Lol!! That is the cutest little intercooler I've ever seen!

AkumaMS 04-19-2013 07:36 PM

Agreed I thought the same when I saw it. I have never seen this kit was used to the old Squire Remote Kits that were used on the camaro's etc.

We hope to have this all buttoned up tomorrow!

EFI Logic 04-21-2013 11:36 AM

interesting to say the least for the intercooler

This looks like the old kit..aka the original that they shipped out 2 years ago. The inner cooler is tiny. I've got one sitting in a box collecting dust right now along with some rusting pipes. Make sure the pipes that are coming off the inner cooler are coated properly. Otherwise they WILL rust. I know from experience from this kit.
Also I hope they don't have any noise ordnance up there. This kit is extremely loud, add in test pipes and it's unbearable.

Dzel 04-21-2013 03:07 PM

Aww yes the threaded FB and rust scandal!

blackonorange 04-21-2013 04:22 PM

It's my old kit

Not trying to thread jack but if you were only a fly on the wall during my conversation with STS about that issue.:roflpuke2:

Good luck with kit and hope you get some good numbers:ugh2:

Trust me I'm trying to hate on you. Just warning you of what to look, coming from the 2nd STS system installed on a Z, for with this kit. Word of advice, get some resonated test pipes and put another resonator in line. With the test pipes you will see a lot better numbers since your cats restrict air flow to the turbo.

AkumaMS 04-22-2013 08:27 PM

Yes we already spoke with the client and he specifically asked about adding in the resonators. Yes, it is a bit on the loud side LOL!

The pipes do look to be coated and thank you for pointing that out. We really can not wait to get this tuned, we are just making sure everything is all good prior to tunning.

Just make sure the 2 pipes on the cold side of the inner cooler are coated. Those were the 2 pipes that rusted like a mofo on my kit. I know the methanol had a lot to do with it but hey better safe than sorry. @Nism0...check your filter often. I forgot and under heavy boost I crushed my filter from it trying to suck in air. Good luck and you've got to beat 481whp and 427wtq on an AT7. ........ un tuned.

AkumaMS 04-22-2013 08:44 PM

A few pics of the kit installed and on our lift:

You guys didn't keep the clamps that come originally with the kit? We switched them out for the V-clamps and resolved the exhaust leaks. Please tell me he has a oil filter relocation kit. That turns into a bear when it comes time to change the oil with out one. Well at least on the AT7.

My headshaking was not directed toward you in anyway lol. It's a small intercooler due to it being a rear mount turbo. And I've seen the same size intercooler on my buddies vortech supercharged 350z. But ANYWAYS.....

I did in fact buy STS resonators that have to be installed into the y-pipe. I don't mind how loud it is, but it's a lot too raspy for my taste.

I bought a new filter in place of the one that was sent with the kit. I need to buy a filter sock, but will regularly check it to make sure it's always clean. I am hoping for around 480whp and 400wtq, but only the dyno will tell... tomorrow hopefully.

I installed the kit myself, with the help of a friend. My friend and I were able to move the pipe enough to get the oil filter on/off with no issues. If I ever add an oil cooler I will with-out-a-doubt need an oil filter relocation kit. I was going to get different clamps for the exhaust. I will triple check for leaks again but last time I checked I did not have any.

Question for you tower.

The only thing I dislike is the oil pump. It's really loud and I do not have the self tapping screws over tightened. I know the instructions specifically mentioned over tightening those screws could transfer unwanted noise from the oil pump into the cabin. Was your oil pump extremely noisy? If so what did you do to solve the issue?

I thank you for your input. It has been helpful. I really have not been in contact with STS except to order their resonators and Mark seemed like a good guy. My friend and I were able to figure out everything on our own.

I had the guys at AKUMA do a once over on my car and they were able to correct a few of MY mistakes. These guys are awesome! And have been extremely helpful in this tuning process. They have treated me with the up-most respect and are all very knowledgeable in this field. I am very happy I found AKUMA Motorsports and highly recommend them.

Hopefully I will see you all tomorrow with some decent dyno numbers!

tower74 04-22-2013 09:46 PM

I really only heard it when the car was cold or after a nice run. After a while you kinda get used to the noise. After the test pipes went in I really didn't hear anything but a loud growl. Worst case you guys should contact STS and when it asks go to dial by name and talk with MARC. It's the only one. He will be able to help you with the tune if you run into any problems.

tower74 04-22-2013 09:55 PM

Hell if I wasn't on the road right now I would send you my tunes from STS. All they would have to do is change the ECU numbers. It would be a good start. The last run I did was by far the cleanest AFR numbers I was getting. I was usually down in the 9's and 10's.

