Thinking out side the box 370z SINGLE TIP EXHAUST

OK so Robispec is partnering with a customer to build a 370z..for redline time atack Starting with the stock class and developing time attack wining parts over the next 3 years(the 370 will stop at the mod class in 2011). This is one of the starting parts..this is the exit of a true 3" mandrel bent catback exhaust. We went with this design as the 3" flow dynamics will support 600+ hp and we are thinking ahead to the diffuser we will be building...all the current exhaut systems out there were right in the way of the "tunnels" we will be developing. I would love to hear your comments, oh the lowest part of this exhaust is 2" higher than the stock pipes.

Nice to finally see the option arise for a single-exhaust setup.

Although strictly in terms of aesthetics, I think most would agree that a dual-tip arrangement would look the best for center-exit exhaust. Very interested to see what you guys will come up with for a diffuser, too.

Robispec 11-02-2009 06:36 AM

thanks for your input as you can see there is not a lot of space for "extra tips". Here are two picts of the central diffuser "keel" muffler cover in dry carbon.
side

rear
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...ncoverrear.jpg
This will be added too going towards the side...as you can see there is now a huge gulf where all the exhaust parts went. This will allow us to get the roof of the tunnels as high as possible(= greater effect)adjacent to the keel.

this will balance the front splitter

without resorting to drag inducing wings and canards yet. (still looking working on HP options).

also a functional harness attachment point adds 0.5 lbs to the car and has over 18,000 lbs in deflection resistance(not yield just movement) amazing what a large diameter thin wall tube can do.

sound?

Whats it sound like?

LiquidZ 11-02-2009 06:54 AM

I am very interested in seeing what the finished car will look and perform like. Functionality is dead sexy.

Red370 11-02-2009 08:00 AM

Very nice, good to see Robispec is developing setups for our cars, kudos to you guys:tup:

M.Bonanni 11-02-2009 08:39 AM

Welcome Robi :). Glad to see more time attack 370Zs being built :)

curious to see what suspension setup robispec will be going with, to hear the exhaust, and to see the rest of the mods. Kudos robispec !

kannibul 11-02-2009 11:59 AM

Maybe I just have a dirty mind, but...

Mike

thanks! looks like a nice community...the car is currently 3010 lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel (BBK,racing seats, exhaust, associated SWADN....)

wheels are 9.5x18 front 10.5x18 rear with 265/285 ado8's.....
Suspension is a "worked" set of KW v3's with straight rate racing springs front and rear...

ssqpolo 11-02-2009 02:37 PM

can we get a walkaround video with u revving a little or taking off pls! im really curious as to how this sounds. i like the look of the double better, but props to being different. and the addition of a cool rear diffuser might make me change my mind on looks. great job guys

ZKindaGuy 11-02-2009 03:01 PM

What is the advantage of the single over the dual besides less weight?

More power in the upper-RPM range as well as an intoxicating exhaust-note. :)

In for sound clip

Ah so I see this is intended for track usage and not some street ride.

on the floor at SEMA sound clip saturday. Sorry
the reason to go this way is first packaging...Robispec uses lots of underbody AERO and we need space to develop the downforce.
Second a single large diameter tube flows better example 1 three inch tube flows more than 4 times what a 1.5" tube flows...but is almoast as easy to plumb.
last WAY lighter...you are looking at a part that is 12 lbs...replacing 47 lbs.

M.Bonanni 11-03-2009 08:48 AM

Saw the car at SEMA yesterday, only about 3 booths over from mine.

Hey RobiSpec,

I would love to work with you guys on some ideas for this...

About 6 months ago - I created (photo shopped) an idea similar to this that almost came to be, and I would have been sponsored for it...long story short - the developer wanted to go a different route and it left me with just my imagination ;)

So here is the pic of a design I thought would work well if someone could create a rear bumper/diffuser combo'd with an exhaust system specific to the bumper. I'm not very good with pshop but it was merely to get my idea off the ground. I got the inspiration from the bugatti veyron + taking our existing non-functional fog light and using that as the exhaust port.

See below, and let me know what you think...

WHY cant these companies make something like this, I would pay for this no matter what, i am going to look into, cannot be that difficult.

So what are the offset on these new enkei wheels? Hopefully enkei offers offset higher than 22mm for people that don't lower their z.

Robispec 11-04-2009 11:18 PM

these are +38 rear and +40 front I ordered them like this because it is much easier to space than cut the wheel back...the "effective offset" is +13 rear(10.5" wheel) and +15 front (9.5" wheel) this puts the tire right out there next to the sheet metal but no rubbing (and the car is STUPID low....(or SEMA low)... there is room for up to a 12" wide wheel 335 or 315rear tire in the back and 11"rim/ 295/305 in the front imo Coilovers in the rear would cut this down by 1" for spring clearance.

no problem the tip will add $100 in small quantities....I'm up for it. I think it looks fantastic too!

DannyGT 11-04-2009 11:24 PM

I should get the first one... ;)

imag 11-04-2009 11:25 PM

I dig the center exit exhaust in current form - functionality is indeed sexy. I'm looking forward to seeing this car develop...

The fake tip is always a bit weird. And overheating becomes an issue. It does look very nice though...

I would be in for something like this, looks great! I was considering doing a custom dual center exit (like on my Mini Cooper S) but this look way more exotic. nice job Danny

Now that does look good. Sorry OP...good idea, but not something I'd be interested in, but this...

LiquidZ 11-05-2009 10:06 AM

The more I think of it, the more I love those PF01's.

Robispec 11-05-2009 10:50 PM

Robispec will have them available in DECEMBER!

jmlenz 11-07-2009 08:23 PM

these center exit exhausts are dead sexy! I'd be all in if the final diffuser looks the part.

Robispec - are you developing a full single 3" catback or just a simple axle back?

B1nks 11-07-2009 08:48 PM

Yeah, I'm diggin that DannyGT idea and the center exhaust along with those Enkei wheels. In for more !

Also, which Enkeis are those ?

dcrew1x 11-07-2009 08:52 PM

That does look pimpin...Just wondering how it would affect sound/performance with a single pipe.
