Hawaii Chat Thread

This worked out well in my350z and decided that there should be one here. Especially since I just bought a 370

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My car is currently in California and was deciding to have GTM install the supercharger kit (Stage 1). However, due to moving back again to Hawaii... I want to save money for new furniture, camera equipment, and other random things. Now my question is, if I purchased the supercharger kit... which shop would you guys recommend to install the package? I hear MunkyWurks and Sonics are good shops... just want to hear some of your guys opinions.

:driving:

XLR8SN 01-18-2011 11:59 AM

The answer to your question...is that for the most part, from what I hear around and some experiences dealing with Sonics, yes, you heard pretty much correct.

They both deal with a different type of tuning software from what I understand though. However, you might want to go backwards. Talk to the shops first before you purchase the upgrades then that way you can see if they are comfortable and are willing to work on those software and tuning programs as well as the "package" that you are looking into purchasing.

definitionxmk 01-19-2011 10:29 AM

Thanks XLR8. I already talked to Sean @ MunkyWurks earlier about the install and had a good vibe about things. My buddies have used Sonics quite a few times and hear nothing but great things as well. I might end up getting it done in Cali but that all depends on the stockmarket =P Plus both shops seem to be pretty busy with Fatlace coming back to Hawaii.

definitionxmk 01-19-2011 10:35 AM

Oh and I'll getting some new filmmaking equipment (GoPro HDs, Glidecam, new dolly, etc.) and would like to do a strictly 370z video. It will revolve around a story and not just shooting cars and adding random music.

Wondering if anyone here would be interested in helping me brainstorm some ideas to get on paper... Filming will most likely be around April but I just want to get started on grabbing people's interests and ideas. Maybe even enter the video at an Indie Festival!

XLR8SN 01-19-2011 11:40 AM

Honestly...its going to be hard I think....not impossible...just a "challenge". The 370Z crowd here in Hawaii seems to be the "older" group....LOL....as if I am young myself :p. Anyhow, from what I hear on the 350Z boards...owners of 370Z's have not yet really come out to any of the "meet and greets". Myself included. Part of it is yeah.....some of us are a little out of the scene now and just tend to sit and watch from a far.

I dont know of any other 370Z owner....but from I see...a lot of them are military personal versus the "everyday" local folk here.

definitionxmk 01-19-2011 12:20 PM

I do notice that the community is a lot older, quieter, and do not really participate in the events that have been going on... I see it as most of the "younger" crowd cannot afford our cars and go with a 240sx, any Honda, or older supercar (supra/rx-7). As for military guys, I usually see them driving Chargers/Mustangs/Camaros/etc.... sure there are a select few who are into the scene and have great taste, but are too few to mention. But that can be said pretty much anywhere...

Whenever I see a 370, I usually end up seeing an older person that is happy with their "nice sports car". To date, I've only met one 370z owner on the island with a lot of dedication and knowledge with his Z. I'm hoping to meet more of you guys when I get back and hopefully start things up!

As for the video idea... I'm sure I can grab other people, especially in the other VQ community forums to start up something. Just throwing it out there!

370zHawaii 01-19-2011 10:05 PM

military guy here..but grew up between here and the mainland.I think I got good taste:driving: and I am not old, just feel unmodded so I would feel out of place going to a meet, not knowing anybody and possibly be the only 370z there....I might go by the NEX this Friday I hear a lot of cars meet up there on Friday nights now, anyway welcome back to the ilse when you get here:tiphat:

XLR8SN 01-19-2011 11:32 PM

I am sure that you would not feel out of place...at least they should not treat you that way just cause you are stock. From what I see on the boards....at least the usual Z/G meet ups seem pretty mellow. The NEX ones are a larger and I think...more diverse group.

definitionxmk 01-20-2011 01:19 AM

Yeah, the people at the NEX (FRI/SAT) area seem to be a little more "F&F" than the other meets i've seen. However, you do get to see a lot of rare/famous/infamous cars on the island... The OahuZ/VQinc meets are more relaxed from what I've seen. Plus most of them are my good friends. I recommend going to those as you get to meet a lot of great people and do what we all love to do; talk about cars.

