that are WAYYYYY faster... a quick search says that a 2011 civic si runs a 15.3 1/4... give the benefit of a better driver and we'll even say a 14.9. These are Edmunds numbers, not mine... but Edmunds inside line also gives the 370z a 13.3... what is so hard to understand about that? Your VTEC ain't no turbo yo lol... In all seriousness... Honda makes a FANTASTIC car, but the civic in it's current form is never going to come close. I just wish people would understand what class their cars are in and if you want to race or show off... go to the track. |
how would a FI cvic do against us?

My Fiancee and I have a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 and it's quick... it's not as quick stock as the Z is stock.... it's also a 2.3 L I4 and it's got a lot of torque... with an SRI it gains about 20 whp as it is VERY restrictive stock set-up... after that though fuel pumps have to be changed. I remember and maybe this doesn't apply anymore, but it USED to be apporximately what? 10 hp for each 1/10 of a second on the 1/4? Anyway, anytime you have a car that starts off with more power, you are going to have an advantage and the Z can run low 12's without an FI set-up. My roomate has an Evo 8 with cams, intake, exhaust, etc, etc, everything but a turbo upgrade 383 whp on a Mustang dyno... I think he said he has about 15k in his car and he ran a 12 flat with a 1.8 60 ft. So with all of the NA Z mods to be able to run a low 12 to me isn't to bad IMO. By the way i'm no expert so anyone who sees if i'm wrong please do correct me. |
Just curious if a loud ricer civic rolled up next to my bone stock Z, what the chances were of them actually being faster than me, not that I am racing on the streets or anything. I am assuming the civic would need to be boosted or be pretty damn stripped down in weight to have a shot at even a stock Z?
BTW, my friend also has a heavily modded speed3 that gets 350whp which he races (not tracks, but actually races) which would obviously smoke me. |

Your friend may have 350 whp on an MS3, but the torque steer on those things is TERRIBLE... people do some things to help with it... but how much money does he have in it to make that 350? I've owned 2 Evo's and a 2010 MS3 that just had an intake and a Cobb tune on it... it was a nice quick car, but i'd take the Z over it any day... which is why I traded it with 4500 miles on it. The more you mod a car and especially a turbo car (in my experience) the more little issues you have... after a while it just gets ridiculous. My Evo X was to the poitn where it just wasn't even fun to run anymore. I found myself wanting to drive our stock MS3 more than the Evo X. I don't worry to much about my plans to add a CBE to my ART pipes, an intake and maybe some pulleys. |
Yeah, I hate loud cars that aren't fast. That is one of the reasons I am hesitant to throw CBE on my Z (not that we're not fats, just don't want to seem like an obnoxiously loud car. The others being it's still a good amount of money and I'm not sure how much of a diff it will make to me since I use it as my DD and am not tracking much (if at all, but hope to get out some time).
Just asking about the civics because they really annoy me. I've seen civic forums where kids ask for advice on making their car loud just to be loud and not anything about gains or performance. |
btw, how is the clearance with the FI exhaust compared to stock? Would I nee dot adjust my driving habits to not scrape/damage it?
