Noob questions incoming... What do the coatings do?

I honestly haven't looked into it. I will get you details. I am assuming they offer a skirt coating to reduce friction and maybe a ceramic coating on the top to reduce heat absorption.. At least that's the typical stuff I see on pistons... But in the really brief conversation I didn't ask for details on that.. I was cutting to the chase and going for the numbers so I could check interest

That's the way I understand it as well.

BUMP!

OK so we need 7 guys who are 100%. If we get to 7 people, I can place the order and they can start building the pistons. I will put my name on the list first:

1: phunk

This is very interesting and I think after I look into it I would be interested. I want to begin to collect the parts for a decent (stable) build, and this would be a great starting point.

I love the sound of 10:1 rather than the 9:1. So there are currently no 10:1 "shelf" that are made for our platform?

Great thinking and greater price!

phunk 07-25-2013 02:50 PM

correct, there are no shelf pistons in 10:1... even if there were others, i would opt for the CP with a price like that.

unfortunately there is little to no interest for this, so the pricing would quite be a bit higher since it looks like there is no way we will find 7 people at once.

Chuck33079 07-25-2013 03:42 PM

I'd be in, but that would bring the count so far to two. That doesn't even get us a set of free stickers, much less a discount.

phunk 07-25-2013 04:05 PM

Well.. I suppose we can just keep a list going and see if we make it to 7! Maybe they would give it to me at 6.

I think in six months this list will be well into the double digits. We've got a lot of soon-to-be MHI kit owners, and some portion of them are either going cheap on supporting mods or don't have the self control not to play with the knob on the boost controller.

Chances are those people will have to abandon/sell the car because they won't have the funds for repairs.

Then I'll be able to pick up a spare block to build up for pocket change since its blown. It's a win win.

That's exactly what I was thinking

yes, those are the most common. I got factory trained on applying the stuff a few years back because a local corvette shop was wanting it done, but I don't like dealing with hazmat. I do have the coatings in my fridge still though, but I won't apply them for customers.

the point is, you do a dry lube on the skirts and a thermal barrier on the top.

Block wont be any good if a hole is blown threw it :icon18:

Seriously more people should jump on this I have 10:1 in my built motor. I am tempted to get on this list for my spare long block I have sitting in my garage.

GaleForce 08-21-2013 06:52 AM

Add my name to the list.

4 more to go and we have pistons being made! When I posted this thread, I had also just ordered a set of custom pistons for a buddies car. His pistons came in last week!
