Update - Sunday afternoon
Well, you guys must be a little bit braver than I am.
I went down to the auto parts store this morning and was able to get a couple of straight 1/2" to 5/8" connectors. Although they might work, I didn't like the way they went together. I think I'm going to get a couple of 1/2" to 5/8" 90 degree connectors and then try again. Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate them.