AkumaMS 04-23-2013 09:45 AM

Tower, if you can do that that would be great as well. Appreciate all the kind words and we are here to help and better the forum and community.

thanks all

PM me your email address and when I get home, either late tonight or early afternoon tomorrow I will locate those files and get them to you guys ASAP.

AkumaMS 04-23-2013 11:12 AM

Done, thanks tower, sent.

blackonorange 04-23-2013 08:23 PM

Numbers???

AkumaMS 04-23-2013 08:42 PM

Not yet, we actually have a problem with the exhaust piping hitting the dyno when strapped down. Weather was not nice at all here today so even road tuning was not possible. The client has Ark lowering springs on the vehicle.

blackonorange 04-23-2013 08:56 PM

That's weird , my car is slammed like stupid low. What kind of Dyno is it?

AkumaMS 04-23-2013 09:43 PM

Mustang AWD 500 Dyno, the IC piping is rubbing.

That seems like some really wonky piping.

I'm slammed as well, never had a problem gettin on the rollers

Thanks for that! I'm hoping to pick the car up today!

tower74 04-24-2013 03:01 PM

Ok Dave.... I just sent all the tunes they had sent me.
Please please please do not try to load these tunes onto his car. The ECU numbers will not match and it will screw up his car.
There should be one on there that gave me the 481hp....I think it was the 3-7-12 zipped file. Hope this helps you guys at least get a running start.:tiphat:

I am currently sitting at Akuma Motorsports picking my 370z up from this nightmare of an experience. I brought my car here Friday at 3pm and waited until 7 pm to be told my car would not fit on the dyno and i would have to leave it here overnight when I SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED MY CAR WAS VERY LOW AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD FIT. Then Saturday I was highly advised not to come pick my car up because it wouldn't be ready with no reason why. This shop is closed Sunday and Monday so that brings us into Tuesday. They couldn't do any work on my car because it was raining and they needed to road tune it. OK. Now Wednesday. I call the shop twice; once at noon and once at 2:30. No one calls me back until 5pm (which is when this place closes) to tell me he cannot figure out why the car is over boosting and he would have to take the entire kit apart to check my work. I said no thank you I am coming to get my car tomorrow (that being today...Thursday) and i will take it somewhere else. Now I arrive here today a little after 5 after leaving work early to be told many other issues like my inter cooler piping blew off and they had to charge me another hour of labor. When we originally agreed on 1 hr of labor and no talk of any I/c piping blowing apart was mentioned to me. So I am siting in a parking lot waiting for my buddy to pick me up with his trailer and look forward to a 2 hour ride home. It's been 7 days of lies. DO NOT COME TO THIS SHOP. They have been so unprofessional and now I will not be able to attend the biggest event of the year (locally) when I specifically said I need this car by Sunday.

Dzel 04-25-2013 06:38 PM

Wow!

That sucks. kinda why i dont wanna go FI i dont have time for these problems

Nixlimited 04-25-2013 08:10 PM

Sorry to hear it man! Good luck getting it all worked out. A good shop is a godsend.

This is the problem with this kit. The piping of this kit is shady at best. I know some will come to the rescue of the STS kit but with some better engineering this kit might of been a good cheap FI option. I hope you didn't pay a lot for this kit. No more than $2500 I would hope.
I know some will blame the installation of this kit but it's only half the problem.

1. The inner cooler is WAY to small. They have a new one but it'll cost you to upgrade
2. With an oil cooler, you have to remove part of the piping to change the oil filter
3. The kit will never be allowed in a city that has noise restriction
4. DO NOT ADD A METHANOL INJECTION OPTION! It will rust your pipes!
I can continue forever but I will leave with lesson learned of an unproven kit.
Pictures are worth a thousand words.....:tiphat:

It's all about the shop. Also who you know that can help you out when your shyt starts to fail. I've got to thank my buddy Dustin. Otherwise I would of burnt my old Z up a long time ago. Like I use to tell my crew...."If you're scared, go to church.":tiphat:
