Just to make sure I have this right, you're still using the stock 370 Throttle Bodies, and the intakes for a 370, no matter the brand, will work with this? Or will modifications to the upper intake pipes be needed?
:yum: |
Just noticing the missing strut bar... is this a lost cause or can it be re-mounted?
|
Looks great! Stoked to see the power gains
|
the intake pipes from Stillen had to be cut by 8cm on the passenger side and 6cm on the driver side. I have not yet verified fitment with the completly stock intake system.
For the strut bar this can NOT be simply re-installed but as I track my car very often I will modify it so there will be a strut bar again. In front of the intake plenum you have some room where a strut bar can be placed, just needs a bit welding ;) yes, stock throttle bodies have been used they fit the GTR manifold no problem, just need the gaskets from R35 - even the bolts are the same. So does the 370Z intake temp sensor, even the cable connector can be used without soldering longer wires, you just have open the wire channel behind the engine and pull out the cable a bit so it reaches the sensor facing in the opposit direction. only thing I did was to eliminate the TB water cooling so the engine bay looks cleaner and less pipes are around. oh man...
you wouldn't happen to have a Z33 laying around to test fit and dyno on would ya? |
Dyynooooooos :D
|
not to derail this thread but from eyeballing it should fit a Z33 easily...
that's from using the oil filler cap as a reference? http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...psedd21ce4.png |
Yeah get rid of the strut brace and it looks like it should fit if you wrangle your intakes.
|
I'm pretty sure it will fit the VQ35HR - if the lower intake manifold and the upper intake plenum is exchangeable between Z33 and Z34 it should be a no brainer !
|
can you take a pic without the cover on? thanks
|
When will you be putting it on the dyno.
|
Very nice especially how you cleared the oil cap. Did it change the engine sound in any way? That's pretty cool how you were able to keep the stock fuel rail.
Assuming my engine can stay in one piece after a tune to about 500 whp, I wouldn't mind making the switch. However, if I do that I'd love to get new spark plugs, injectors, EBC, 3" DP and exhaust, and a tune to at least 500 whp while keeping the block stock. What's holding me back is no more work on this car for at least another year due to priorities. |
Looking good -- looking forward to dynos
Also curious to see what will be done for the strut brace... |
thank you guys for the positive feedback ! Tomorrow I will try to do a longer test drive for about 120km (~75miles) so the ECU is able to regain its learn tables.
After that I unfortunately have to make a break with this project for about a week as I'm flying to Egypt (diving the red sea) but I promise to put it on the dyno straight after my return in a good week. Please bear with me, the results are near and I'm at least as curious to see dyno numbers as you are. And promised I will post the outcome regardless of what it will be. If I keep stock power or even loose power (with NA) I probably have at least a (very expensive) engine bay styling upgrade and can claim to have the only 370Z with a GT-R manifold installed and actually working in the world :happydance: But the hope is still alive and chances are not too bad it could work out - fingers crossed ! Just for your reference my last dyno results before the manifold project were 311HP to the wheels and 388NM / 286lbf/ft ! Modifications: 2.5" dual exhaust system, 300cpi race catalysts, stillen ss exhaust headers, stillen gen3 intake, NST pulleys, no tune ! Chris |
Have a good time diving. Thanks for the updates.
|
Late to the party as usual. This is me right now:
|
Be sure to drive it HARD on your drive. Get yourself to the nearest Autobahn, in other words.
WOT through to redline in as many gears as you can stomach... let it cool down a little, (while driving) then repeat. Do that a half dozen times and park it til it cools back down to "cold". Then start it up and do it again. By then you'll be more or less fully learned. Supposedly helps if you clear learned data first (either with Osiris or by unplugging the battery for a while). |
regardless of gains that thing is sexy as hell.

How am I just seeing this?! I want for my G...

Good progress! Really looking forward to results!
|
Oh SNAP SUN! That is awesome. Congratulations on pioneering some hotness!
|
Chris any updates on the dyno session #s and/or any changes?
|
I think the guy said he was going out of the country for a week and wouldnt be able to have full test and dyno until he got back.
|
i hope that it makes power.
im very interested in it Z |

Kinetix made one and it was sold for a very short time. They have redesigned it, but not released anything. I am looking to replace the plastic plenum. I currently have the M370 from Motordyne. It is nice, but doesn't fit my needs. How long will a plastic plenum hold up to 8-12 PSI (or more for that matter). This is why this man's work is so important with producing a lower manifold adapter to fit the GT-R manifold to the Z/G.
This may be a bling item for most, but it is damn near a necessity for me. And it seems this will be available before Kinetix gets it together again.............take it for what it's worth. |
Do we know if the plastic plenum failing is really an issue? Plenty of OEM turbo vehicles have used them without issue. Granted, they were originally designed for boost, but it may be a little premature to say plenum failure is something to worry about. That being said, I can't wait for someone to slap this manifold on a turbo car and see what it can do.
|
I highly doubt the plastic plenum will fail. Even 20 PSI is not that much pressure for the plastic and all OEM parts are designed with a large safety factor.
Staying on topic however; I am really interested to see what this does in the performance department as it is already a huge improvement in the looks department. |
I want to see it on a boosted Z with a built motor, any takers??
|
Maybe Mr Squeeze would give it a go. I think he pushes 19 psi.

The kinetix was just pretty if I remember correctly they didn't do any real flow or dyno testing. At least not before last years Zdayz when I talked to them about it, as they had their test z out there with it and it was SC'ed I think. One way or the other the car looked like sh1t with a ton of stick on body crap but the intake sure was pretty.

I'm looking for something that shows the separate runners just like the GTR or the kinetix manifold purely for the purpose direct port nitrous......hehe
|
I understand that the stock or even M370 can probably withstand boost, but I am looking to make the switch just for piece of mind. I really don't want to be that guy that has the one that fails. I don't believe in luck, but I musty have a black cloud or something, lol.
Back on topic...........I am really looking to make a move on this if homeboy makes it available to us. If not, back to making a move with the Kinetix folks. |
I'm really interested to see what the balancing tube does for our cars...for the 300ZX guys, they experimented with tuning the balance tube, and it changed the power curve characteristics and whatnot. I know the HKS supercharger intake manifold has a balance tube as well.
I think that combined with the smooth, individual runners will net some serious gains, especially on a tuned, boosted 370z. I forsee it as a higher displacement version of the VG motor, in a sense. |
hey folks, back from Egypt and already made some extensive daily driving with the new setup ! So far absolutely no problems:
- cold/warm startup - idle - throttle response - no CEL codes - fuel economy - WOT from 2nd to 6th gear to sum it up the car acts, reacts and sounds completely as stock. I cannot say yet if there is more power or torque even though it really feels like it goes through the gears faster as before but that could just be my imagination ;) the dyno* is booked for tomorrow and then there will be proof - stay tuned ! Chris * same dyno I made two "before" runs with 6 weeks between each run reaching exactly same curves up to 1HP accuracy ! |
Now is a good time to start placing bets, Chris says he is gonna give out a free kit to whoever nails the result. Right Chris?
