No clue still. The noise sounds the same as the day it started almost 2 weeks ago. I did a 140mph pull on Saturday. I did a pull to 120 Wednesday night. I did a quick 2nd gear pull today. Other than that, I've been driving it without getting into boost. It does smoke a bit when I get on it. It never smoked before the noise. :ugh2:

I'll be beating the crap out of it at the S&R Poker Run next Sunday. Fingers crossed it doesn't blow until we find out what the noise is.

STOP!!

sorry I needed to get your attention :)

Check your head gaskets . Its an oil issue like I mentioned and your not receive adequate oil or oil pressure to the heads....

Could also be your piston rings, valves, valve guide...etc

start with the easy diagnosis and go from there. you have to stay off the car from now on. is it a blue or bluish/whitish?
have you checked to see if your oil level has dropped in the 2 weeks?

Ron 10-14-2011 02:40 PM

check for traces of oil on the radiator/coolant too.

I'd rather not, but I'm afraid the noise is much worse than I had originally thought. So it's either 1/2 the price for an install of a stock motor and part the car out.... or spend twice as much for a built motor installed and continue on my FI journey. I was at this crossroad a few months back and I went forth. Why turn back now?

yeah, it's a tough decision. if you like the car, it's an easy one.

do a proper build the first time...don't half *** it.

Looking forward to the next phase of the build:tup:

Nixlimited 10-19-2011 10:30 AM

Sorry to hear about your motor. Do you know more specifically what went wrong? Also, is this the first FI motor casualty?

Ron 10-19-2011 10:40 AM

I think Ryan has a bent rod(s). No, Gambit blew his on a G (well his tuner did), Forged blew another on a G quite a while back and there's another here in Houston built by Baker Tuning that blew because the owner got too excited with the boost controller lol (from what I hear).

GambitX 10-19-2011 11:03 AM

Yup, its unfortunate but some of us had to learn the hard way with FI. Mazworxs blew my car the day I was going to pick it up. Decided to not rebuild but to just buy a brand new lower block from nissan direct. So far after taking the car to Z1 to retune the car drives 1000 percent with no issues.

I will be watching and talking to Ryan about what he is going to do on his build and maybe we can do it at the same time since I still have the blown block in my garage.

I may be the first FI 370Z casualty? Sometimes, it's not always great to be the first.

Also, there was a Stillen SC G37 that blew his after a dealer installed headers and told the owner he didn't need a retune.

You are definitely not the first FI 370Z casualty... I know of at least one 370 that popped over a year ago... Funny how a lot of those that have popped don't make it onto the forums...

I wish they did come on the forums so we could learn more about it... that's the only way we will know the limits and weakspots of this motor.

jnaut 10-19-2011 06:46 PM

Ryan , who is doing the motor work? Send me your details about your build in a PM as I dont wanna see nothing but the best from your car.

You would be surprised to know how ofter my local dealer calls me for info on the vq37 and the 370 in general, hahaha

Nothing that a plunger can't take out. lol. You going to get a new stock one or try to replace it with a aftermarket.

djpathfinder 11-12-2011 11:37 AM

Any damage to turbo piping?

I popped the hood and it looks like the bumper is .5" away from the intercooler, so hopefully not. Then I tried to shut the hood and it didn't want to shut...so the radiator support may have to be replaced.

Being that there are very few aftermarket bumper available and none that really wow me...stock.

I actually think this is a pretty clear sign it's time to part the car out. Too much bad **** has happened with this car.
