How much experience does this shop has when it comes to building VQ blocks?

quite a lot, actually

GaleForce 01-14-2013 05:17 PM

Isn't this the same shop that built Mr.Squeeze's motor?

squeeze had his engine machined and built by someone he knows, but this shop did the install

DIGItonium 01-14-2013 08:21 PM

Oh ok gotcha. Hope everything goes well. My hopes and dreams with this car is pushed far out... just part of being a new home owner for the past 6 months lol.

BTW, did you check up on the condition of your OEM components?

Finally, an update! The Z is alive and running strong! The guys at Real Auto Dynamics did an amazing job. Big big big shout out to the crew there: Alex, Rodney and Josh took care of my car like it was their own. The entire engine building process is incredibly nerve wracking, having a team that really knows the VQ made me much more confident about pulling the trigger. I was really impressed with their attention to detail on the install, I installed the TT kit myself and I am extremely anal about people working on my car (thanks for putting up with me guys).

For startup the shop recommended using amsoil engine break-in oil and a pre-luber (pressurized tank that shoots oil inside the engine coating everything). We started the car and ran it at 2000-2500rpm for 20 minutes while monitoring water and oil temps. After that we drained the oil and changed the filter, filled it with non-synthetic 5w30 and I took her home for the rest of the break in. Right now I'm at about 330miles and she runs incredibly smooth, for the first 300 miles she saw no boost, light load at various rpms letting the engine decel. I finally started boosting a bit tonight, still staying under 5krpm for now and I can't stop smiling. You can't tell this engine is built at all, it sounds and drives smoother than stock (this is why balancing the full rotating assembly is key!).

A small side note about the Z1 motormounts, theres a slight vibration felt in the cabin but it is extremely minimal and WELL worth the benefit of these stiffer mounts. I highly recommend them.

Heres just a few pictures from the last few days:

Squeeze stopped by to show off his racelogic traction control (sh!ts no joke), built and boosted brothers!

I'll have to get in contact with these guys for my build. Glad to hear you're satisfied.

It was a rough couple of months not being able to drive the Z, I haven't stopped smiling. If you're interested in building give them a shout, they have my old short block there that I was going to put up for sale at some point. Congrats on the BP kit btw! I envy your very short install time

That's good to know about the short block. I was thinking this would be the way I would need to do it. Find a block, get some one to build it. Then take a "vacation" to get it installed. That way I shouldn't get jammed at the boarder too badly.

The BP kit is a simple install. I could do another in a long weekend easy.

A little late to the party, congrats on the build! Everything looks amazing. I am getting ready to start mine too and I am getting tons of info from this, Digi's and Mr.Squeeze's threads.

What coatings did you use on the pistons? Did you do anything to the rods? Sorry if you already mentioned it and I missed it.

Dzel 04-07-2013 01:24 PM

Nice bro waiting to see what she'll do with some more boost!

roplusbee 04-07-2013 02:23 PM

Congats dude. Hopefully, I won't be too far behind you with my build.

DIGItonium 04-07-2013 04:34 PM

Rougly a couple of months is not bad at all. Man I'd love to ship my car over there to have them build it up someday :)
