Hi , anyone try modifying stock exhaust for a louder sound?

Washer mod? J/K Google it to get a laugh.

Seriously though, just doing high flow cats or test pipes bring some better sound out the tail pipes.

Or you can either go with AAM short tails (muffler delete) for a much louder sound or the AAM S-line axleback muffler for a slightly louder sound. I went with the latter and am quite happy. Modifying the stock muffler is probably not worth the trouble and the results would probably be horrible sounding.

also Topspeed motorsports. That’s where I’ve got my exhaust kits for my G35 and now for my 370z and loved them. Great sound & quality no problems

Obviously you can do a muffler delete to get some sound right away but it might sound a little raspy/ricey. (Not good quality) . High flow cats or test pipes are another option but without upgrading the exhaust piping may also lead to raspiness/rattling and you’ll be increasing air flow through your cats but still have your small stock piping holding up the air flow. Your best bet is to just start with a catback exhaust system (TopSpeed motorsports offers them for $500 shipped) and there are many other relatively cheap options for pretty much the same quality/sound as the expensive systems. And then after a while get some high flow cats to go with your catback and it will sound incredible, and in the end you’ll have some nice power gains.

How’s the quality and fitment of the AAM axleback muffler? Any drone? I’m thinking of going with that myself.

Quality is topnotch with perfect fit. It did not need any shims or tweaking to fit. The exhaust tips are perfectly centered. Zero drone at any speed. It’s a deeper tone with a slight growl to it. I’d say it’s about 25% louder than stock.

Honestly you are better off just getting a aftermarket exhaust installed when you can afford it save up and junk the stock exhaust.

I have an OEM Nismo exhaust for sale. It will give your Z a deeper exhaust note with no drone or rasp, add approximately 9hp and the tips are larger and look much better then the base tips.

i've done muffler deletes and gutted the stock cats. Cold start it's pretty loud and there's A LOT of drone 2500-3k rpm.
