Invidia Gemini - Anyone else having issues?

So far my muffler has broke at the hanger welds and now their is a crack inside the flex joint in the Y pipe, all in 4,000 miles with no track time at all. The shop near me said the had another Z come in recently with a leak in the Y pipe on the same side, so clearly there are quality control issues.

I suppose you get what you pay for, it's the cheapest full catback out there, but IMO it's one of the best looking for that stock-ish look and sounds amazing.

Is anyone else having any issues with their Gemini?

UPDATE:

I figured I should update this since I fixed the issue, the flex pipe was cracking because I didn't re-install the oem cat bracket when installing test pipes. The extra flex from the engine without that bracket was too much for the flex pipes it seems. It's been several months since re-installing the bracket with no issues.

That doesn't explain why the hanger all the way at the muffler cracked at the weld, but I'll toss that up to a manufacturing issue and Invidia replaced it very fast. Still very happy with the exhaust.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. I haven't had any issues on mine. BTW, it doesn't have a Y-pipe. The design uses a X-pipe, which makes it a true dual exhaust system. Was it at one of the flanges in front of the cross-over that you had a leak?

I bought the Gemini for my Z based on how satisfied I was with the Invidia Q300 (older model) exhaust I installed on my FX45 1.5 years before. Both exhausts are working perfectly.

I guess I should have been more clear, yes it is an X pipe, I just meant the portion before the X near the cats where the flex joints are =]

It's leaking from inside the flex joint, how many miles do you have on your exhaust and how cold has it gotten there?

djpathfinder 11-03-2010 10:37 AM

It was installed back in April, and I've got 8000 km (5000 mi) on it now. The temps have been down to around freezing.

W.O.W. 370Z 11-03-2010 10:39 AM

I have had zero issues so far. I will check mine to be sure but I am sorry to hear you are having issues.

I'm hoping I just got a bad batch, it's just frustrating to have the muffler break and now the flex pipe, and to hear of someone else having the same exact leak on the same side in the flex pipe.

TBSS2008 11-03-2010 11:41 AM

I had a leak on the passenger side resonator. But it was not from lack of quality I scrapped the exhaust hard over a large speed bump. I haven’t had any issues with the flex pipe and my leak has been fixed. I have 13,000 miles on my Invidia Gemini.

coaster 11-03-2010 03:19 PM

No issues here for me either. I've had mines for ~1k miles now.

kevr6 11-03-2010 07:45 PM

I put about 8k on my Q300 exhaust and no issues (minus the rasp) and now have put 3k on my Gemini with no issues. I also scrape on occasion. I will pay more attention at each oil change now.

djpathfinder 11-03-2010 07:57 PM

Yes the old Q300 was a little raspy for the VQ engines, which fortunately my FX's VK engine did not have. The Gemini was designed to remedy that. OP, did you check the warranty on that or contact the vender?

esfourteen 11-03-2010 09:57 PM

so a few members here and only me with issues so far, just my luck eh? I hope it was just a fluke and none of you guys wind up with anything similar.

atx370z 11-03-2010 11:26 PM

slightly off topic...

how does the invidia exhaust sound with hfc's? raspy?

djpathfinder 11-03-2010 11:42 PM

Have a look at these two threads. They have youtube links to video demonstrating the sound in combination with G3 intake and ERZ HFC.:

http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...omparison.html

http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...ew-thread.html

For my car, there's a tiny hint of rasp at around 3500 RPM heard from the outside, not in the cabin. I think this combination produces the best combination in terms of sound quality and minimal amount of rasp...you can read the impressions of the OPs of the above threads.

HOOPZ 11-04-2010 12:19 AM

Sorry to hear about your luck with it. I've got about 5k on mine so far and no problems yet, knock knock.

I don't have hfc's, but i do have the gtm resonated test pipes and it sounds great. No rasp that ive noticed, but I've not heard it from the outside under normal driving conditions.

370Z JT 11-05-2010 12:47 AM

lately Ive been getting this violent rattle (for like 1 second) when downshifting at low RPMs. Usually happens after I drive the car hard for a few runs.

Anybody have this issue?

djpathfinder 11-05-2010 12:59 AM

It's not shuttering like you're about to stall the car is it?

docaam 11-07-2010 02:29 AM

ok guys, I had a FI 18" SS exhaust which I just sold, I am looking for a quietier option then FI so anyone who heard both Invidia+HFC is less louder then FI CBE alone or not?

I am in between Berk CBE+ Berk HFC or Invida CBE + Berk HFC, only issue I dont need any drone like before and need the sound of be on minium under normal driving conditions

djpathfinder 11-07-2010 08:51 AM

I have Invidia and ERZ HFC. Having compared side by side with someone else with just FI, mine was a little quieter...not by a lot. My combo has no drone. Compared to someone with FI plus HFC or TP, the FI combos were much louder. Bottom line, if you don't want loud, don't get HFC or TP. Having said that, Stillen and Invidia are probably two of the quieter exhausts around, and I'm happy with my setup.

docaam 11-07-2010 10:46 AM

Thanks for the info man, actually I am changing because only FI with 18" reson sound was fine slightly louder but ok for not getting into trouble with police here. But I want to add most probably HFC or double resonated TPs so with Invidia i guess the sound level would be same or slightly lower then FI along.

How is the sound on normal cruising under 3k rpms

djpathfinder 11-07-2010 11:01 AM

Unless you're gunning it the system sounds about the same as stock from the inside while cruising. No annoying drone on the highway. The tone is deeper than stock for sure. Watch this video for a good comparison:

Were you able to talk to Invidia or the vendor you bought it from and figure out a solution?

I've personally dealt with Gordon before from another forum and purchased from him, and he was great to deal with. He might be able to help you if no one else can.

Bernard was out of the office until monday so I havent spoken to him yet, I have no doubt he will replace the pipe thats broken, he replaced the muffler already. I'm just a bit disappointed having to warranty 2 different parts of an exhaust system, seems like quality control is not so great, at least on the day mine was built heh. Hopefully I have no issues going forward.

djpathfinder 11-07-2010 11:47 AM

Yeah, that's so weird...2 problems on the same exhaust. Maybe you're taking those turns too hard. LOL ;)

kevr6 11-07-2010 03:32 PM

Double checked mine yesterday! No issues!

esfourteen 11-27-2010 09:59 PM

They sent me a new pipe for the passenger side that had a crack inside the flex pipe, I installed it about 2 weeks ago and its ******* CRACKED AGAIN. The NEW pipe they just sent me is cracked in the same spot, inside the flex joint. WHAT THE FFU#RFD(8y03r8931r893r-9ujvugewohu

They are sending me another pipe and they want my old one back to investigate, hopefully they can get this fixed permanently. My only guess is the particular type of flex joint they are using at the moment and this cold weather we have here. Theres no other reason for it to crack in less than 2 weeks from quite normal driving.

djpathfinder 11-29-2010 12:36 PM

hmmmm. Yet, the driver side is ok. Strange to get two on the same side with the same crack.

its also strange that this crack developed so quickly, perhaps the passenger side sees more flex for some reason.

BalanBro 11-29-2010 06:48 PM

How did you notice it was cracked? I imagine that you wouldn't be able to see it without removing the exhaust.

It leaks exhaust out of the flex joint, you can hear the leak and feel it if you put your hand around it. If you dont hear an exhaust leak yours isn't cracked =]

TongMan 02-02-2011 02:29 PM

Just bought a Gemini exhaust. So any update on this issue?

brado 04-18-2011 04:51 PM

i am now having the same problem. its because i put test pipes on the car. invidia said with the extra heat of test pipes it caused my flex pipe to crack. what sollution is there to this problem OP?

esfourteen 04-19-2011 12:55 AM

my issue was resolved, see updated first post.

Daishi 04-27-2011 08:12 PM

Im having the same problem now. passenger side flex joint leaking..

do you have HFC/test pipes?

Daishi 04-27-2011 11:31 PM

Fi long tube headers.. still the joints should not be failing.

Thanks for updating. Good to be able to put a finger on the cause.

navamous 04-28-2011 12:14 AM

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the Invidia catback for the Z. I've had the Invidia catback exhaust, downpipe, and up pipe for my Subaru WRX for 2 years now with zero issues.

ZForce 04-28-2011 01:19 AM

Sorry you guys are having problems, sounds like the mfg has been working with you on the issue and hopefully they resolve the issue once and for all. And maybe provide an upgrade to folks that have already purchased their product.
