Full Stillen Bolt-On Setup - Videos!
Thought I'd go out for a cruise and get some clips of what the full Stillen Setup sounds like.
First off - Just revving around, several different angles including under the car and from the sides. [youtubehq]6aIiNLfUnos[/youtubehq] Second - 8 Minutes of in-car WOT and Synchrorevmatching :) [YOUTUBEHQ]BdVV46pOJd0[/YOUTUBEHQ] On a sidenote, you will see that even after a good 25 minutes or so of beating on the car in 82 degree humid weather, I was not able to get the temperature over 220 :) |
Very nice!
I hear it in yours too (you know what I mean ;)) just not as loud.... |
Yup, but you will see when the other video is up that under load you can only hear it at higher RPMs..
|
That sounds damn nice.
Too bad that rattle is still there. |
dude...u got a billion speed bumps! say goodbye to coilovers! or goodbye to that front lip lol. cool vid. ur car sounds great. and those oil temps didnt go high at all. mine would have been to 260-270 easy. watch out for hos in black BMWs lol...oh snap. i know where u are. i was just driving there last weekend. man u gotta check out south beach polo. that was insane. anyway. take it easy man.
|
man that was a lot of speed bumps :D
bt car sounds awesome cant wait to hear mine in person defenitly need that oil cooler |

Nice videos, sounds great. What type of camera mount did you use? Assuming you secured the mount on the rear brace aimed between the seats. Yes? |
it sounds like your exhaust is still rattling on the crossmember, doesnt sound like rasp to me (especially from the underneath video). also, ill bet the headers will increase the rasp (did on last car). i really hope my stillen SBE and HFC isnt that raspy? sounds even raspier inside (or is it a rattle?) anyways, nice job making the video, although it makes me worry about the rasp even more....

I personally love the metallic rasp aspect of the exhaust at high RPM's, makes it sound so mechanical and raw. I liken the rasp to exposed welds on a race car. |

Gripper 3025 - The Filmtools 6" Suction / Vacuum Cup Camera Mount Works amazing....no movement at all on the track, easy to put on and take off. The only problem you may have is that they may not let you run it with certain clubs. I ran it in PBOC with no problems though and they are about as uptight as it gets.. |
LOL, RCZ you've replaced the video of the driver in Japan with Amuse exhaust! Too bad that video was pulled.
|
What do you mean?

I can only imagine what this setup will sound like with resonated test pipes.

You can put it anywhere theres a smooth surface. I have put it on the outside of my door at 90+mph...on the hood...on the windshield...on the back window at any height.
here's one where I put it lower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADJ4H...e=channel_page I know I wasnt being smooth, I wasnt trying to set any records and was unsettling the car on purpose a lot to see how it handled it. |

I spotted like 50 black BMW 328/335's in the video, but that's miami for you lol... Nice vid!
|
Yeah Miami is rediculous...
|
Which camera are you using anyway?
God those eyes are so dreamy... |
Update from the track, we are on lunch break. Oil temps maxing out around 260 which is ok, but not great. Tires holding up.
Front rotors are crap, brakes are overheating if I don't baby them. Front rotors are scored, will be getting a new set asap. Power is good. Steering is good I guess this is why they call it testing. At least temps are manageable... Also we need To discuss the fuel gauge. It read more than a quarter tank so I figured I'd be ok for a ses, ran out of fuel 3 laps in. It is not accurate, fill up all the way and be safe. I have pics to show u all what's left of the front rotors and pads. I guess ill continue to baby the brakes for the rest of the day and hope ithey don't go through the floor like they already Did twice. If I brake into a corner aggressively, they are done for the rest of the session. Next mods: rotors, pads, lines, good fluid, coilovers, sways, dual oil cooler setup, wheels and tires. Moral of the story, oil and brakes are most important first mods if your gonna track it. Otherwise, this car effin rocks. Feels fantastic. |
You mean...oil cooler and brakes?
|
Sounds like i'll have to get something a hair bigger than the Stillen oil cooler.. hitting 260 at the track still =(

