Exhaust and calibrator

Hello All!
I bought a 2010 Z last summer from dealer which installed aftermarket exhaust(and intake also... I think) From last week, SES light came up and I felt car doesn't go enough as much as I press the accelerator, also I keep heard some noise from bottom of car when I shift a gear to natural. So I dropped my car to Nissan service center and they told me that problem is from exhaust and cali converter, they suggest me to change it to Nissan's original one and it costs about $4600. He told me they don't have an information about exhaust installed on my Z. Can anyone of you gimme some idea for make it cost less?

Find a new dealer asap.

Thanks for your reply. What does mean find new dealer asap? Each dealer asks different price to repair? It sounds like serious problem, isn't it?

It sounds like they're exploiting your lack of knowledge. What was the code? OEM cats should be under warranty on a 2010.

A code is PO420. As you know, I'm kinda person have no idea about car. Can you gimme something I can do myself for this problem?

Read the warranty? See how long the warranty is on factory cats. Then take the car to a different dealer.

Thanks but when I bought this car from dealer, they told me this is out of warranty as like Nissan dealer told me... No way? Just pay $4600?

No. Read the warranty. Emissions equipment is treated differently. And you can buy another set of takeoff cats here for cheap. Or buy aftermarket.

You never need to go to that dealer again. They're trying to screw you.

Thanks for your advice. Please, understand me... I bought from used car dealer, not Nissan dealer, I have no idea how to check my warranty for emissions equipment. I have some paper from dealer. If you suggest me to buy aftermarket products, do you have any product to recommend?

The warranty applies on emissions regardless of whether you bought it from nissan or not. Search online for warranty info. And there is lots to read on aftermarket cat options if you search around here.

I just google and find out the manual book for warranty of 2010 Z. According to this manual,

“Long-Term Emission System Defects Warranty Parts List”
are covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs
first.

So, my car is actually out of warranty... (2010 with 92000 miles...) I think I have to pay...

Then start looking at either buying used cats or upgrading. You'll save a lot of money.
