Default '12 370z MXP catback - mini review - Pictures and Sound Clip included

I sold my 2008 Sti two weeks ago and I have had my 370z less than one week and currently have less than 500 miles. I just did my first mod (not including dvd player and polk audio speakers) today!

It was a hard decision because a lot of the mxp exhaust videos didn't sound as good, but it was in stock today and I got hooked up. Some of the exhausts that I was considering:

HKS - Too expensive, but I love HKS. I had the Legamax Premium on my GRB
Greddy - couldn't get it today anywhere and it is a little more than MXP
Ark - Pre order for the Type2 V2, very good price from FBNissan (jomer)
MXP - prefer the welds and muffler layout on this over the ARK.
Top Speed - cheap, but wanted burnt tips

I have been researching and listening to sound clips for what seems like eternity, but I finally settled with MXP and I love the sound!

I installed the exhaust by myself tonight at home in my garage. Very straight forward install and I did not have any issues with the stock nuts and did not need a breaker bar. I love that the MXP included extra gaskets and bolts for those that may have HFC's or test pipes. I'm still on stock cats so I have two gaskets and 8 bolts/nuts left over. Total number of gaskets included were 8 and 16 sets of bolts/nuts.

I didn't like the video clips that sounded like there were slight popping or backfire, but mine does not pop or backfire at all. This exhaust sounds deep and smooth. I don't consider this exhaust loud and it does not drone. I'll try and get sound clips tomorrow since I'm doing an Autox event (but if it rains It'll sound muffled with GoPro waterproof case on). I'm starting to believe that video clips don't do exhaust sounds any justice.

One last thing that concerned me was the driver's side tips had bolts that were not parallel with the ground from pics that I saw. It annoyed me that the passenger side tips were horizontal and the driver's side wasn't. Well, my exhaust was fine and both driver's and passenger side was pretty horizontal. I didn't expect this, but it was a pleasant surprise.

If any one is thinking about MXP, I highly recommend it...I love the sound and my wife thinks it sounds "high end".

*Edit Video is edited and being uploaded. Will link it asap. Here are pictures from this morning, please excuse cell phone camera quality

Just for fun @ Autoclub Speedway where Autox was held

My friend's ARK same day/place just for comparison. ARK is a bit louder and deeper I think

I'm really considering this exhaust too when time comes. Besides the noise factor did you notice a performance difference? Also, where did you pick it up (Amplified)? I've yet to hear this in-person.

Cheers, J

I too love the sound of the MXP exhaust, the only thing that stopped me from getting one is that it is a bit too loud when paired with HFCs or test pipes. Congrats on the exhaust!

I did notice something, but I honestly do not have a very sensitive butt dyno, so I can't tell. Also, I barely had 500 miles today so I didn't drive it hard or that much before the install of the exhaust. Most exhausts use 60mm piping so I would assume mxp isn't too bad compared with the other brands (hp wise).

I got hooked up from a distributor, but Amplified's price is decent and I believe they have one in stock right now.

My video will be up soon, I put some time/effort in recording today and I compiled the best and most accurate sound to the best of my ability. Videos still don't capture the sound the way it is in person (in my opinion). But my video is fairly close to what it sounds like in person.

I'm surprised the mxp with HFC is that loud. I would assume HFC's make all catbacks louder regardless of brand. What exhaust did you end up getting with your HFC's and does that brand start off quieter than mxp with stock cats?

Thanks!

Nice...I'm sure I've probably already driven by you and not know

I don't plan to modify the Z too much, so it'll be hard to spot me in the neighborhood...every car I've owned, I'd modded too much and I'm really enjoying the comfortable ride...sign of aging probably

Video is up!
