Default Cutting off HKS Hi-Power Exhaust resonator

Hi guys,

I just want to ask your opinions on something. I just recently installed the HKS Hi-Power Exhaust for my 370z and it doesn't make that much of a sound inside the car. I asked a friend of mine to drive it and let me listen to it. It sounds pretty good from the outside but there seems to be something that's making the sound less louder. A few friends of mine asked me to cut the resonator off and replace it with straight pipes instead. The resonator is located at the H pipe. Has anyone done this before for their 370? How does it sound like? I'm also planning to change my HFC in the near future. How will that sound like after getting rid of the resonator? Hope you guys can help me out.

Thanks in advance

I would wait untill you do HFC's before you chop up your expensinve exhaust. Wait and see what it sounds like with the HFC then make a decision.

Please don't! That's the beauty of this fantastic exhaust! It sounds quiet when you're driving your Z on the highway or on the road at low rpm, but the moment you open the throttle up, the canisters are bypassed and sounds absolutely exotic. As the RPMs rise, the sound increases. I love every moment with it. It rarely has any drone at any RPM and I have done 4 hour continuous road trip with 0 headache. This exhaust is probably one of the well built and intelligently designed exhaust for 370Z. If you wanted something loud and with straight pipes, there's a Magnaflow exhaust for sale of $800. Sell this HKS and buy one of those. I do not recommend cutting this beautiful exhaust. Just my
ped likes this.

It is very possible that it might. What brand do you plan on getting???? Worst comes to worse you can just get the car UpRev tuned and have the CEL tuned out.

Also... it is all too easy to cause weird rattles and hisses on this motor as you experiment with the exhaust system.

Wait until after the HFC's.

You bought an exhaust just to have it sound loud in the car??

You could've saved money and just cranked up the stereo.

I plan on getting Berk's.. But I've done some research and some people have custom made the HFC with good stainless steel material. What do you think of that?

I would 'NOT' mess with a well made exhaust. Just like others have stated, install H.F.C's. I did. HKS W/ F.I H.F.C'S, No Light. Very satisfied.

I had the same thing when I got my GReddy but wanted it to be a little loader. so got the HFCs and try them you will get an awesome sound don't do anything to that exhaust that will loss its value. HFC for a deeper sounds and good gains. or test pipes for laud and raspy sound with more gains.

Dont you dare ruin that exhaust lol!

I just finished up bolting on some GTM Resonated Test Pipes and it's quite a bit louder, deeper, and more powerful!!!!

This hiss of our VQ's might get to be annoying but I'm happy now.
