Why don't more companies make exhaust tips like these. They have so much more style than cut or rolled tips, burned or not. IMO, these are the best looking in the industry, and the titanium burned finish only makes it look better. GW AAM

:iagree:

Looking to order, but curious as to when it would ship.

imwazn 05-17-2012 02:00 PM

+1 on when they will ship please

Adam@AAMComp 05-17-2012 02:40 PM

Hey guys we are looking about 4 weeks from tomorrow it would ship. As there finished it will ship. But right now if I had to put a date on it 4 to 5 weeks until you would have them. From today's date! The day I get these tips this price is going up by close to 100 bucks.

Huckleberry 05-17-2012 03:22 PM

what do you guys need? deposit, or paid in full?

Adam@AAMComp 05-17-2012 03:47 PM

Full payment. Easier top track that way.

edub370 05-17-2012 08:39 PM

got a question.... and im hoping this isnt taken the wrong way so please dont think im saying this in a smartass way, but why the $500 price for this axle back? i kno before i had an exhaust i was lookin to spend that much, but companies such as cnt and top speed grabbed my attention by offering and entire catback for that price.

legit question so please dont jump all over me for this. just seems from an outside perspective, that if u guys shot for a $350 price point u could slide right in below these existing catbacks price point and grab a lot more customers attention

Adam@AAMComp 05-18-2012 08:14 AM

You make a very valid point. I have never seen the other product or the effort put into the other product. Remember these are made here in house. These tips cost us a good chunk of money. Hand tig welding and mandrel bent piping. There 100% stainless steel also using 304ss where others are 409 stainless which is a lesser grade. Other companies will use a mild steel flange or press bent piping to help cost cost or even made in China/Taiwan. I don't see anything wrong with that from a price point. We are more about quality of quantity. They do sell very well even at the price point there at and not to mention sound really good.

edub370 05-18-2012 09:01 AM

thanks for the response. makes sense i guess. dont want to take the chance that other companies did by going too cheap and tarnishing the company's name right off the bat.
smart.

carry on!

Adam@AAMComp 05-18-2012 09:19 AM

I only know the product we have and to be honest I don't like to tarnish other companies. They do better things we can in some aspects and we can do better things in other aspects. I like to pay attention to detail personally. Form and Function. Best of both worlds.

do you happen to know how long this pre-order deal will be? I want it, but I don't have the money quite yet.

Odin 05-20-2012 10:11 AM

What is the Db level you expect out of the kit? I plan on heading up to Leguna Seca for a track day and the track has a Db limit of 91.

Pro-Order thru June 15th. It can not be had on the website right now. I will see if we can incorporate it on the site so you can place the orders there also.

We did the Db reading on Randy's car and I forgot what it was at. Now is it 91Db at idle or at WOT? I am not a road course guy so I have no idea.

That Db limit is based at the shack on the track. So basically dependent on the distance the reading is taken, throttle position, temp, etc etc. it is hard to say if it will pass or not. It bolts right up to the factory flanges, so bring both with you, if you get flagged, spend 20mins or so if that and change to factory. The bolt locations are easy to access with out needing to jack up the car.

is it possible to get a little discount if I were to pick them up from you instead of shipping?

sparky 05-23-2012 10:48 PM

Can anyone comment on how these compare sound and drone wise to say a full exhaust like
a fast intentions?

Between 3k-3500 and 4k-4500 there is some resonance but at highway speeds there is no drone. I would only get this if its temporary, like a year or 2 then getting a new full exhaust system.

Yer neighbors might not like you if you have a garage btw, on startup its growls like a tiger and then drones and resonates for a minute, almost like a big block v8 lol. :excited:

Heh, If its WOT, I bet its in the 100db range lol ;)

Thanks Initial Z. I leave at 6 in the morning and always warm up in the driveway so ya it might be an issue! :icon17:

You could pick it up but there would be tax :(. Shipping to VA there is no tax.

RandyD 05-24-2012 09:25 AM

WOT from about 4 feet measured 105db max...

they sound awesome - no real drone - but definitely a big growl when you press go.

The neighbors will just have to deal with it. It's not like you have a Harley or something! I am up and out by 0530 and my neighbors don't complain, but they haven't heard my 3" non-res TDX yet, lol!

Yeah sound levels are measured at WOT, though the distance changes based on the feeling/location etc.

How's daily driving? I'm more concerned with so cal cops. A bit louder than stock is fine, nothing too obscene.

Daily driving is fine, shifting economically and crusing its pretty normal with a little brrrrrrrrrr. Its only obscene when its above 4k really lol. :icon14:

Japanjay 05-26-2012 05:38 PM

At cruising you cant here it, but at WOT it is a beast. And yes it sounds like a built v8 when it fires up in the morning. LOL. I love the sound. Different tips then mine, but sure it sounds fairly close.

ZForce 05-28-2012 02:44 AM

Adam, could the shorties bolt up to a Nismo S-Tune CBE?

The S-Tune I believe is 3" diameter all the way back to the muffler. Need confirmation on this...

The shorties from the description on your website is "Built from 304 stainless steel, the S-Line Short Tails feature 2.5 inch pipes from the flanges to the 4 inch diameter polished stainless exhaust tips".

XelNaga 05-30-2012 03:46 PM

Do we know the value of max power and torque with this exhaust ? What is the order of the loss?

Sorry for the delayed response but this is meant to only bolt to a factory Base Model, Sport and Convertible stock exhaust. It is just a muffler delete. I am not sure if it will fit the Nismo but I do know it will look very out of place on the Nismo rear bumper.

-Adam

Also we do not have any dyno numbers for this exhaust.

shaun66 06-02-2012 03:55 PM

Quick question about the studs that connect the muffler and the mid-pipe. Are they stuck on the mid-pipe or do they come out? Does that make sense?? lol

Dre_d85 06-05-2012 03:09 PM

Do you have any sound clips of these on your shop's Z? you did mention that the sound changed from the regular tip short tails. I would like to hear it before going placing the order.

Adam@AAMComp 06-05-2012 03:21 PM

I will try and get the clip but it sounded the same once the intakes were installed on Randy's vehicle.

Perfect let me know as soon as you get that clip. I was ready to buy it, but I read your post on the sound being different.

I don't see how they would be different. Only the tips are titanium, otherwise even this tiny axleback would cost much more than 600 dollars. Should sound the same as the SS model.

As for dyno numbers, I'd guess a very modest gain of under 4 hp and similar tq gains. The muffler section may be restrictive but the best gain from these would be the weight loss or the sound. No giant, ~35 pound can in the rear. Unless you popped off the Y pipe, changed the OEM cats, or just got a full catback, not much to see in power gain.

I would love these Ti tips, very tastefully done. Unfortunately, I work on a terrible, monthly paycheck. Just spent my most recent one on some test pipes and other miscellaneous needs for living.

At 450 a pop for inhouse manufacturing and engineering, this is an absolute steal. I guess I'll have to ante up 600 when these are actually retailed. Great job. You guys at AAM are doing great work.

Huckleberry 06-06-2012 04:19 PM

Pre-ordered mine about a week or so ago, just curious if there's been any shipping updates
