Same here but u would need more side vents similar to Seibon ts hood

This is a shot of the venting of the JP-R hood. It has side vents that come with rain guards which can be removed with push pins. The centre vent seems to sit almost OVER the radiator shroud so I am not sure if the venting will help with heat soak or not. Might vent fresh air from the front this way...

oh, and the fitment is darn near perfect. Slight gap near the hinge on the drivers side but I think I can massage that away.

in for more pics! specially vent being past right at the radiator or not! thanks! The side vent seems to be too far forward to my liking but might work!

I checked the placement more carefully this morning and the centre vent sits above and slightly forward of the radiator shroud. You can see the top of the shroud and a bit of the coolant overflow tank through the opening. With the front edge rubber gasket reinstalled on the hood, the air should vent from the front of the engine bay, not from the fresh air side of the shroud.

The side vents sit forward of the exhaust manifolds, but for twin turbo guys, they are ideally placed. I have no doubt they will aid with heat venting in stop and go traffic for sure, regardless of their placement.

A side note, none of the vents are visible from the drivers seat! The slope of the hood hides them. You do, however, see the slight bulge from the front hood lip which looks awesome!

:tiphat:

pic with amuse rep bumper too. You can see the vent placement better here

It would be a full hood replacement.
I am looking someone to make it who is reliable, and will make a quality product. let me work on a price and do a little more research.. because I have a aero kit I am trying to get produced as well

I'm definitely interested as well. Please keep me posted.

Edit: Just want to clarify I'm looking for venting options due to my FI build. I'm looking for solutions that take the intercooler into account.

I'm not really sure whether this thread belongs in here or in the "body/exterior" forum but I figured I'd start here as I suspect I'm not alone. If a mod thinks this belongs elsewhere, please feel free to move it.

So unsurprisingly, I'm having radiant heat/heat soak issues especially when the car is pushed hard and I'm looking at more engine bay venting before I look into a bigger oil cooler/radiator/other cooling options whatever. I already have the vented fender liner from GTM so a hood scoop would be a nice way to get some air circulation going.

Thing is, I'm not crazy about the vented hood options I've seen posted here (carbon signal, seibon etc). I really don't like those diagonal vents as it kinda ruins the lines of the car - no offense intended, just my opinion.

I ran across this on my facebook feed (not my car):

http://i.imgur.com/XgYgGwe.jpg

...and it turns out this is a non-functional scoop - ugh. Is there a hood that looks like this or the old 350z vented hood style? I've been told modifying the stock hood (even with a fantastic metalworker) is a bad idea for several reasons.

Any ideas?

What's running hot? Coolant? Air intake? Oil?

How hot is hot?

If we're talking a 10-15* change, especially at idle, you might get away with just venting, but really, you'd want to have air ducted to an actual heat exchanger, and not just a place to allow ambient heat to escape. For example, typically with a top mount IC, the heat changer is mounted close to the hood, so you will commonly see a large duct to allow air to pass over the heat exhanger -- it's not simply designed to vent off ambient heat (although I believe a few older Camaros used to have a backwards facing scoop for venting...).

Also, pure ductwork venting/cooling is trickier to get right than you might think -- if you are in a low pressure area on the car, the air might not flow where you had intended.

Meaning, I think you should not bother with the hood and instead identify which heat exchanger is insufficient and replace that.

On that note, if you are using an A2A intercooler, you might consider switching to A2W. Then you can mount the heat exchanger wherever you want, duct accordingly and take advantage of the considerable heat absorption of water.

Another option is to have a water spray set-up or use water/alcohol injection, which will also absorb tons of heat.

OPs not talking about intercoolers, hes talking about engine bay air temps

unless there is a wind tunnel to test a scoop, vents are the only real way to remove heat from the engine bay, the scoop will work, but how well no one knows

looks like the WC z's are running VIS hoods, i'll end up picking up one of these, based on vent placement this looks ideal so far

I agree, I have a carbon creations Hot Wheels hood that is working great but the two vents closest to the windshield are useless, those look right to me.

wstar 04-01-2014 08:24 PM

Those look like the SFR Enterprises cars! I got to stare at one in detail for a couple of hours last year while it was parked at an event down here in Houston and pick over all the details to steal ideas for my amateur stuff :) The hood I saw was at the time was indeed made by VIS, but the one I saw then didn't quite look like any known VIS production model for our car. The ones in your pic look like the VIS Terminator.

martin82 04-01-2014 08:32 PM

yes looks to be 100% the vis terminator, I'll have pricing tomorrow from a friend that will hook it up!
