Yes he does because he's installing my 4.08's next weekend :driving::happydance:

Ron 08-07-2011 11:38 PM

I just noticed, no wideband?

DIGItonium 08-08-2011 07:08 AM

Original plan was HKS EVC 6 and AFK, but it might be overkill for my application. Plus, I wouldn't know what to do with it other than to monitor it so much. I had a nice Depo wideband gauge, but it was too wmall.

Ron 08-08-2011 07:43 AM

It would be good to monitor how ur motor is running. A wideband A/F gauge will tell you many things besides the actual fuel ratio. You can check for lean spots through out rpm range and it could give indication if you are knocking. I personally would not go FI without an A/F gauge.

How about EVC-S and Innovative Wideband? They can be had for about $550 both.

EVC-6 and AFK-2 FTW! Boost, A/F and knock all covered. And if you want to go the extra mile Camp-2. I have all of these but the AFK-2 but that will be my next thing I will buy. I will get them molded into the headliner :happydance:

DIGItonium 08-08-2011 12:21 PM

I'll probably save this for Phase 2 :) Eagerly waiting for updates...

Ron 08-08-2011 12:28 PM

I'll drop by tomorrow and take some pics

JB-370z 08-08-2011 12:29 PM

Its not cheap to get the AFK2, EVC-6 and Camp-2 fully implemented in. Prolly say around 3k installed etc. Def not the 500 like Rons idea entails but its the best way to be covered on all bases and some.

Got some MMS photos from Paul today. They're basically teaser photos of the work in progress. Check out the 2nd post for some TINY photos, but you can see in the background the engine has been removed!

DIGItonium 08-19-2011 02:30 PM

Post #1 updated. Paul Morgan has been sending me teaser photos of the install progress. The latest photo shows the completed installation, and the car should be getting tuned and tested sometime today. Gauges will be installed on Monday.

theDreamer 08-19-2011 02:31 PM

Looks like I might need to stop by tonight for some 'test' driving. :p

JB-370z 08-19-2011 09:22 PM

I was at Baker and found not only a built GTM short block but also so ugly silver 370z among-st other things. I made sure to kick the turbos though ;)

Sweet pictures! So the heat shields come with the kit as well?

Who's shortblock is that? What's being done with it?

JB-370z 08-20-2011 09:40 AM

That is Mr. Bakers. Its going on his 370z TT, the white one with the racing project Mu BBK in the back lot. I am tempted to put that mean machine in my car. However, I need a new clutch before I up the boost. I am currently rebuilding a 240sx at the same time. Thats why I have slowed down on modding the Z.

It is amazing how well put together that GTM block is. I will have one soon, no doubt.

The white Z in this video is where the GTM block will find its home.

That 240 looks sweet! Have you looked up SR20VET? Interesting motor. Sounds like a fun project. It was a vehicle to consider getting back in 2000 and have my dad's friend drop in the SR20, but he didn't have time to work on custom jobs.

Hopefully the 370Z will be my only project haha. The rest goes to the house.

Got one coming in soon (sr20). The s14 in video is Brad Bakers that was shipped in from Japan. I am currently waiting on suspension, bodykit, hood. Just installed new carpet and pioneer double din. It will get painted when parts arrive. s14 conversion in addition to a ton of other mods. Also currently looking for a daily driver. Maybe a stock Supra lol. :happydance:

Ah, no wonder that car looked so familiar. Sitting in that car and tapping the throttle brings back memories! You can't get that feeling nowadays. Hopefully I can get some of that good old feeling after the TT install. It's like high school all over again lol.

Thanks! You can reference my DIY thread for the LED mods :)

Jason definitely shows passion with his work and takes it seriously. I'm so excited... every once in awhile I end up dreaming about driving a boosted Z lol.

quicksilver08 08-22-2011 02:42 PM

Got to watch Jason in action a couple weeks back. Very meticulous and thorough. Last time I was there your car was in the air and the motor on the ground with the turbos bolted on. Can't wacit to pick my car up from him on Saturday :D

Nissanboy 08-22-2011 09:30 PM

Yes Jason really knows what he's doing, and is making sure it's perfect. Is the G37s yours quicksilver? Looks nice

DIGItonium 08-23-2011 08:11 AM

Do you guys know what kind of beer he likes? :p

So I'm told the car runs great, but Jason is a bit concerned about water temps being higher than usual. So far his hunch is the restriction coming from the stock cats. I used to have Berks, but it was too unbearable for daily driving. If it is the cats, I may go for the Fast Intentions HFC this time. Hopefully it's not unbearable for daily driving...

Is this an EGT issue? I'm not monitoring it. Looking back, I wish I went with the Depo 4-in-1 gauges (Analog gauge with OLED display), but I already had the regular ones in hand (too lazy to sell).

Where can you get the depo 4-in-1 gauges? I don't see them on DEPO. I wonder if they have any similar combo gauge that monitors AFR.

Here's one example (Analog Boost and OLED for Volt, Oil Pressure & Oil Temp):
Products

I ordered the gauges for boost and oil pressure from a vendor here, but the AFR gauge was 50mm. I ended up selling it and ordered a gauge for oil temp. The Ebay seller suggested the 4-in-1, but I didn't have a good layout other than to sell the ones I had and opt for the ones he had available. He wanted about $200 for each combo versus $100 for the regular stepper motor, so it was hefty at the time when I was not sure if I wanted to go for forced induction.

Should of done the camp 2 and be done with it lol :happydance:

The car is super nice on all levels! Your going to enjoy !! Not sure why water temps are so high. The turbos are water and oil cooled...... Mine are sitting pretty at the moment even in high atmospheric temps. I know Jason will figure it out

Can you post some pics of the camp 2 in action? Also, does it work while the stereo is playing, etc? I don't want to have to turn off music to watch gauges.

Thanks!

DIGItonium 08-23-2011 11:30 PM

Haha I'm old school and prefer analog gauges, and I'm not too crazy about the gauge design of the Camp 2. In fact, I'd prefer to make my own. If I can get a good data acquisition setup feeding a PC, then I can write a program to get the values and display them anyway I like (part of my job lol).

DIGItonium 08-25-2011 05:34 PM

Jason resolved the water temp issue by removing air bubbles in the system, but I started getting paranoid about EGT issues down the road. I went ahead and ordered the Fast Intentions HFCs. The OEM cats were too restrictive, so hopefully the HFCs will help lower the EGTs while improving exhaust flow.

F.I.'s recommendation was to relocate the HFC further down the pipe because of the heat from the turbos and engine. The plan was to install test pipes, and then custom mount the HFCs to the s-pipe area (after the test pipes). This is something I may do down the road.

Other than that, he says the car is doing well. He'll start on the gauges soon, but waiting for the HFCs will give him some more time to work on the car.

The Berk hfc's I have are no longer cats. The heat from the turbo ate away all the filtering part of the cat. Now its a test pipe LOL. I will be putting 3" down pipes and external waste gates.

Mr. Bakers, that's the word on the street. Boost controller messed up and boom, that's why you see the built bottom end! Don't know if this is fact that's why I asked.
