Default Resonated Test Pipes Vs HFC

I am trying to decide between the test pipes and HFC's.. any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.. I want to get the best bang for my buck so to speak.. and I am not sure exactly what the difference is between the two..

It really depends on the sound your looking for.... Our hfc's flow almost at the same levels as a 2.5" test pipe and the benefit of a hfc is that you won't have a stinky exhaust.

i have berk test pipes. i love them. i do throw a service engine light tho... but i just bought a code reader from pepboys and clear it everytime it pops up. sound is fantastic and it really opens up response. there is a rasp from 2500-2800...really nothing major. i like it actually. and it has a nice cackle when u downshift. it smells....but oh soo good. haha

I have removed my berk test pipes for those very reasons....that 'rasp' sounded completely retarded and sounded more like a 'rattle' and if you downshifted anywhere under 3k you would get the rattle noise during a downshift and there was nothing about it that sounded refined or even MEAN....if it sounded mean I would have been OK...But when you downshift and you hear that cackle rattle - the car sounded like **** to be frank.

With the resonated test pipes I basically get the same exhaust note, with 70-90% less rasp/cackle/rattle, whatever...

EDIT: I must say tho, I thru a CEL with the berk test pipes after about 100 miles and then after another 100 miles the CEL went off and NEVER returned. I had driven it for ~2500 miles after that! I thought that was important to share!

resonated...mmmm... did u ever do a dyno of just the test pipes? i havent and i know ppl ask. how does a resonator work? does it restrict any airflow? maybe i might switch if i do the catback, becuase that would make the rasp more pronounced

I wouldnt waste money on HFC...... The reason you are replacing the stock cats is for more flow, so why not go with non-resonated Test Pipes..

I know I loved My APS 2.5" I had on My 06 Z Coupled with Megan Racing Headers and Borla TD Exhaust it sounded GREAT!

And the answer is no, the resonated test pipes do not impeed airflow. At least not the GTM's. They're straight pass thru like a true test pipe except it has that enlarged area to resonate the sound thru a grid inside the pipe wall.

Ok so here is another question... I am probably going to go w/ the test pipes... now.. Is it possible to attach an X pipe to the stock exhaust? if so does anyone sell one.... and how much of a difference in gain would there be between just replacing the stock y pipe with an xpipe and getting a whole new exhaust? I have heard that the vast majority of the restriction in our exhaust is between the y pipe and the cats.. not necessarily the rest of the exhaust i.e. the muffler

It is possibly and will probably sound decent/very good. If you wish to save money thats not a bad idea...but i'm also not sure the x pipe is the complete solution because besides the downpipes I think the front y-pipe is the majority of the problem. But I supposed you would have to re-do some of that to fit a xpipe anyway...go for it!!

ok.. forgive me.. i have had a few cars.. but tbh.. i just dropped whatever money i needed to off at the shop i used to order my stuff through and they would do it for me (lazy I know).. i thought if i got the test pipes they would replace the down pipes? that is why i was leaning toward test pipes and an x pipe for the time being...

Thnk about the legal issues too. NC is getting a lot tougher on emissions and testing...
