At that price, I'd spend a little extra and get a Gemini.

Not so sure. Most folks have really liked the Y-pipe sold there for $80 shipped for example.

I think you CAN get a good buy IF you do your homework...which is why I was wondering if others had already been the guinea pig!

A lot of people also just try to justify their purchases.

Besides, at almost $700 shipped, it's a very different value proposition.

I agree with you. I would ask folks to think about this for a minute though...

Just what is it about an exhaust that makes it worth $1,500 or so that so many here pay? I mean think about it, we are talking steel pipe here folks!

I did a little lookup and 304 stainless runs under $10 a linear foot for 2.5" OD.

What do you need maybe 20' max? Then there are the mufflers, hangers, bending...etc.

I think the markup on most exhausts is like 200%. If you sell en mass, then a 20% markup could be sustainable so $600 is about right.

Now, I am not saying that THIS exhaust in specific is a good buy as I don't know anything about it, but you get my point in general, it is possible to sell a decent exhaust at that price.

I would never purchase an ebay exhaust. If you want a cheap exhaust, go to your local exhaust shop and give him $200 and run 2.5" plumbing from your cats to your stock muffler. That's what I did except I dumped my cats for LTH's, it gave me the super loud sound I wanted. That and I couldn't find the exhaust I really wanted at the time and I couldn't swallow hooking up Tony's FI LTH's to the stock exhaust which is damn restrictive.

Sure. PM the vendors about the Invidia Gemini. Prices are about $750-800 shipped. Name brand, good quality, good sound, much lower markup.

Ok, so you factored out the cost of Material alone. Congrats. You're forgetting the time it takes to build one exhaust or header set. We're talking a few hours of labor to make just 1. And also the operation of the equipment to manufacture said exhaust. Sure the parts alone might not warrant the cost, but when you think of the complete process and people involved in it, you understand where the cost comes from.

Also I can tell you first hand the difference from spending a little more for a quality exhaust vs an eBay exhaust. Just because they claim 'made from the best material possible' doesn't mean it. And are you an advanced metallurgist that can tell the difference just by look/feel? They aren't expecting this so you won't be able to call their bluff. But a few months to a year down the road (especially in a moist environment) the parts will start to rust, and inside the cans what you think is packed fiberglass is really just more metal that rusts out and now you have nothing more than a reasonably priced noisemaker.

Not to drown your spirits on getting the eBay exhaust, but honestly, I'd rather buy 1 part thats a little more expensive now than buy the cheapo version, that wears out and has to be replaced later on again. Just my

darrinps, did you add an X of H pipe in that setup? Without this, the exhaust can't be pulled from the manifold/valves efficiently. Not that you can't get better sound and some more power. I'm all for creative solutions if you can't find the right exhaust for the right price. I did a muffler delete on my Mazda3 and it sounds great for $40.

I have purchased used name-brand exhausts on ebay before with good success. But would be hesitant to purchase an unknown used product.
