I decided to try it myself and after cutting and letting the ecu relearn it feels stronger. I don't have anything to prove this except for my butt dyno....

It's pretty believable that you gained a few hp from that. The cross section where the silicon tube passes throug the uncut hole is a lot smaller than uncompressed. Did you cut the same way the Gen III's require cutting? Like do the tubes go through the same location?

Ummmm... there's nothing to CUT. The radiator supports simply unbolt. Might even be just one bolt each, its been awhile, I don't remember exactly.

Oh there is definitely stuff to cut...

Neat thing about cutting that area is that you can re-insert the plastic air ducts and return the car to near stock.

Isn't that from the stillen instructions? Don't the takedas just require the removal of the plastic duct and you insert the part from the takeda intake?

I did a before and after dyno test of the Takeda's on my car compared to K&N drop in's and there was no loss anywhere in the powerband.

And if you look at the picture you posted, you will notice that that piece (and the one on the other side) simply unbolt. As a bonus, they provide no real function and can save you maybe 1/4 pound!

You DO NOT HAVE to cut anything. That is how I did mine, individual results may vary...

I think the point of cutting when installing takedas is so that the silicon tubes have more room going through the opening and don't need to be deformed as much. Just makes the flow of air more smooth. Obviously you don't NEED to cut anything hence why they used silicon tubes in the first place.

Didn't know you could easily unbolt the whole thing, they also provide some support for the tubes so that they don't rest directly on AC lines.

Was just pointing out where one might cut if they wanted to.

Gibby1113 05-15-2013 02:53 PM

Would you recommend doing this for the takeda intakes? Any difference in power?

Same here, I just unbolted it and the silicone tube then fits perfectly

There should be no reason for the tubes to be resting on any lines... between the filter mounted to that bracket and the tubes at the engine, the intake is fairly firmly mounted.

Gonna install mine next week guys wish me luck!!

Btw has anyone heard of the Akrapovic exhaust? Looks pretty sweet

Gibby1113 05-15-2013 04:48 PM

Anyone know what they run for???? Thanks

Cool. Was just saying why and where someone may want to cut.

Can you please post the dyno test? I thought & figured the Takeda's would give you more hp than the K&N drop in's.

^ ? Someone explain this to me. I know I sound stupid but how is a cai getting the same number as some filters and tubes on a stock box
