Tower how in the hell does it cost $34k to build a motor lol. Please tell me if I'm wrong or something isn't right here... But my friend just built his VQ35HR for about $6k. Carillo rods, Carillo Pistons, Jwt cams, full valvetrain (not sure exactly what brand) ARP bolts, plus other little things and it literally came out to be $6K. The 35HR isn't that much different than the 37vhr. Say a motor build costs around $10k, paired with a $9k turbo kit that can handle 800rwhp... I'm good with that
Stage 5 fuel system: $3400-----Have to feed the girl
New 4.2L with core : $15,400----was going to keep original engine as a back up.
Boost controller, race logic t/c..to control the hp, new clutch to handle the power, new exhaust, gauges etc.
You can't just thrown in a few parts and hop for the best with 800hp. You need to control it and make sure everything else will not explode the first time you get on it.
But hey good luck with your thought of you only need an engine build and larger turbo

I'm aware of how to build a motor and what's needed. No need to throw out a face palm dude. You are wanting a stroker motor which is something I don't want. I already have gauges, you want the race logic t/c... Some of the stuff you want isn't needed and is just for shitz and giggles. They are nice to have but not necessarily needed. I'm not saying $10k is what it takes to get a fully built motor done, I'm just throwing out a ball park number. Also I save on labor and parts that I get at whole sale. With all that money spent on your wasted sts kit you could have a semi built motor and a TT setup with 650rwhp+
But hey who am I to judge how to spend how others go about spending their hard earned money

I was thinking the same thing until I got the quote for $34k to get to just 800hp. I decided to take the $20k+ I'm going to save and use it for a down payment on a GTR. Seemed to make more sense to me.

I believe these intercoolers are rated for 900hp.

IMO anything over 500-550whp is useless on the street.

My last Z was like a month away from having a 4.2L stroker motor installed. I have high expectations to make some serious power out of this Z now. Thats why I'm asking all these questions to see what the full potential of this kit can be.

Yes I'm building my car for track use only after I do a little damage to the stock block at 10 psi for a year or so. 700 is my magic number and this can be achieved with GTM's stroker kit some bottom end work and some MOAR boost!

IMO 450 is about good enough for most tracks. If its a tight track a NA can smoke you. I wouldn't want big HP with all that lag for road courses. So many variables.

^ can't be to much different from there other kits. There's only so much room that things can be routed/ mounted.

I also have to come up with some more dough to run blowoff valves.hehe

I'm wondering whether I should install the kit as it comes and then add the guages and clutch and other misc stuff as I come up with the money OR should I let it collect dust until I get everything around....

Keeping an eye on boost would be nice

Agree with SPOHN, gauges and then the clutch. If you are planning to pull more out the kit then a 3" exhaust and clutch upgrade is a must. Like everyone else has said a thousand times on here...550whp is as far as you should take a stock block anyways.

Boost gauge would be my first. I wait to see how long the clutch can go. No real sense in changing it till. But you never know. Lol
