Stillen Headers on 370z
Here is a few shots of installing headers onto my 370z that I got from Stillen. The Install took place at my shop Relentless Rpm. I will post up some more pictures along with a baseline dyno and a post dyno. My base line dyno pulls vary between 279.6hp and 283.6 peak hp. Next week I will do some after runs with just the headers. I am also working on our own catch can and will post up some install photos of that.
One Place i see a lot of gains to be made is in the y-pipe area as it gets very narrow after the cat. Two words of caution, Nissan made one cat nut super tight on each side and we ended up breaking a stud on each side that we need to use the heat wrench on, and also it appears nissan cross threaded the a/f sensors on my car. Luckily I had a die to retread the a/f sensor to install into the stillen headers. If you guys want more pics of the installed piece i can through it back on the lift come monday, I am going to enjoy this weekend off. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0539.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0540.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0541.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0542.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0536.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0533.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0532.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/DSC_0531.jpg |
have you driven it since the install?

Nice! Those bolts are rediculous. I broke a socket and two extensions on those bastards when I installed my HFCs.
|
Looking Good, Dyno!?
|
More pictures please!
Did you happen to snap shots of the merge collectors before you put them on? |

These are g37 headers but the OEM part numbers match 370z/g37. I should have post dyno numbers next week. Josh and Kyle at Stillen were a big help with this. |

so they fit in there with no problems??
how long did the install as in how long did it take to get the headers in. did you guys try chemicals to get rid of the orange crap on all the nuts and bolts? |
Looks good:yum:

Wow! I'm definitely keeping an eye on this thread now that I've got the Stillen Cat-back and Berk HFCs in already. Headers would be a good next step! Great job, and thanks for the pics!

I'm also looking at this with lots of interest. I think Im going to be sending a lot of cash Stillen's way when everything is out.

Cant wait what power gains you get.

i made a ton more up high but lost mid range which i feel can be gained with more exhaust work. Dyno charts will be up tomorrow i forgot my jump drive at home today.
|
i like! how much!
|
Whats a ton? 25whp?

waiting.....
on my Z headers freed up supposedly 22hp in the midrange. |
Waiting, I don't understand why we cant just be told, but we have to wait for the pretty pics.

Yes because aesthetics count at that point. The graph is important to see the curve, but it could be easily described until pics are up. I'm just not being too patient lately. I am patiently now awaiting pics :)

Looking forward to seeing the dyno chart/numbers. Sounds like the header job isn't too much fun... I wonder if my buddy and I can manage it without a lift.

The current trend in cars is understated vs overstated, but all I see is vendors posting their new products on this list and people wanting sound clips or video's of the product. A little dissapointed that people seem to be more into bling than zing. The first thing people on the Vette lists want to know is how much it dyno's, not what it sounds like. Wow........where are the independent dyno results? I'd hell of a lot rather post a kill story instead of "it sounds killer" story. Don't you guys really care if it's fast or not?? |
Denny, it's getting old quick.
Not everyone here wants sound, not everyone here wants performance. Not everyone on your coveted Vette forums wants to see power power power. If I get on the vette forums and give you guys a great set of headers that sound like **** no one will buy it. I'm a little disappointed that you cant see past the few people on here that want bling. There's people like that everywhere. Also, where on this thread do you see ANYONE talking about caring about sound rather than performance. Almost every post wants to know power gains and what the torque curve looks like. I think you've just been saving that comment because you are getting frustrated with some people who want to take the car a different direction than you. You don't have to be disappointed, just understand that people like different things. This isn't anything personal, but sometimes we may get into trends that other people start finding annoying and someone needs to let us know. I like your performance-focused approach. I am the same way, just take it easy. |
^^harsh but true. I would like to see some dynos

Denny, remember that practicality is application specific. My application is having a fast and fun daily driver, not a race car I drive on the streets. For me an exhaust has to meet a lot of criterea before I purchase it. These include weight, power, quality, sound and looks. I don't want an exhaust that ruins the looks of my car any more than I want one that sounds like *** or doesn't make power. Why choose between looks, sound and performance? Demand it all and choose the one with the least compromise in what is more important to you. |

My thing is I've seen so many dishonest power claims, that I refuse to believe any until I see someone test aftermarket products who is not trying to sell it. Horrible attitude right..... then prove me wrong the gains are not overstated and it not an accident if they are. Hey, I'll be the next in line to buy if you can. Honestly waisted a lot of money on things that didn't do what they said they would do. Really......... and that gets old also. |
I like that you are trying to call bs on some of these vendors that are posting outrageous claims. I think you have every right and that you should definitely test things out and that will help all of us. I will be testing JWT intakes in the coming weeks...but I dont want to have to go all the way to the dyno (hour away) to just test intakes, so I'm also waiting on GTM to release their super duper 24whp exhaust system to test along with it. I need to get those two and the oil cooler before I can go test again... Also waiting on your test of the stillen longtube intakes...

guys i am sorry my father was rushed into the hospital on monday for emergency surgery and It has just been a whirl wind. I will post some graphs tomorrow when i get them pulled off my dyno computer. I have not forgotten. I will say I lost a lot of power through the mid range. I need to talk to someone at stillen about this.

Sorry to hear about your father, cancer sucks.
By the way, what's the deal on gaskets for the headers? Does Stillen ship new gaskets for either side of them (or are the old ones re-usable at least on the engine side on a low-mileage car - or do I need to pick up some gaskets myself from a local parts place?). I guess I'll be calling them to ask about this tomorrow anyways. I've got a ceramic-coated set due to arrive on Tuesday, and Berk HFCs sitting in my garage. I'm hoping to install both next weekend while I have access to a lift (I figure I may as well deal with the PITA cat removal just once) as my first major bolt-ons, and then deal with cat-back and intake at home without a lift later (still haven't decided on an intake anyways, although I'm leaning towards Stillen's G3 one once it becomes available). Once all of that's in place, then I need to sort out getting the ECU tuned, either mail-order or maybe I can find someone who's good with a dyno here in Houston, we'll see. |

Your In texas why not contact Uprev and have your rom dumped and tune your factory computer? We use uprev at my shop and until i am a sponsor i can not advertise prices on here. Your going to find that the drivers side header is a major PIA but the passenger side is a walk in the park. A few pointers on the drivers side. The bolt at the front of the car use a 14mm on a swivel a 6ich ext then another swivel and another ext and a rachet and attack it through the wheel well... It will make sense when your there. The Bottom two rear bolts attack from underneath with a long 14mm rachet wrench. Also I have a very long 3/8 to 1/2 ext that you use a 14mm semi deep swivel on to remove the cat bolts. But in a good note the passenger side is a walk in the park. One word of caution, is the 02 sensors in the factory manifold were a major PIA to remove. They were cross threaded at the factory. I have a 18x1.5??? Die at work i used to rethread them before putting them back into the stillen headers. If you need a few pointers PM me for my number and I can help you a bit over the phone. And Guys thank you so much for your kind words about my father, he is going in for another surgery this week for his back, that will be three in the last month. The tumor has attacked his spine. Been tough around here between working long hours and helping care for him. I moved back home lately to help out. As for my dyno charts I have not forgotten I have print outs here but at work right now it is hectic. We are building a rear mount turbo Titan for the Titan Show this weekend and we are cutting it very close, and throw on top of that a few 350z builds and a 240sx RB swap I am swamped. If you guys want any custom parts made for the 370z that other vendors have not address let me know and I will present to the owner of our shop/dealership. And If your in southwest Florida and want to stop by and just say hello feel free!!! Ryan |
