I say whatever estimated psi it takes to runk 650 whp.. 16?

Please be safe, don't go losing control of the car when it lets go or stand near the engine if on dyno. You won't want one, if those rods or whatnot flying at you.

15 psi broke lose pretty good in third but it held together. No funny nosie yet.next will be 17psi and maybe turn it just to see what the turbo well jump to...lol...it ain't going to last long...

Chuck33079 11-06-2014 07:28 PM

I wouldn't be so hasty to pop the motor. It would be a shame if the motor letting go took out parts you weren't planning on replacing. It wouldn't be a good day if the turbo sucked up a lungful of metal shrapnel.

:iagree: if for some reason i do mess up the turbo gives me more reason to build the twins on my car...you only live once chuck.lol...i say that very jokingly....

but all jokes aside i played around on 17psi and im thinking im about to stop there. 1. it's extremely scary 2. i dont think it well last do to the amount of knock. i'm 97.5% it's knocking now.. that wasnt fun...lol...

EDIT: it wont turn over now....guess thats it.

zguynate 11-06-2014 10:22 PM

Ha, I was going to ask if you were going to tune timing accordingly with adding boost in order to see how much a stock motor would last with a semi decent tune. Buuuut since it is already popped, theres no need to ask lol.

I played with the timing and it's not popped yet...it has started back up but not sure if I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow. ..If I do I'm going for 20psi

I had the laptop in the car the hole time

What psi did you stop at?

BBRSpeedWorks 11-06-2014 10:44 PM

17psi

BBRSpeedWorks 11-06-2014 10:46 PM

I really think the pistons was starting to seize up

jwick 11-06-2014 10:58 PM

You running a 6266?

Yes....the motor is done....don't think that the motor lived through this...it's just still running it's done

jwick 11-06-2014 11:02 PM

So I'm guessing 17psi is 650ish?

BBRSpeedWorks 11-06-2014 11:03 PM

I have no clue what a 11.1 at 17psi is other than not smart

jwick 11-06-2014 11:09 PM

I'm guessing at least 625whp.

****, I'm running about 500 at 9.5psi

Rid3_FaM0uS 11-07-2014 07:00 AM

yes I would say its around 650 man. 19 on 9:1 CR @ 93 oct is 650-660 iirc. youre probably pretty close there on 17 11:1 CR and 93

EDIT: define "scary"?

BBRSpeedWorks 11-07-2014 07:50 AM

More like scary fun. The reason I say scary is cuz when I blow up my talon up a piece on the block came into cab of the car and was stuck in the dash.

Rid3_FaM0uS 11-07-2014 09:09 AM

Right on! I'm just really not sure what to expect when the car is finished so I'm still kind of on the fence. On the other hand parts of an engine coming through your windshield at several miles per hour wouldn't really be what I would call "fun" so I could see the scary factor from that aspect.

Ya man I checked ur build looks like it's going to be nasty love the block setup...by the way I'm from Ohio to...r u stilling running the gtm setup with BW turbo or r you complete custom?

TopgunZ 11-07-2014 09:17 AM

What fuel setup do you have on the car? Inectors? Stage return? pump?

It would take a LOT of fuel to be safe on 17lbs.

Were you running lean on your afr?

BBRSpeedWorks 11-07-2014 09:20 AM

Injectors 1000cc
pump 340
fuel return with 1:1 regulter
afr was between high 10 ' s low 11's

TopgunZ 11-07-2014 09:22 AM

Guess you had adequate going to it.

I think the scary part is also hearing that beastly turbo spool. When mine was in the 19lb range it was twice as loud as when it was at 9lbs. Loved it!

haha thanks man! tried my best to do something a little different. and nah I ditched the entire GTM kit. Me, personally, I don't want anything on my car that's designed by a company on the verge of going under. I just don't want the headaches later down the road when I need to source replacement pieces. I'm blessed with the new AAM kit now haha.

Mitco39 11-07-2014 11:11 AM

Were you listening for knock through all this? Everyone knows as you increase boost you have to back off timing to keep the system happy. Increasing boost without touching timing will put you into knock very quickly. One good burst of knock and its done.

What fuel were you running during this?

Also what A/R are you running? Its possible your back pressure just skyrocketed as your increased your boost.

Interesting read though!

1.yes 2.yes I pulled timing back to my extremely safe base map. Everything was on 93...everything was 11 afr. ..I don't think there is away to stop pre dentition with that boost level and compression. ..

Mitco39 11-07-2014 11:32 AM

You were using knock headphones? Also I was asking about the A/R ratio of your turbo.

Also depending on the Uprev maps you have available to you (I dont have knock tables for whatever reason) as soon as you push into knock the ECU will actually add a **** ton of timing when it senses knock. If you were listening with knock headphones you can see this when the knock starts out and then for no reason it just gets very angry for no apparent reason.

No headphones and I have the knock tables in my uprev which has timing pulled past my base map and you can tell when it switchs. Turbo spec are 6266 bb compressor 70a/r turbine 1.15a/r twin scroll

BBRSpeedWorks 12-04-2014 10:37 AM

will i'm done with the single turbo kit for now as i will jump stright into the twin's with the built motor. time to set it on the shelf. maybe do a large single later next year...not sure..
