If ur automatic, what is the point of saying that? You can't ever miss a shift if you're not even shifting! The hard work is already being done for you.
Manual is not for everyone, but neither is automatic.

You do realize that when in the Manual mode, the 7AT operates just like a manual, sans clutch pedal. So you can sit there and just 'go' and never leave 1st gear the same way as if you were in a 6MT. There is just as much room for error in the 7AT as in the 6MT.

The same thing could be said for SynchroRev Matching on the 6MT, it's doing part of the job for you calculating the proper RPMs when you downshift, so unless you never ever turn it on, it's kind of a situation of arguing 6 to one, half a dozen to another...

True an Auto may not be following suit of the 'traditional old-school' mentality of Manual trans or :gtfo2:, but as we've seen, M3, GT-R, Lambo's, Ferarri's, Porche's, are all equipping some variant of an "Auto" trans... And lest we forget, top fuel dragsters.

Hate or not, it is still just as fun in its own way. Sure in a MT you gun it, go, off gas, lurch forward, shift, on gas, snap back, and do this 4 or 5 more times...

But with the 7AT in either mode, you are On the gas, and you never have to take your foot off... it's just go... go... GO. Kind of like riding a jet fighter or a rocket ship. It's hit the 'On' button, and see how far you can push the limit till your balls fail you.

I just recently got a chance to go for a spin in the twin scroll car that I recently built a kit for.....and it pulls hard. 10 psi at 3600rpm and from there you just hang on all the way to red line. If feels like the car came off the production floor like that (and perhaps it should have).

:iagree: and couldn't do so more...

this thing freaking screams...

One of the disappointments when I had my 6-speed Subi STI was how regularly it would miss a shift when going full tilt at the drag strip. I eventually got it to 11.1, and my tuner rode it to an astounding 10.8, but even HE missed a shift the first pass. (Shifting for tens with 500+whp is not as easy as a stock 'slushbox' Z.)

Back on Route 1 at home, I had some MILF in an auto Murano stab the throttle against my Subi from light to light. She killed me because I was pausing between shifts. (Read Chris' quote...) 10-second Subi p0wned by a soccer mom.

Hence, the switchover for me. I LOVE it.

BOY_RACER, errr... 370_RACER, you have much to teach, but MORE to learn.

Just sayin'.... ;)

:icon17: Nice. Can't say the same for other AT's, but the 370z AT in the world of AT's I'd say is very potent... compared to other AT's.

Isamu 09-01-2012 07:55 PM

the 7AT is badass! and I drive a manual..

Poor s2k.

What is insane is he still ran an 11.45...despite running completely into the other lane and then driving back.

For reference, against the top FI Z times...

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

:bowrofl:

Considering he was running 1.5x the HP of any of those cars listed, I'd say I would expect him to do as good/better. :roflpuke2:

But yeah, still pretty impressive to beat a stock Z through the wall... :icon17:
