I do believe so.

isn't that bad?

Mitco39 11-05-2012 07:39 PM

Im new to this myself. I been doing some research on this since you brought it up and some say its fine, others say its something to be concerned about. It sounds like the flutter is just from having a BOV spring with to high of a pressure. Again totally new to this.

blackonorange 11-05-2012 07:47 PM

Yes that's right, my STs kit did that at the start, then they broke in and haven't heard it since

ENT-Z 11-05-2012 08:15 PM

Mitco - is that with the stock exhaust or did you change over to FI with the install?

Mitco39 11-05-2012 08:19 PM

Thats with the FI Non Resonated.

Boosted Performance 11-05-2012 08:29 PM

I can't hear the audio...the links want me to pay for it for some reason...Anyway, I will check the spring once the car is ready for tuning. It may be too stiff, and the waste gate is fluttering.

Will have to also drill and tap the IM so the BOV has it's own dedicated vacuum source. Since I did not have a base map on hand, the stock injectors were left in place and the IM did not have to be removed. So it was never drilled/tapped for the BOV vacuum source.

I have had my kit on my own car for 4 years now, and there is a bit of flutter only on light acceleration between shifts. With 25,000 miles on the system there is no issue to date. The only thing that would be of concern is compressor surge while in boost. A softer spring could also be beneficial...but it is hard to say without knowing the exact vacuum at idle while the engine is warm.

Either way, nothing to worry about.

Mitco39 11-05-2012 08:54 PM

Figured as much, Thanks again.

GaleForce 11-05-2012 09:17 PM

Mitco39, I put the sound files up on DropBox for everyone. Hope thats ok.

Thanks, I just google'd free file hosting and went with one of the first ones.

binary0x01 11-05-2012 10:02 PM

I might turbo the Z at some point, hoping this option works for people...

Eto Kurto!!

Just trying to help :tiphat:

Nixlimited 11-06-2012 10:54 AM

Car sounds awesome!

Mitco39 11-06-2012 11:24 AM

Thanks Nix,

I love it, very deep down low and winds out nicely, not to loud at idle just a deep rumble. Cant wait to hear what it sounds like under a WOT shift.

SS_Firehawk 11-08-2012 12:56 PM

Sent a PM a while back. Lost a lot of my mail. Is that jig ready for the stock type exhausts?

Never got a PM regarding that...but yes, the stock exhaust hook-up is now available.

SS_Firehawk 11-08-2012 01:37 PM

Resent. When will you start your line with those?

That is a simple change, and it is available now. The entire kit stays the same, including the first down pipe that attaches to the turbine housing, as well as the recirc pipse. Insted of the Y-section that comes with/for the F.I exhaust you get a sinle 3" pipe.

edub370 11-08-2012 04:09 PM

on the flutter sound, or compressor surge.. whatever u wanna call it, people can only theorize that this is bad... however, u will NEVER find a case of a turbo failing because of it. slowing down the turbo doesn't hurt anything any more than coming out of boost does...

if someone can find a case of that causing turbo failure, i will eat my own hand

Through my research after this was pointed out it seems that a bit of flutter is ok. Its when you get to much of a delay in the valve opening do you really start to stress the turbo. Its the fact that the boost is very low when the flutter occurs, under high boost I think you would have some issues.

This is very true, and only happens during light decelerations. If you were to go WOT and shift you would not have this at all. Light decel will cause the flutter because you are not going to deep vacuum and the BOV does not open up right away. I have driven a few TT Z's as well, and can duplicate the sound in the audio clip heard here.

Correct as well. In order to have the BOV open fully the spring has to be overcome. If the spring is rated to at -18hg, and you shift at -10hg, there will be some flutter, naturally since the BOV did not open right fully.

Sasha still waiting on full price with FI 3" exhaust please. And the price for the 3" outlet alone.

Sorry, I never got a PM regarding this (at least one that I cand find). I am assuming you asked somewhere in this thread, and I missed/forgot about it.

Will get back to you on the dual 3" and I assume a 3" cutout?

Dzel 11-09-2012 05:00 AM

10-4

Boosted Performance 11-11-2012 05:14 PM

1..2...3..ya, that's 6 of them:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...2675263386.jpg

It has been a long couple of days. About 20 hours in to these 6 manifolds, and they are about 1/2 way done. Now I need to setup the back purging station (oxygen inside the pipes displaced by argon for a clean weld on the inside) and then go to town. Each manifold will take about 1.5h to weld. Once that is done they go back in the jig, and the last couple of pieces get welded, so the header flanges can be attached. After that, the waste gate tubes and O2 sensor bungs. I plan on doing one per day next week. There is 24 welds per manifold, plus 2 O2 sensor bungs...so it's a bit of work still left to do.

In the mean time, tomorrow will be spend working on the recirc tubes, and hopefully I have time to weld up a down pipe or two. See how things go I guess.

Also, still have one kit without a name on it.

wheee! 11-11-2012 05:55 PM

Nice work Sasha! Enjoy a short rest...

asdfsammich 11-11-2012 08:45 PM

This is by far my favorite eye candy thread.

I cant convince my Wife I need to buy my own $7,000 Christmas gift and not use it for 9 months, or Id snag that last kit. Shes a tricky one.

You have some work to do my friend in the convincing department .:)

chrischhorn 11-12-2012 12:13 AM

looks awesome! I'm so depressed since originally I was going to purchase the kit ASAP but that was when i was in Texas. Just moved to Hawaii a month ago and of course there is no tuners for UpRev on the island so I can't. Hopefully you're still producing in 3-4 years when I get back on the mainland :(

sfearl1 11-12-2012 12:28 AM

I got my Z tuned by Seb and Greg this weekend and they were raving about the quality of Sasha's kit they saw when they were up there for the group tune. Pretty much sealed the deal for me getting this next spring

The kit comes with a base map that will be very good...and I am also working with Vince@r/t on making it perfect.

Yup, they were both impressed by the kit, especially having experience with the TT kits on the market. It was the simplicity of the kit, combined with how much power it made while in single digit boost levels that got them going. :)

3-4 years is a long time to wait for the kit you want. Why wouldnt you just get the tuner kit off him and buy a haltech?

elperuano 11-12-2012 12:28 PM

Haltech on a 370?

SS_Firehawk 11-12-2012 12:52 PM

Better off buying the full kit if you don't have tuning software. Going to cost you an arm and a leg to get custom tuning done. Sasha is shipping out the map you need and the tuner version to boot. Not only that, but you get the upgraded fuel system. Purchasing the software/ getting the tuning done, and the fuel system is going to run twice as much as what he's including it for. I Spent $600 on my Uprev tuner cable and $400 on 3.5 hours of tuning.... NA, you will get owned when tuning a turbo car.

elperuano 11-12-2012 04:13 PM

Better to jus stick with Sasha tune.. It'll be on the safe conservative side I'm assuming and since there's no tuner where you're at, there's less risk goin with his tune. Better to play it safe in ur situation.

Crap. I wasnt aware haltech hasnt jumped onto the vhr platform. :wtf2:

elperuano 11-12-2012 05:41 PM

Not yet, I hope one day tho.. The haltech on my G35 was the best. Complete control over everything.

Boosted Performance 11-12-2012 06:04 PM

Haltech was supposed to have the 370z unit ready for SEMA...so maybe it won't take much longer to release. It really is a great system....I have it on my 350z, and it is the best thing I purchased for it.
