You can get a great deal on a '07 Z06 and put a few mods on it and smoke both cars at the track and have money to spare. Ask me how I know

how is this even a question...get the GT3!!!

Even if your power-weight ratio was the same, you are not going to keep up with a GT3. And who cares if it can anyways...the Porsche is a nicer car all around.

My little dream vacation right now is a two week roadtrip to Stillen or GTM, drop the car off, enjoy the area for a while, and then pick it up in its transformed state

. Reality might just be shipping it there though.

For all around ease, the R8 V10 would be my #1 choice. It would be a fun daily driver as well, looks incredible (just saw one today and OMG), and is still a track beast. My concern is that I'd be devastated wrecking an R8 or GT3 on a track. The Z would be a bummer but not as life ending. I agree with you guys that spanking some big name cars with the Z would be very gratifying. Also, I love the idea of knowing my car the way it is now, and then experiencing it in the SC/TT version.

That's funny that you mentioned that, we actually are about to get another customer from Florida bring his car out here to us and stay for about a 3 week vacation here is sunny San Diego while we install his complete new race built motor, twin turbo kit, brakes, and suspension.

Having customers cars shipped here to us for full builds and track prepping is something we do all the time. A majority of our customers are from out of state. We have customers from as far away as Canada, Tennessee, Florida, New York, etc that have shipped us their cars to have various work done, including quite a few complete track/ race car transformations. We have built more track dominating beastly Z's than anybody else in the country, including the winning-est time attack 350Z and also the nations fastest and winning-est track prepped time attack G35. These cars make very light work of both the R8 and the GT3 that you speak of, LOL

Although I can see the pro's and con's to both.... transforming your Z into a more track worthy car, or just buying a more out of the box capable car. It is a tough choice and all comes down to what YOU wanna do....

Congrats on finishing residency! I feel where you're at. I'm excited just to finish intern year. Anyways, if you feel having a nice car is gonna make you happy, then get one of those. Otherwise, from a financial standpoint, holding onto the z and modding as allowed by finances while paying off loans, or whatsoever is probably the better way to go.

P.S.
If i were you and I was gonna go into more debt for a car, screw it, go all out and go ferrari f430 or porsche gt2. Go big or go home right

Hey Spearfish and Tius: What are you guys doing your residencies in? I'm a radiologist, finished my training in 2006. When I first finished residency I bought a 2006 Corvette with the z51 suspension. Great performance for the price. In 2009 when it had 55,000 miles on it, it was showing it's age and was time for a new car. I was considering a used Gallardo, used 911 turbo or ZR1 in the low 100k range. I did the math though and it adds up like this: $2,000 a month payment + high insurance with roughly $1,500 a month going to interest payment. Then you get almost $1,000 a month in depreciation. Your total cost of ownership is between $2,500 and $3,000 a month once you go to resell your car. It's also expected that you drive cars like that for 3,000 miles a year to keep the depreciation and insurance down. Being fresh out of residency, I had lots of items on my wish list, like a house, new furniture, electronics, travel, dates with future trophy wife, etc. Then you get used to spending $1,500 on bottle service in vegas and trips to Honolulu on less than 7 days notice. The money goes fast.
After long deliberation, I got a 370z because it made sense: not too expensive, not many other people have them, looks great, handles great, nice interior. After suspension, tires and bolt on induction upgrades the 370z is a fantastic and fun car. It just needs a little more power. I knew when I bought it that forced induction would be coming. We are so close to forced induction now that it is the perfect time to own a 370z!
So the trade off is: do you want to live in a shack and have a GT3 in the garage, or live in a pimp house on the golf course and drive a turbo 370z?

Urology. Would the car (R8/GT3) be a huge monthly expense? Definitely...without a hefty down payment. That's certainly a factor in the decision process. Also, I have my wife to contend with. She thinks an Altima is a perfectly good way to get around. I suppose another option I left out is a nice in-between too: Build a Caterham! I'm kinda liking that one more and more actually.

come on man..if there was a bowl of keys with a gt3 fob on one of them, you know thats the one you would grab. every day of the week over a z car. i dont care if you had rocket assisted accel on the 370z. it will never be gt3 level

R8 is pretty awesome! My dad just bought one couple months ago in February and has been in love!! Driven it myself and it is pretty beastly but yet luxurious at the sametime. Tough choice but i saw R8