When I get back from deployment, I'll be heavily involved in the media aspect of things. So yeah... come out!

nixxer 01-20-2011 08:43 AM

I attend a few VQ Inc meets now and then just to talk story. Im usually the only 370 around, and my car is basically stock. I dont really care though, It may not be photo worthy or as flashy as the other cars there but w/e. 370s are few, and thats good in my eyes. I agree with the above posters as well that most people cant afford a 370/G37 and go for cheaper used cars(not saying our car is like, ferari status or anything). I also agree that the majority of owners are more 'mature', IE: not the show offy type bouncing of the rev limit in front of coldstone, or drag racing in front of the zippys meet spot... :ugh2: And XMK, you know im down to brainstorm ideas anyday.

Kingbaby 01-21-2011 06:23 PM

coldstone...

lmao

besides that it was a great meet and we need more of it and have rules set out that theres a time and place for the revving...

XLR8SN 01-21-2011 07:05 PM

I am surprised that the security team wasnt all over you guys like white on rice.

On a cruise...long time ago...we all pulled into the top level of the parking structure and before we could even get out of our cars...security was flooding the scene asking us to leave. Shheeezzz. We were actually all getting together to eat and we had a police officer with us as well on that day. Talk about "profiling" :p.

definitionxmk 01-22-2011 01:23 AM

Mmmm... they have been pretty relaxed the last time I was there. Bleh, I can really go for a coldstone right about now.

There are some ground rules that were laid down a long time ago, and the local security dudes usually dont bother as they are notified when the meets are, and what is and is not allowed. That night there were a few new people, and a few new people that dont know what they should/shouldnt be doing is all it takes to set off a chain reaction. At least a few of those new guys learned to *never* follow a black 370 or a legacy GT... lol. We go our own way and do our own thing before going to new spots :rofl2:

Kingbaby 01-22-2011 06:58 AM

lmao...

john was pissed...

*cough*

I beat everyone there

*cough*

370zHawaii 01-22-2011 05:43 PM

went to the NEX last night.....hmm was not impressed and def not my scene, level of maturity reminds me of way back when I had my eclipse, I think I grew out of the whole reving my car, donuts, burnouts, etc etc thing, although the were a few nice cars, seen a white 350z out there that was about it for the Nissan Z family, Tons of 240's weird I used to have a 240 and I kinda miss it cause me and my ex used to make out in the back seat a lot LOL, anyway where the heck are all the Z's

Kingbaby 01-22-2011 08:29 PM

there is a car show today so most of us was helping or working...

sit tight...

and stay online for the latest..

the "nex meet" is 2 fast 2 furious=fact

cops eat folks up from 10-1am so be wherey of whats going on when on the highway on friday saturday and sunday don't get caught in a pack of hondas or cruisers

ends in someone getting pulled over...

we may have a cruise or meet within the next two weeks

definitionxmk 01-22-2011 09:49 PM

yeah, those weekend ones tend to be like that. the z/g meets are more mature in nature.

^ This. People were busy with the Chase Customs car show, and the NEX is a terrible 'meet'. Too many boy racers and civics in 1 spot never ends well. Ive got caught in their shenannigans on the way home from work a few times, and find it funny how they downshift to 3rd to race and all you have to do to 'beat' them is 50% throttle in 6th.

definitionxmk 01-23-2011 06:53 AM

Honestly, I don't like going there during the weekend. I'm always paranoid that (a) someone acts a fool and for some reason I get a ticket (b) someone might mess up my car and (c) some type of accident occurs. Granted, If I do go, I end up just sitting by Starbucks and enjoy watching some ridiculously looking vehicles. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice cars there, it just is too "F&F" for me.

And what's up with the chicks all being around the civics? I believe they belong in a Z passenger side seat

IMWEZL 01-23-2011 06:54 AM

Just watch out guys I've seen more than a few pile ups on a couple of cruises. One guy was showing off his civic and slammed right into the back of the car in front of him.

The NEX meetings were "discouraged" for a while after someone decided to pull out their gun and pop a couple of shots. This was about 2 years ago now.

definitionxmk 01-23-2011 07:07 AM

nixxer 01-23-2011 08:07 AM

This is the most active the Hawaii section on this site has been since its creation. Granted its only like 3-4 people, but still

It's why I'm here.