It really is bothersome to know that Stillen's oil cooler kit isn't really able to keep the temps down enough. I feel they really need to start offering a bigger core. I remember talking to them and they felt that the kit they offer is all the "normal" person needs, but from your experience, I don't think so. I might start looking at some of the JDM oil coolers as another option. I remember seeing the Central 20 cooler as a fairly large unit(although very pricey). |

Just a FYI. That setup isn't designed to attach to glass but only metal body parts of the car. I have seen many including ours that fell off the cars window. Something about glass it doesn't attach real well. Almost destroyed the camera when it fell off at the track 70 mph. |
I agree totally on the breaks. I completely thrashed my tires yesterday at thunderbolt. A dual core oil cooler would be cool but we need to look into a thermostat.
I'm trying to research wheels for the track but the car is so new it's tough to find. I want to go much wider in the back and get slicks. Have you found any proper wheels yet? |

Nismoz, you're wrong man. Those suction cups are actually normally used to mov panes of glass at an industrial level.
Its to grab the sheets and move them, they are designed for it. Today I put the mount on in the morning and it hadn't moved at all or lost any suction whatsoever by 2 pm. Ok I got another session in after I gave u guys the update earlier and I changed my mind a bit. I stopped pushing the brakes as hard and it held throughout the session. Of course I didn't go as fast but it was great and the pedal held for longer. Overall I am happy with the car, it has plenty of power. Ill write more when I get home |
So yeah that last session I went out first in a 997 GT3RS on Cup tires. What an amazing piece of machinery. Unreal. So the Z had pretty big shoes to fill when I went out with it soon after. I gotta say that obviously it wasn't anywhere as quick, but it did not disappoint.
Seems like the Stillen unit is enough to keep temperatures around 260-270. It was 90+ degrees in the sun though so you have to take that into account. When I left the track, the cars thermometer for exterior temp read 102 degrees and only dropped 3 degrees when I got on the highway. I think a thicker core will do the trick. I am not going to be running dual coolers. I think a single unit will work. You should all make up your minds. The Stillen kit kicks *** in my opinion. I do wish the core was a bit bigger or thicker though, maybe it would be cool for STILLEN to offer a different core for us folks in warmer climates. Brakes: The rotors got destroyed in three laps with some hard hard braking. They overheated, so did my fluid I think. I'm going to have to re-do the entire brake system with fluid, rotors and pads for the track. No more of this nonsense, it was dangerous to lose all braking. It felt like the car was on ice, just sliding as I applied the brakes and the pedal went through the floor. Then after it cooled a bit, I got most of my braking back. 3 Laps into session 1 http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t.../ERMEHMS03.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t.../ERMEHMS04.jpg http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t.../ERMEHMS06.jpg Power: It feels strong, but it needs more low end grunt. I tried staying in 3rd through most of the infield, but I don't know if that makes me happy just yet. If I could carry more speed through the corners, It would be alright, but I cant just yet. Almost all of the cars in advance solo had through passing me on the straights, I had to get off the throttle. I felt like the GT3 was a good bit faster, the top end was so nice, awesome motor. Suspension: Car stays pretty flat for a stock suspension that is so nice. However, this will be changed soon. Needs swaybars, needs a lot more stiffness. Definitely will be buying every chassis stiffening bit I can get my hands on. Tires: These things actually held up and held on till the end. They aren't bad for stock street tires. Nothing to write home about though. I will be getting a separate set with Toyos or something... R888's may do the trick, or some NT05's. Josh, how much for that AP kit again ? May be worth it after all ;) Oh and you can all thank mightybobo for me not posting track videos up. :P |
Good stuff, lots of data there, thanks :)
C'mon, post the video already. We'll keep the gay stalker in his cage this time ;) |
Pictures added up to the other post.
More pictures coming on this one. |

Really good info. Those rotors look completely shot.
|
Did you get the ice mode with the ABS before the hard core fade started? The brakes really shouldn't give out that easy, just doesn't seem right. Soft metal makeup in the rotors?
|
Yes I did, it seems almost like everything was fine until that ONE big stop where it did that. The brakes went after that. Very interesting.
|
great write up and review, sounds like you had a great time
