Default Ticking noise

anybody hear a loud ticking sort of noise from under their car after driving for a little bit? it sounds like someone is throwing pieces of rock to the under portion of my car. the sound is pretty intense. is this just everyone or just me O.o sounds like its coming from the exhaust. After the car has been turned off i hear that sort of ticking but thats pretty usual as the car is cooling off. but when i get out and the engine is still running the ticking gets really louds sometimes.

I made a post 1 year ago and it's just cats cooling off. Nothing to worry about!

The sounds I've been talking about are just subtle repetitive ticks, like a metronome synchronized click-track, that are completely stable (at a given rpm). What you've recorded is something very scratchy and erratic...

But this one is audible with the engine on, right under the cats. if it helps, tomorrow I can take two videos at the same time with one camera under Left and one under right cat. Next time drive your car for a while. When you come home, instead of turning the car off, go outside and look under the cats. See if you hear anything and report back please. thanks.

To answer your question, YES you can hear it up to 2 feet away from car(if it's really quiet out) . Am I overreacting?

edit: wstar beat me to it and said basically the same thing lol

I have the same issue with my Subaru. It ticks EVERY time i drive it even if i only go 20mph and keep the revs relatively low. It also didn't happen much when i bought the car about a year ago but not it's constant. I guess the metal got old and warps a lot.

Yeah Subarus sometimes sound like sewing machines. But the ticking i'm talking about is definitely some sort of metal cooling esp after I park the car. it's just odd how it happens 10x more than it did when i purchased the car.

I dont know if it is a different noise, But I get a ticking sound ALL the time. Even when My car is warm and is just idling, already heated. I also have Test Pipes.. I took it to Nissan and they said it could be the injectors but it sounds like it is coming from DIRECTLY where the test pipes are. Would my test pipes be doing the same thing? Please help! This car has sooo many weird quirky sounds

It is normal. the car ticks when turned off and when its iddling.

its because when you drive you shove alot more hot air through the exhaust.

while iddling its alot less causing the temperature to change making it tick.
