The OEM cats creating a restriction, and slow down exhaust pulses.
Replacing them with either higher flowing cats or completely unrestricted pipes (i.e. test pipes) will improve exhaust flow, resulting in more power. they will improve power with the OEM exhaust and should also bolt up to any aftermarket exhaust, unless it includes test pipes or high flow cats. Both cats and test pipes are deleted with headers.
