k, thanks... i'm new to the FI thing so not familiar with how much work is involved etc... will keep an eye on this thread

shabarivas 06-11-2009 05:57 PM

Seriously guys... i cant wait for you to develop something that will net me close to 350+ whp w/ a carb number and a worry free warranty :p

travisjb 06-11-2009 06:58 PM

we can get close to 350whp without fi

ZforMe 06-11-2009 07:07 PM

I'm hoping for 400+ to the wheels with hfc's, exhaust, & supercharger kit.

Yes, that would be a good number. I wouldn't spend around $5K for anything less then a net of 80-100whp. When you think about it, that's $1K for every 20HP gained.

Phimosis 06-16-2009 08:19 PM

When will we get our day?

The VQ37VHR has been around as long as the LS3.

Any guesses out there as to when we will have a roots style supercharger? Or any good supercharger for that matter. I hate waiting...

Junior370z 06-17-2009 12:17 AM

I'm headed up to Stillen tomorrow morning. I'm going to ask how they are progressing with the S/C kit. I hope they come out with this kit soon. I'll put myself on the waiting list if they have one LOL!

Of course that small block has been around since the 50s sooo . . .

I don't think there is a single part that is interchangeable between the LS3 and the cast iron 4.3L OHV V8 that came out in '55, making 180 (gross) hp.

The Gen III Chevy V8 engines came out in 1997. The only thing that is the same between Gen I and Gen III engines is the bore spacing, which Chevy did only for historical reasons. The water jackets and head bolt spacing are different, so the heads are not interchangeable.

If you want to compare apples to apples, the Nissan VQ engines came out in 1994, making them 3 years older than the Chevy Gen III engines.

The most recent iteration, the Chevy LS3 came out in 2008, the same year as the VQ37 arrived.

Within 2 months of the Camaro being released by a bankrupt company that was obviously unstable for more than a year, the aftermarket swoons in with a kit that lays down 560 horespower to the wheels.

Where is the aftermarket support for the Z? It's technologically a superior sportscar that will have great sales worldwide. The Camaro on the other hand is a (low end) niche car that will only sell well in North America. You would think that aftermarket companies would be scrambling to get the VQ37 into top form. It's not like no one knew in 2007 when the VQ37 was announced that is would make its way to the Z car.

Some of us are here.. :p

Crash 06-18-2009 01:24 AM

LOL! The thing is that the LSx motor represent a huge achievement. One of the reasons people love them so much is for their versatility. The VQ37 is far superior technology-wise to the LS3, but the reason the aftermarket swarms to the LSx motors is because they're not only easier to make power on with virtually any mod, but they're extremely easy to tune. LSx motors are far less complex and are very easy to pull apart to work on. With the VQ37, tuners aren't even sure about how to tune the VVEL yet. LS motors finally get variable timing, but a simple VT lockout turns that off and you're back to the simplicity of the LSx. Also, remember that the LSx motors are single cam push rod motors, making cam changes a lot easier too.

LiquidZ 06-18-2009 11:45 AM

I'm hoping Stillen's S/C is not a roots type blower, but rather a centri.

john370z 06-18-2009 05:09 PM

I vote for a "roots" type! More torque is more useful on the street. T

LiquidZ 06-19-2009 11:42 AM

If its going to be a roots type blower, hopefully the rotors are Eaton's TVS design.

john370z 06-19-2009 12:24 PM

I agree. There are many newer "Roots" style blowers that have made leaps in efficiency. Look at the new ZR1 vette blower. And others like it...

Yeah, I agree. Twin screws are still the top dog but I doubt Stillen will use them.

Crash 06-19-2009 01:07 PM

Mammoth blower FTW! Uses the least amount of engine power... It saved the crappy 4.6 modular motor 80HP alone on top of the power it added! Imagine what it could do for the VQ37!

But for bragging rights, a dual centrifugal kit would be sweet too.

Phimosis 06-19-2009 10:58 PM

I want a roots type blower so I can get massive torque from 2,000-5,000 rpm. I don't care if the efficiency and power fall at from 5,000 rpm to redline compared to a centrifugal blower because we rarely need to spin this torque monster that fast.

I have the money in hand as well for a supercharger. I pretty much echo everyone else here when I say that Turbo's are nice for what they do, but I would like a supercharger.

john370z 06-30-2009 10:32 PM

Anyone have an idea as to when a quality supercharger kit will be available for the 370? I just want to know if I will be looking at later this summer, 2010, late 2010 or even later? No since in earmarking the money if it'll be that long. Thoughts???
john

Brazilbro 06-30-2009 11:33 PM

probably a few months after greddy releases their turbo kit

I'd want to put one of those on an LSx Corvette or 03-04 Cobra. :) Good times.

Phimosis 07-09-2009 02:44 AM

Ok Josh, I've got my body and suspension mods done now. Can I send my car down to get my supercharger installed now?

Thanks,

-Phim

Josh@STILLEN 07-09-2009 11:09 AM

I wish! But I'm sure you'd want it all tested and perfected first.. :)

To be honest... No, not really. I'll
be the guinea pig. If it blows up I'll get forged internals, a lower compression ratio and we can do it again!

Josh@STILLEN 07-10-2009 03:20 PM

lol.. too funny.

We have several vehicles in house, and progress is happening. :)

shumby 07-10-2009 05:24 PM

will you be doing the same setup for the G37?

Josh@STILLEN 07-10-2009 05:25 PM

G37 version as well, yes.

shabarivas 07-10-2009 06:58 PM

Do the 370 one first please... Gs already have hella crap out for them... :p

NewYorkJon34 07-10-2009 10:14 PM

Will we be able to pay monthly for the s/c or do we have to pay for it all up front?
