I'm getting you both blow up dolls for Christmas...
|
Id like to see a VSR car go to RT and let Vince look at the tune...I think there is someone in the burgh with a VSR kit, maybe you all could convince him...I vote poor tuning, just my opinion....I debated between the BP and VSR kit, I think one is more well engineered, and most have gone to top notch specialized tuners and im not aware of any blown engines on the BP kits...just sayin. Hope you get it all figured out OP!

I'm local,
When a company goes from Vortex to S&R to VSR is 3 years there's a reason why. Issue started there well before the kit was developed with this company. To their credit they fired some Fuc Tards and hired some pretty good fab guy's. There welds went from 2 year old on crack to pretty decent in the last 2 years. I wanted this kit but have been waiting for it to mature into a quality set up. I've spoken with Motion Lab has done some amazing things to set this kit up to be a good performer (starting with tune). I hope you get the out come your looking for, I personally want this kit to succeed I drive an AT Boost Performance hasn't made one for us yet. Also would like to know what people have changed to make the kit better. Starting with the MAP. Good luck and 5 to 10 only get's you powdered eggs every morning. |

I agree that you want to have a civilized debate but you have to understand that the motor going doesn't always have to do with maintenance. It's all in the TUNE. If you have a shotty tune, you can do your oil changes at 2.5K miles and motor will still go. :icon14: Like someone said, culprit really isn't the kit, it's the shotty tune job. This is the main reason why I'm super picky with tuners. My WRX specifically goes to a tuner shop who specializes with Subies and only Subies. Why my Z isn't boosted, no shop really specializes with VQ motors. Last thing I need is a money pit like the OP. |
I have a question,
In the picture on the 2nd page in this thread it shows the intake tubes. It shows them smaller and then they have a step up (literally) to a larger size for the MAFs. Why are the boost tubes so small? They have to be maxing out when under WOT. And why the steep step right before the MAF. In order for the MAF to work correctly it needs very smooth flow across it. That step right before the MAF will introduce swirling effect of the air as it begins to rotate. I wish I had access to Solidworks Flow simulation so I could post some screens, unfortunately we only have it for static analysis. Which will wreck havoc on the metering system on the car. If you wanted to keep the boost tubes that small for some reason at least make the change up to the maf gradual and then limit the boost allowed with the kit. Its been proven (CJM) that these engines in their stock form will take 650+ hp and over 500ft lbs. Not sure on the longevity at this power but he did run it down the track a bunch of times without windowing the block. The tune is only as good as the quality of the kit and vice versa. |

I had ups and downs with vsr motorsports also when I was getting my turbo kit from them. I also had problems with jeimports when they were building my motor it happens.
but as for there turbo kit it's been about 1.5yrs and no problem with the kit Most kits don't kill motors it's tuning or lack there of. |
Dang this thread started as a fairytale and ended up into a nightmare!
Its like sending your kid to nice big school to be smarter and then ended up bringing him home later to be a retard! What a nightmare! Well Im reading this thread at 2am Does Freddie Kruger works with SR performance? |
I don't really understand your logic but everyone has their opinion.. Anyone who goes down the F.I. road should know no matter how many successful builds and happy customers there are there is always a chance of it not turning out as you dreamed it would. I don't think most shops are in the business of breaking their customers cars. But with that said some draw the short stick whether that be flawed factory parts or tuning etc. In my case I feel VSR builds a solid single turbo kit. My engine ended up having a slightly bent rod and some oil starvation on the bearings was also found. Ill leave it up to you all to make your decision as to why it happened as most of you will want to anyway but I know I generally have bad luck. So with that said maybe I just drew the short stick and had a weak part in the engine or maybe something was off in tuning? I'm not sure I can only go by what I was told and move on. Slightly bent rod and some oil starvation on the bearings.. Heads looked good, walls/Pistons good no sign of pre det. Also for the record my engine didn't "blow" and still was in running order so don't get that twisted. The noise I had ended up being a rod being bent. Car still pulled like a rocket. Anyway where we stand now the engine is done and just awaiting a few supporting parts to go back in. Bobby is shooting to have the car on the dyno Thursday. It will be tuned on pump and E85 also running a CJM stage 2 FRS 1000cc injectors and walbro 485 pump. Mike from MTuned will be tuning the car. I believe he tuned COSMOs car too. Stay tuned for the results!
