PPE Long Tube Headers Installed...

I got PPE Long tube headers installed yesterday along with a fidanza flywheel and SS Clutch Line (another awesome mod !!! )... I was supposed to have a dyno and re tune right after but that was delayed until Tuesday. They did take a baseline dyno before the install though so there will be a before/after comparison.. However, My motor was just changed due to OC, so there are variables that could cause a bigger change in power with the retune. But from driving the he car is def quicker than before and I am expecting to see some nice gains. The shop praised the built quality and said the design looked good. Tuesday it is going back on the dyno and getting the tune tweaked, right now I am running very rich, they said 2 points rich at least.

The one pleasant surprise was that my cars exhuast note is actually MUCH cleaner than before. I went from Berk Test Pipes with Stillen Exhaust to these PPE Long Tube Headers and Stillen exhaust. The car is actually quieter at all rpms with a cleaner sound than before with test pipes. There is less rasp but a more aggressive tone (The pitch of the exhaust changed a little.. for the better ). There is still some rasp along with the lovely hiss but it definatly sounds better than before. I was expecting it to get louder and more raspy and they did the oposite...

My headers were coated and I believe go for around 1,000 on PPE's website. I purchased them used off another forum member a few months back. His Nismo is the car posted on PPE's site with dyno charts giving him 20+ whp , but his car was all stock otherwise...

On a side not, the shop had to drop my motor to get them in. They broke sockets and just decided it would be easier to just drop the motor. Driver's side was a nightmare. Mine was the only 370 that they had to drop the motor for (typical luck of mine) , they installed 4-5 sets of FI LTH without dropping it. But the install IS tough for these... The original quote was very reasonable but went up a smidge because of the motor, but still very reasonable. Money well spent. Performance Motorsports installed these...

So Tuesday I will post before/after dyno charts... but keep these in mind if you are contemplating headers. The biggest plus again is how clean the exhaust sounds.

I am super happy with these and do not regret the purchase or install a bit.

Gears, flywheel, headers and tune... You should be moving nicely. We should meet up sometime so I can be jealous of your setup :)

I'm glad to see performance motorsport seemed to treat you well. I'm considering having them do some work with me soon.

PPE are step headers. Always gonna be a plus. Step headers give a great all around power curve between torque and hp. You only have to install them once so it seems like a no brainer to me.

Is it crazy loud ??

chuckd05 05-21-2011 09:01 AM

No it's actually quieter than it was before with test pipes at all Rpms. Not sure if that's the case with the FI's but def with these PPE's

Yeah, LTH's alter the engines acoustics. It actually lowers the volume and resonance compared to TP/HFC's, but at WOT its about the same as TP, if not a smidge louder. Curious to see your before/after plots.

back to dyno tomorrow...

I have thrown a code p0850 which is neutral position sensor or something like that.. shop must have left something disconnected or something, have no clue what it means but car drives and behaves normal... I am sure they will take care of it..

will post dyno charts tomorrow evening as long as I get the car back tomorrow...

I would agree on the exhaust note changes, I went from Berk Test Pipes to FI long tube headers with HKS exhaust and the tone got alot cleaner and deepend :)

I will get one up as soon as I can... sorry I have been a little busy the past two weeks :) The only reason I am on the forums during the day is because I have computer access at work :)

On the plus side I am taking my car to get UpReved Tuned tomorrow morning!
