Default Hot Air Intake !!

So I have the 3G Stillen intake. And I noticed in the drag if I stopped the car for few minutes the headers makes the Intake very hot specially the one in the passenger side I think the small space in that side. so when I drive the Intake cools off but when I get back in line and wait I start the drag with a hot air intake !! it would be great in the track I guess. I didn't have this problem in the winter but now it's another story in Phoenix

I was thinking of wrapping the intake if possible, I come from a hot climate country were we used to wrap the intakes so it doesn't get hot, until now that is the only thing I can think of, might sound stupid but any suggestion ???

You can use something like this:

http://www.performanceracingonline.c...sourceid=GPPRG

Or this:

Cool Cover 36" x 14" - Universal Air Intake Shield Wrap | eBay

The first option will be best as gold is the most efficient reflector of heat you will find for automotive applications, however the intakes will still heat soak in Phoenix level heat if you sit in traffic long enough.

The foil can actually look pretty good if done right.

I shielded my Gen3's a long time ago. Pics + Parts Here. Note that I don't give a **** what my engine bay looks like, within reason, so obviously my parts won't be kosher for you show-car types

I know there are certain ones that are a wrap, so if you make it to where it is removable, you can take it off for DD and for shows... and put it on for Track events.

I assume it's pretty effective. Most of the heat entering the G3 tubes seems to be on the upper segment (close to the TB), you can feel the heat on the bottom side of those, coming straight up from the exhaust manifold / header. Any insulation for the intake tube in that area has to help. Our Intake Air Temp sensors are just below that point (the MAS modules), so I don't think the difference actually shows on out IAT readings. If you shielded the lower part out in front of the radiator (from radiator heat) that might show up on IATs if it works, I never did yet.

My links were outdated, I fixed them:

Thermo-Tec's intake air tube shield for most of the coverage (measure and cut out some rectangular holes for the MAS blocks) + DEI Cool Tape for the MAS blocks and sealing up the other edge areas the wrap didn't cover.

Gold heat wrap can look clean if done well in my opinion:

It seems like a nice idea to wrap the intake, but I kind of wonder if it really has any measurable effect. I'd love to see some before/after IAT logs. I might have to try logging it myself when my Gen 3's come in.

I've heard arguments against wrapping intakes, not that it hurts, just that it's a waste of time, since as soon as you floor the gas pedal, there will be enough air to chill those pipes back down very quickly. I guess it's a question of how quickly an unwrapped pipe soaks up heat, and how quickly it will cool back off from just the air flowing inside it. If revving your motor before a launch is enough to cool them back off, then I would argue it's pretty much not worth it. Or maybe just a fraction of the first second after launch, where you are probably traction limited anyways...
