#579 arrived today right on schedule. Looking forward to a long weekend install.

Finally got my non res exhaust put on and OMG...it sounds awesome!!!

Tribalpinoy91 10-05-2012 10:55 AM

Anyone have a clip of 18 or 12 carbon resonated?

Love the craftsmanship...excellent quality....great customer service. The carbon fiber canisters r jus gorgeous. I lov how they r almost undetectable on my black Z. But its jus 2 loud for my taste...

Did you get resonators?

KingJoseph 10-05-2012 07:00 PM

I'm sorry to repeat my question, but my exhaust is just a few weeks away... does anybody have any idea how many rwhp the FI exhaust will net me over the factory Nismo exhaust? No way it's a downgrade power-wise, right? I guess it's too late anyway, but I'm surprised nobody has been able to quantify this. Come to think of it, I'm surprised I didn't do this homework beforehand.

Probably around 10-15, maybe up to 20 whp over the Nismo. (that only applies if you have a bone stock 370Z Nismo)

Honestly, it's hard to say exactly. The difference is probably very minimal. Most exhausts are going to give you a very similar power increase. You're probably talking 2 to 5 rwhp difference between the FI and the Nismo, at the most. It's most certainly not 10 to 20.

Unless you're going with forced induction at some point, your choice of exhaust should be based more on build quality and sound.

/my 2 cents

Bone stock 282 HP and 230 Tor on a Mustang dyno. 320 HP and 269 Tor.with LTH's, 12" Res, Stillen G3 cai, and a UpRev tune on a DynoJet. :D

Here's mine with 12" resonators

Here's a link to my stock to FI comparison video too.

Haha, hmm... I know you've told me that before, but hard to parse out how much is the exhaust and how much is the LTHs, G3s, and tune.

I plan to do the tune eventually, but will probably keep the stock intakes w/ post-MAF tubes and drop in filters... and already have HFCs; probably won't do the LTHs. I've heard horror stories about the install.

Then I should be happy with mine. Non-resonated carbon fiber......5 weeks out. Feels like eternity. Will get HFC once my warranty expires. To be installed where all great exhausts come from. His shop is 5 minutes from where I work. The perks of living in SoCal......aside from the great weather of course.

Sounds like you're one of the few who are not convincingly and entirely happy with it because of volume. If you have the 18" res then that's pretty much the end of the road. The compliments you get will probably change your opinion but if you decide this is not for you, you could still sell it and then get a Motordyne :)

The driver side is a PITA! Drop the exhaust from the cats back took about 45 minutes. The right side header took about 1 and a half the drop the cat and factory manifold together, and install the FI header. The left side took about 5 hrs overall. The factory heat shield is what makes it hard. Only 3 bolts hold it on. Once you get them off. You have to turn/twist the heat shield upside down to remove it. That took about 3hrs to figure it out on how to do it. Once I got that out of the way. The factory manifold and cat was out in an hour. The FI header took about an hour to install. Now if I do it again. I could cut that time by half.

Z-Girl 12 10-06-2012 04:01 AM

18" resonators...maybe it'll grow on me. But its been 3 days lol.

Do u mean the carbon fiber cans? If so then it does change the sound compared to the SS cans.

Sounds like you had a rough time lol only took me like 15 min to drop the exhaust but the cats and those damn demon bolts took me about 3 hours total to drop em. Test pipes went on easily and the cbe portion took maybe 10 min to bolt on

sparky 10-06-2012 10:13 PM

Just finished my install of an 18" CBE. Went well except the first bolt had to be the demon!
Sounds and looks great so I'm happy. My only issue is side to side alignment of the drivers can. Couldn't get it centered no matter what I tweaked. Anyone had this problem or know a fix? I've let Tony know too.

I want to add skid plates to my order since I have a nismo and 18"s
Left a voicemail on Fri - anyone have an idea what that's gonna run me $ wise?

Oh, I wasn't aware that they changed the sound. Just the weight.

Lol, exhaust usually quiets down a little bit after it breaks in.

Yea there is a sound difference between the cf and SS cans.

Z-Girl 12 10-07-2012 08:02 AM

What is everyone doing with their stock exhaust?

dmhenderson 10-07-2012 08:36 AM

I'm selling my nismo exhaust to a kid in my car club for cheap.

Z-Girl 12 10-07-2012 08:43 AM

For those whose exhaust have no value lol. Non-Nismo exhaust;)

Mine is in my garage for when I sell the Z in case someone wants it back to stock.

Thanks FPenzy...i hate storing stuff. Clutter drives me crazy but I suppose it is a good idea.

I'm keeping mine too. I'll go back to stock before I trade mine in. The FI will probably still be worth $700 or more when the time comes.

No problem I enjoy helping people on here since I know Tony is a very busy man. Plus I've had mine on my car for just over a year now so I got some experience to lend advice to people

He emailed me back on it, basically he thought it may be an installation error with the front pipes. They are marked driver and passenger and I installed them correctly. The x pipe needs to be level, which it is. Everything should line up so I will have to loosen it all and try again I guess.

Ya just talk to Tony but if it's an up or down alignment this is much easier to fix. Looking at your photo I would say your x pipe is definitely not level with the ground and that is most likely your issue.

I think I'm going to have to loosen every connection and try to realign it all again. I should be an install expert at the end of this. :ugh2:

Having said that I absolutely love the look and sound of this exhaust.
It sounds just right especially for my 7AT. Not too obnoxious but like the car should have been from the beginning.

Huan'z 10-08-2012 12:07 AM

Do the magnetic level work on this exhaust? Try to use that one.

The sound will settle down quite a bit after you put a few miles on the system (a few hundred miles), especially when warmed up. I have the 18" Resonated CBE and Resonated High Flow Cats (all FI), but still, at cold start-up it shakes the whole house and I'm sure my neighbors can hear it nice and loud... however, once the RPM's drop (30 seconds later?) the sound is still deep and rumbly but a lot less noisy. I usually do creep out of my subdivision in first gear at low rpm's to keep the noise down. Once warmed up though, the exhaust is at a perfect note: at idle, you can just hear the deep rumble, but when I put my foot in it, it sounds ."..like a Ferrarri..." (I'm told - not making this up!). So, my advice is - be patient, it'll get there. Now a small caveat: not sure about the Carbon Canisters if they are louder than the stainless, but I'm sure that there shouldn't be that much dffference. Are you still on your stock cats by the way?

dmhenderson 10-08-2012 01:32 PM

Update: The newer FI exhausts don't require skid plates at all because they sit up higher. Adding material to the bottom of the mufflers would only increase the chance of impact which would be counter-productive.

So I went out today and loosened both can pipes and started tweaking them and finally got them lined up nicely. It seems that twisting them slightly affects both side to side alignment and the levelness of both cans, probably due to all the angles in the pipe compounding. I was doing this alone and on jack stands which made things a little more challenging.
Final result = :happydance: Thanks to Tony also for email support!

Huck 10-08-2012 05:26 PM

Looks great man! Yeah that's something that a lot of people don't get quite right the first install, getting everything perfectly level and straight. I think I may do the washer mod on my cans cause the tips sit fairly close to the bumper and I would like a little bit more space in between so I can clean them on the top when I wash the car.
