Anyone had the Oban 18 year single malt Scotch?

Holy smokes. And that isn't a pun. One of the more unique kinds of Scotch I've tasted. Anyway. I'm not sure if the nearly $100 price tag is worth it. I think Glenfiddich 18 takes it especially for the price. But still. If you haven't had it you should at least try it once. Good stuff.

Don't how I only found this now, I only drink once every few months or so and really only hit the whiskey on a few days a year, If I'm looking for something to pair with a cigar I usually go with makers. Used to have friends who let me drink the good stuff occasionally, I have had taste of fiddich 30 and I can't say it was too much better than 18, different but not a couple hundred dollars different. I stay away from the scotch most of the time because they get out of control with cost quickly, so I would say when I do drink it would be makers on the rocks or straight depending on my mood.

If I am looking to get belligerently shitfaced plowed I stick with the hih proof rums, apple pie, Fleschamans' run through a brita filter three or four times and a 30 of w/e is cheap or 6-12 guldendraak 9000Quads the theory being i won't remember it anyway and dam growing up in WI haha

I like Bulliet Frontier Whiskey or Blanton's Single Barrel for my everyday bourbon, both have a great taste and and are very smooth. Drink it on the rocks. I want to try some Pappy Van Winkle, but can't find it around here anywhere.

I'm just getting into Scotch, just finished a bottle of Glenlivet 18 year, it was very nice. Complex flavor, but very pleasing. I had the Scotch neat, never got around to trying it with a little water. Not sure what I'm getting next, maybe one of Johnny Walker's.

Give Kraken a try if you haven't already -- strong, very, very dark spiced rum. Good shit

I like both a lot. For something smooth with a unique taste try Rowan's Creek. It is even 100 proof!

Default Ky. Bourbon Trail

Ky. is where it began and we own it. Do the Bourbon Trail starting in Bardstown Ky.. Enjoy a week of learning the history and tasting. Then move South I-65 about 3 hours into Tenn. and tour the Jack Daniels facility. Charcoal and grain is where its happening. Ky. invented it and used the rivers to sell in Louisiana for years then the mob got their hands on it, "prohibition". We still have it and we love our liquor of rotten grain, limestone water with a hint of burnt white oak suit in it. We like our tobacco dark fired and sometimes sticky. Our horses are fast and our women are beautiful. We own the Corvette but prefer 370Z's. Toyota's are best in holding value and are built in the Bourbon Trail home of Ky.. So pack your Z with whatever makes you happy and tour the state of happiness and good taste. Once your done in Tenn., keep going to the gulf into Destin Florida. You will be amazed at the beauty of that little fishing village.

Jordo! and TMRN370z like this.

My two favorites. You guys with the JW blends....yeesh. Those are so over priced, almost any single malt over $35 has a better more unique, deeper flavor.

Ardbeg is a good one. I enjoy it on occasion but its not my favourite. I do love the tasting notes for it when they describe the nose as "tar covered rope"

If I could have only one scotch in my cupboard it would b the 18year old Highland Park

Laphroaig and Lagavulin are my go tos for islay malts. I've recently been interested in the Japanese whiskeys though and will probably pick up my first bottle in the next few months.

The Ardmore is most certainly not a particularly peaty or smokey scotch...
