Yeah, it is possible... Just don't fabricate my original Lutz build. A friend and I redid my intake piping back in August. It was dual 3" equal length piping. MAF readings were within 0.1 of each other.

So can u save me the time of researching and refresh my memory on what happen with your car

In Septmeber (I beleive), I fixed Lutz's mistakes and redid my intake piping and did a new intercooler setup. We fixed Lutz's exhausts leaks as well. Fixed my power steering leak. The kit was finally 100%, still running on the TT base map tune that Z1 had sent me. The car was hauling :driving: I was impatient and wanted to get a baseline 1/4 mile time. In October, on my 3rd pass, I ran a 11.85 @ 119mph. I turned up the boost the next run from 12.4 to 13.1 psi and the car started ticking. Fast forward to now, I've sold my wheels, body kit, and a few misc things. I'm trying to get my motor covered under warranty due to oil consumption...my vin is February 2010, which falls under the VIN numbers that were affected by oil consumption.

Wow man so sry to hear this. I wonder if my car falls under the vins with consumption problems.

That is a good question, now that I think about it. I haven't had any issues *knock on wood*, but it would be un-awesome to have it pop up on me AFTER I am all Greddy'd up.............

So when my build was being done by Lutz, they posted a thread on bimmerforums. Recently, someone asked for updates. I've never posted my problems until now since they asked...

The Nissan contact that my Infiniti friend knows apparently got fired Monday. I've been waiting since November to take my car into the Nissan guy and was told "sometime in January"...so that was a lot of patience wasted!

I've contacted a few more people and we will see what happens. I'm willing to drive as far as Georgia to get this fixed... ;) If anyone knows anyone who's willing to help

 no problem!

I thought about it but im not quite to the point of building the engine, got a couple more things to do first. Sticking with it was a good idea, that engine could be your break :)

Isn't it funny how when you first go into a shop, you tell them you want more power with lots of reliability, and everything is always "no problem!".... But once they get the money and issues pop up, it's "oh there's no guarantees when you boost an N/A motor..."

NO SH!T!! Why can't shops just be bluntly honest from the beginning? Less short term revenue but the loyalty and honesty would generate long term success...

HKYStormFront 01-11-2012 08:25 PM

Yeah, their excuse was a custom build comes with problems... NO SH!T!!! Had Lutz been a standup shop and paid for their mistakes, they could have made more money off of me by me being a loyal customer. I guess they didn't realize my Z was basically a "driving billboard" (quoted by S&R) because of how much publicity the single turbo build got. They could have made a lot of money off of me (more than they have) and could have gotten into the VQ market, but if I ever see them posting up on any VQ boards, I will eat them alive.

Speaking of...time to update my post on bimmerforums

Oh yeah, hi Alex:hello:

Word of mouth is powerful dude.....especially when you have results to show. Don't cut'em any slack man!

A friendly text from Lutz:

Hey man you really need to stop with your ******* bitchfest on the forums, I did everything I could, more than anyone would do for your car. I'm sorry **** worked out like it did, but that's life. You were not shorted in the slightest for what you paid, I don't give a **** what anyone else charges or fixed your **** for, that ain't meI understand you think you got screwed over, and I agree in some aspects, but the crying everywhere has gotta stop. It's over, months ago, I'm sick of seeing **** pop up everywhere. I dont treat any cars or customers of mine unfairly, your not hurting us whatsoever business wise, we're busier than ever, so I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve?

My response:

If you're busier than ever, why does it matter? I never brought my issues up anywhere except for my thread on the370. Shall I go on 6speed and any other forums and post my experience? Someone asked for an update on the bimmerforums thread, so I gave them an update. I did get screwed over! I paid a lot of money for problems that were due to your (Lutz) negligence. I understand things happen with custom builds, that's why I wasn't blaming you for the overheating or the retunes I needed. That was $1000 right there I wasted. I blame you and Lutz for my $2000 repair bill, the 4 days I missed work, $200 tow bill, and hotel stay. I blame you guys for my car running like crap because you guys never did fix my intake piping like promised. I blame you guys for taking a month to let my car sit while a 30 minute wiring job was done. You guys never offered to help out after the problems started. I said YOU went above and beyond at the beginning, but once I broke down in Georgia, I wasn't even given a second look.*

From what I've see, I think that they just kept trying to do quick fixes and hoping they would work rather then thinking about what they were doing. Im going to leave it at that, I'll end up on a rant :)

Jamaica 01-12-2012 07:29 PM

You shouldnt even respond to him.

mikey1600 01-12-2012 07:30 PM

I've followed your build for a long time mate, I was very interested in the single turbo setup and still am looking to get one done... sucks really bad all this had to happen to you while all trying to do something good for the community and yourself bringing more options to the table..

hope it all works out, will continue to read on when updates arise!

VQStryker 01-12-2012 07:36 PM

The idea of the build is solid, the fabricaters and designers just got lazy and didn't want to fix it right. There is a huge chance of problems in a custom build like this but like I said, when it came time to fix problems and potential issues it didn't happen the correct way. It was like putting a zip tie on your bumper, letting it hang and think its ok to leave it that way.

elperuano 01-12-2012 08:49 PM

So sad to hear all your troubles. I read the entire thread n was cheering u on but goin on towards the end I wanted to just jump in n give ya a hand or sumthin. This has got to be one of the most unique experiences with such great highs n lows on the emotional side of it of all time.. This stuff should be turned into a novel!

Don't cut those guys any slack. They took ur money without givin much thought bout potential issues... Once paid they didn't wanna deal with u at all. Knowing its a custom build of course issues r gonna come up (would be great if they didn't but only in a perfect world). I think it's a clear case that maybe business was good for them n they were just turning out cars n ppl right out the door gettin ready for the next wallet coming thru the door. Stick it to em hard, I'm sure they'll think twice now but screwing ppl out of their hard earned money. If I were I wouldnt stop at jus writing on these forums. Word of mouth is big n spread it around, take it up with BBB. Tired of these performance shops that just try to churn out a turbo kit for a buck n screw ppl over.

Best of luck to ya 98intrigue

Kingbaby 01-13-2012 02:32 AM

I'd continue to blast them, this type of sh!t happens everyday in the car community. Cause we let it slide. It's all about money nowadays, and not the enthusiast and his love for cars...

If I was a manager at a shop and I fcuked a car project up...I'd be the first to say let's make it right!

keep pressing them cause next thing you know...another 370Z is gonna roll up to there doors with hopes/dreams/Mr. Wallet...

RCZ 01-13-2012 09:02 AM

Damn Ryan, sad to hear this. I would definitely keep blowing them up about it. I told you early on that was going to be a big problem and I'm no builder/mechanic....I think it says something that I was more worried about it than they were....

Good luck to you. Screw them.

tower74 01-13-2012 08:55 PM

Wow....took a minute but read this thread. Gotta say at first it seemed like a great idea until the..."well that's not our fault" started. The company I had install my turbo, even though they let my car sit for the 6 weeks I gave them to install the system, realized that had f*cked up and quickly jumped into action to get the system done. They went as far as tell me they would pay for a rental car for my troubles.

The "we have never been busier" sounds more like....please stop telling everybody we're a sh*tty shop...please. I'd go on every web site and spread the problems you have had, no need for anyone else to suffer your same fate.
