The setup they were using for the chute caused lift on the rear of the car and under light braking the car remained stable. However, when the chute deployed he added more brake pressure which transferred the vehicle weight forward to the front wheels and the rear began to lift and go sideways. Once the driver felt that... he lifted off the brakes causing the car to increase its forward motion in the new direction... where the car would have just spun if he stayed on the brakes... he now faces the chance of flipping because his ohhhh sh*t factor kicked in and his survival reaction told him to lift and he did.... The driver is not a professional racer and has very limited seat time at this speed. I remember their first videos... they built the car and he just jumped in it trying to go for the record... in my opinion it is something that must be worked up to not achieved over night.