Kingbaby 01-23-2011 10:12 PM

some of the islands fastest cars come out to the "NEX meets"

and there two sides...

The actual nex parkinglot consist of mostly military "boyraces" as Gonzalez pointed out. Basicly kids Army/Marine kids who dropped there deployment on thier cars thinking it's the hotest thing out...:lmao:

The Jackinbox/McDonalds parkinglot side is the locals "ricers". Still there a few cars you DO NOT race.

I go frequently yet I don't leave at the regular cruise times or with anyone I don't know...too risky

Yet I get my fix with a few Z/G cars we gets it in...

370zHawaii 01-24-2011 04:53 AM

:iagree: 100% cause that's exactly how it was, just not my scene maybe if I was 15 again......no not even then:inoutroflpuke:

definitionxmk 01-24-2011 05:11 AM

Heh, well we can make our own side! I'm down for some Panda Express!

nixxer 01-24-2011 05:59 AM

That side is usually where the Z/Gs are anyway, at least when I went. A couple other small groups would be there too; subies and evos. The ocasional civic would drive by with their terrible 'exhaust leak' sounding pipes to scope out rides. As long as you dont leave when the hondas do and leave before/after or drive in an entirely different direction, its all good.

Kingbaby 01-24-2011 06:12 AM

:iagree:

been doing research...

I might be seeking out a nismo370z...

Haha I used to think my SRT4 pushing over 400+ whp was the **** until I played around with some civic hatch with Hello Kitty stickers on it.

Back then there were a couple of nice Supra's that came out too. Eventually, I started to feel old and decided I wanted some new...then came the Z.

Have you guys ever thought about getting together and going to one of the SCCA events? You get to hang out/meet a lot of other non-ricer car enthusiast and learn some skills about how to actually drive the Z. It's not hard to get started either. Sccahawaii.org will square you away with everything you need. :driving:

Kingbaby 01-24-2011 07:29 AM

^^^

there's a pink that's destroying supras now...

seen it with ma eyes...then seen it destroy a C5 Z06....

then proceed to burn tires at like 70-80mph...

shiet was unreall...

about the SCCA thing a few of us participate in it...

definitionxmk 01-24-2011 08:29 AM

^I've been thinking about it... but I might use my 350 instead of the 370 during those events. However, it's a good thing to consider...

definitionxmk 01-24-2011 08:31 AM

Yeah, i've seen some crazy builds on those civics. But at the end of the day, I know I could have made an even more badass civic with all the money I put in my 2 Zs!

Save yourself some money with a base + sport 370 and mod to your tastes. Unless you really like the body work/rims, then go for it. But if its just the 'performance' you want - think about what i suggested.

I agree that they can be fast as hell, but they are rare and cost more than the boy racer and F&F crowd can afford to mod i think. I dont think those cars are DDs either; more or less project cars. At the end of the day though, its still a civic parked in the garage. Then again, its still a car enthusiast doing what he finds fun and interesting behind the wheel. As a fellow driver/enthusiast, were all the same. Its just the younger crowd that tends to throw the curve balls. Heres how you can tell the difference: If you worship the supra or the skyline GT-R and think its the most bad *** car in the world and can desroy anything on 4 wheels with no exeption... your a ricer.

Too much? :wtf2::rofl2:

(Disclaimer: They ARE amazing cars, but they arent the end all be all. They do represent the peak in import tuning - cant take that away from them)

definitionxmk 01-24-2011 08:45 AM

I thought about the Nismo and would have not regretted anything if I bought it... I already knew I was going to go FI and wanted to start fresh. If I got the Nismo, I would not even mod it at all. That's just me... if you get it, more power to you!

Color?

Kingbaby 01-24-2011 09:27 AM

black...

it's either move up to the 370z or boost past it...

definitionxmk 01-24-2011 09:32 AM

Get it. Haha

IMWEZL 01-24-2011 11:40 PM

Yep the pink little hatch. For a second I thought I shifted into reverse.

Kingbaby 01-25-2011 12:23 AM

lmao...

we needs to meet this friday...

definitionxmk 01-25-2011 02:05 AM

Wish I could go... Then again, I just wish I can drive my car(s)
