Wastegate spring is the safest, how much boost are you running if you don't mind? Nice build btw!
|
I think he is stock 6.5psi spring like me
|
That is correct, thank you. Btw, I'm in town this Labor Day weekend! My gf is picking up her parents car. If possible, I may pick up mine aa well. Prob is the hfc might get shipped midweek.
|
You will be just fine with stock cats until you get your hfc's in. Extra back pressure will only cause your turbos to spool slower. You will still run 6.5 psi and the extra heat will be negligible.
|
Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'm overreacting to the EGTs. The HFCs is a short term solution since F.I. has no guarantees over its longevity. F.I. will work on a solution down the road that involves moving the HFC further down the exhaust. It's a good idea for turbo owners who want to maintain a certain sound (i.e., no rasp) and not deal with the nasty smell.
Side note... Post #1 updated with a photo Paul sent me of the front end with the LEDs in broad daylight. It would be nice to have an elegant ducting solution in the license plate area that can direct air over the FMIC directly to the radiator. |
Stopped by baker today, they are currently working on the gauge setup and it is going to look awesome.

Got to see the finished gauges installed, this is definitely happening in my car soon.

I get out of work at 7. You guys doing something tonight?
|
Hey ron, looks like everyone is busy tonight. Paul is arranging something for tomorrow after lunch hours.
I didn't spend much time driving, but I did redline in 1st and 2nd. I'm driving like a noob with the new clutch and notchier than usual gearbox. First impressions: It feels like stock, but comes alive when giving it more gas. Fast intentions tdx and hfc makes for an amazing sound. It is not raspy... smooth and deep. Loudness is not as bad when I was stock. Bovs are subtle... want moar! |
Alright, well if its ok with you guys I'd like to join you and check the car out. Let me know!
Edit: You lucky SOB, I can't wait till I go FI!! |
No problem... waiting for confirmation of the plan :) I'll see if I can take it out...
How far are you guys from cypress? |
I'm like 20min away. I think the other guys are closer.
|
I live in Cypress, a few minutes from Baker.
|
This is tough... I don't think I will be out tonight. The car does not like the driveway entrance. Bottom of lip scraped quite a bit. Not sure about taking car out tomorrow either because there will be 3 of us going.
[EDIT] In KS, I don't think we have driveways with the step style entrance, but more of a smooth bump. Just not used to driveways here lol. |
What's up Digitonium, i saw your TT 370z friday afternoon. I was up at baker Jackson north to put my deposit down on my 2012 base+sport. Your z is tight, much props! Now the hard part for me is waiting until my girl arrives, as soon as she does, i'll be having my Z1 oil cooler installed and Tanabe exhaust with the Y-pipe by Baker tuning.:happydance:

I want to drive it some more, but the lip likes to scrape off my gf's parent's driveway. Wish I can show you guys, but I'm with my gf and looking after her lil bro. So... ride of the day is a corolla haha. Other than that, thanks everyone for taking the time to drop by and check out my car and LED mods :) Hope to see you guys today as I will be leaving early morning. |
Sorry guys, the plans aren't working out. Paul is still sick. I am going to eat out with my gf's family before packing up for tomorrow morning.

Updated Post #2 with dyno chart and additional photos.
This chart was compared to a N/A 370Z with bolt ons (intake, exhaust, etc.) and Cobb tune. It was around 290 whp and 230's ft-lb on this dyno. The predicted power from butt dyno was anticipated to be in the 370-400 whp range, and this test confirms this guesstimate. |
^^
It looks sweet! |

Good to hear everything is running well, sorry we could not meet up and hang out.

Your car looks fantastic though! |
He's only running about 6psi. That's fairly low.
|
Thanks!
The target was 6.5 PSI. At 3100, PSI was 4.8 and climbing to a max of 6.4 PSI at 5500-5900 RPM. AFR was around 12.2 at 3100 RPM, less than 12.0 at 3700 RPM, and hovered around 11.2-11.4 from 4100-7200 RPM cutoff. The requested tune was 91 octane (KS gas isn't so great). It's a conservative setup for daily driving. So far I can easily break loose the "few months old" 305 Hankooks in 1st throughout the rev range when flooring it from a roll (VDC off). In fact, I had no idea the car was this easy to handle with the added power. For daily driving, I hardly get on it unless I'm getting on the freeway or making a quick turn to catch up with traffic. It's nice to get close to max boost at half throttle and be able to modulate it. Overall, it feels very good! I'll give it a few months and continue to monitor the boost levels. Next year I will up the boost close to 8 PSI, but Sam says the wastegates are a pain to access. In that case, I will get a high quality manual boost controller over the EVC. Therefore, Phase II will be put aside. So far there's no need to get an aftermarket radiator as coolant temps seem to be very stable even after a 10 hour drive. Oil temps seem to be well in control as well (peak at 215F), so there's no need for an aftermarket oil pan at the moment. If the car starts acting up in 52 days of 100+ deg. weather, then I will consider the upgrades. As much as I would love to get a GT-R intake plenum installed, there are other priorities now (i.e., house and settle down). So... it might end up in the FS section soon. Stay tuned for comparison video and dyno video in about a week! :driving: |
End up in the FS section?!? That's crazy. Good way to lose a ton of money in no time. Hope you keep it and enjoy it instead.
|
He is taking about the GTR manifold, not the car. LOL

I think Phase 1.5 will be upping the boost via wastegates next spring, and that's probably the cheapest power "upgrade." |
I feel stupid. I just found out the bottle of washer fluid has been removed as a result of installing the TT kit.
Solutions? |
:roflpuke2:

How often do you really use it?
